Hmm.. I don't see it yet! Well, I'll look out that.

I personally have to say that I hope none of these movies win, because none of them could ever compete with any of the less "commercial" titles we have such as things that haven't been licensed. And I mean WTF...Alvin and the Chipmunks? They ruined the hell out of that.

It was released in 2006, so not possible for 07 oscars. Also was never shown in the US theatres anywhere which is a requirement to even be elligible for nomination.

Tekkon is also 2006. But it probably premiered in the US it was this year. Probably only Gedo Senki premiered in the US this year also. Don't know about Paprika that is also a lot better than 80% of the nominations.

If Tekkon is there. Where's Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo? Anime Oscar noobs! Not that it mathers, probably some crappy digital movie is going to win anyway.

So I'm guessing I SHOULD see this then. The art that I've seen of Tekkon didn't fit my style, but I'll rent it.

Although I haven't seen a few of the movies on the list....namely the more recent releases....I would have to hope that either "Tekkon Kinkreet" wins or "Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theaters"....mostly because I am a fan of the show....but in reality it will be neither. *Sigh* oh well....I can hope....(^^)

Ive seen all/most of those movies and i dont think their worthy of a oscar :P They were funny and nearly made me wet my pants but not good enough to win a oscar, inless its in comedy, of corse it is for animation, wait nevermind again they werent that well animated :P

Oh well~ Aslong as its not a CGI movie~

Meh, of the movies on that list that I've seen, most were pretty shitty (Ratatouille is the exception IMO), especially in what most people would think what "Oscar-quality" would be, which I could say most of those aren't from my perspective, unless they look at a purely superficial level and rate the movie's quality from the animation alone, which makes sense considering the category, unfortunately.

It would've been pretty nice to see Tokikake up there though, I think it was the best animated movie (Japanese or otherwise) I've seen this year, but I wondered if since it still hadn't been licensed in America (IIRC) if it'd get a bid or not. Shame.

I don't know about the movie, but the Tekkon Kinkreet manga was fantastic.

I haven't seen Tekkon. Bee Movie, Beowulf, Meet the Robinsons, or Ratatouille might win.

Personally none of those movies might win, they're not great. Spirited Away was beauitifully made, with an amazing story line, that's why it earns the Oscar. So Tekkon could be pretty good. I think Pale Cacoon should be Oscar worthy, if it ever gets licensed. Any Ghibli movie should be in the running.

The animated film oscar started in 2001, and was won by Shrek. Spirited Away is the first anime to be nominated for an oscar, and it won. Heres a snippet of how the list of animated films are selected.

The award is only given if there are at least eight animated feature films (with a theatrical release in Los Angeles). For the purposes of the award, only films over 70 minutes long are considered to be "feature films". If there are 16 or more films submitted for the category, the winner will be voted from a shortlist of five films, otherwise there will only be three films on the shortlist[1].

People in the animation industry and fans expressed hope that the prestige from this award and the resulting boost to the box office would encourage the increased production of animated features. Some members and fans however criticize the award, saying it is only intended to prevent animated films from having a chance of winning Best Picture. Such critics often point out that the award was introduced when the hugely successful Shrek came to theaters, suggesting that it might have won Best Picture otherwise. Official Academy Award regulations state that any movie nominated for this category can still be nominated for Best Picture.[2] Nevertheless, psychological effects may prevent nominations or serve to suppress protests of an animated film's lack of a Best Picture nomination

So only Tekkon & Spirited Away, out of all the anime movies ever been submitted to the Oscars? Anyone know of any others that didn't make it and if not, why not send a movie that won't make people thing Japanese Cartoons are only for kids like Jin-Roh, Perfect Blue or Ghost in a Shell?

there really weren't many. the animated film award started with Spirted Away. Since then only like 5 or 6 years have passed.

HINT: award ceremonies run by the people who end up receiving the awards are not worth paying any attention to.

Bee Movie is going to win. I bet $15. I would rather lick my bathroom floor than go watch it, but apparently it's absolutely amazing or some shit.
