Sequel Game and Anime 'Steins;Gate 0' Announced [Update 3/29]

A new visual novel titled Steins;Gate 0 and an anime adaptation of it were announced today. The news came in addition to the ChäoS;Child anime announcement during 5pb's live stream today, held by representative Chiyomaru Shikura.

This game will be a sequel to the visual novel Steins;Gate and will also incorporate content from the Epigraph Trilogy of light novels/manga (Heiji Kyokusen no Epigraph, Eigou Kaiki no Pandora, and Mugen Enten no Arutaeru) and the drama CDs.

This latest installment of the series will be the first to have a numbering title.

Steins;Gate was previously adapted into a TV anime series in 2011 and a movie in 2013.

welp, time to rewatch the original series + that crappy movie and see if this is good news or not. really liked the original - not a masterpiece the way many see it, but still a really good story with great characters and flow.

It was really popular so it only makes sense when there is a sequel anytime.

I literally just finished the anime ova and movie today, now a sequels coming out? Perfect! Didn't it say Kurisu was still trapped in another timeline? Like a scenario where she was never saved by Okabe?

So let me get this straight, this new steins; gate, its going to be about that beta timeline which was mentioned but not really touched in the first anime right?

So the issue now is because its being called a "sequel" thats where the problem is to this mixed opinions of it being shit and hyped?

Steins;Gate is one of the best sci-fi stories ever so it deserves getting this sequel. still waiting for suzumiya haruhi sequel though

Yeah either way I'm happy, if this goes well then we can see more of stein gate in the future which I think will be a good thing really, even if its terrible we will still have the original anyway. Plus even if they mess it up a little with the cannon they can just do a different time line better with the undoubted flood of hate that will force them to from japan alone.

People shouldn't really misunderstand. It's canon, though indirectly and barely mentioned, because it's basically Okabe's first fuck up in attempt to save Kurisu. It's basically his journey until the point in which he creates the mail he sents to his past self. I don't understand why it's considered a "sequel", since it derives from the main story. But it does affect the main plot though, because if S;G 0 fucks up the existing laws of time travel like the movie did, then yea the overall story of S;G degrades.

Nevertheless, HYPE!!!!!!

We'll get to see the dystopia that SERN creates, it's something extremely important that has hardly been touched upon yet.

That was the alpha wordline, though. This is the beta worldline where WW3 happens.

Not necessarily. The Steins Gate is a beta line.

It's stated in the VN that the Steins;Gate line is not part of any attractor field.

It's also stated that Steins;Gate Zero will take elements from the Beta worldline drama CDs as well as the Epigraph trilogy, which suggests that it's about Okabe after he fails to save Kurisu.
