Whats next, Kuroko no Basket is mainly a male crowd buying it?

Certain shows obviously aim more at one gender or the other, and Magi is one of those shows that women buy far more then men.
You need to produce your evidence. The thing is, for most shounen manga, we know that it is mainly male demography who is buying it except for a few exceptions, and we know Kuroko no Basuke is one of the exceptions. There was one market research survey done in mid-2012 that investigated the gender composition buying various Shonen Jump manga, and Kuroko is the manga with the 4th highest proportion of female buyers (58.9%). So even Kuroko we have female making up around 50% more than male buyers -- whether it fits your definition of "buy far more" I am not sure, but if you are telling me that for Magi women "buy far more than" men, I would like to see some evidence of it and see how it compares to Kuroko.

@jmal Very much so. Besides, I would even argue that even if we look only at "female anime fans" in general, it is not certain if the majority of the potential buyers of Magi are female. Outside of shoujo anime and BL/guy-harem anime most anime still have the majority of fans being male. So if there are fans who abandoned Magi, they are perhaps more males than females there. Thus even saying Magi not selling well because the female fans are abandoning can also cause misunderstanding, and thus unnecessary arguments.

Clearly Darkness is doing far better than Motto, even though Motto itself was already deemed quite successful as a sequel.

I am glad to see that. To Love-Ru Darkness is one of my favorite shows. I am glad to see the franchise is gaining momentum.

I feel a lot better about season 4 now and I felt pretty good about the prospect before.

Before another shitstorm comes up regarding the target consumers of Magi, let me stress that fujoshi is unlikely to form more than a minority of the potential buyers of the BD/DVD of Magi.

"Fujoshi" very strictly defined, probably. Female otaku in general, not all that unlikely. Would be good if people who just mean "female anime fans" would say the latter instead. I more or less stopped using the word fujoshi a while ago because it's not worth the hassle of figuring out how each person who reads it will interpret it.

Wow, just looked back a few pages... I should've did some back reading on this thread. I meant female fans in the context of Magi. Sorry to anyone who may read this thread and get offended with my use of 'fujoshi'.

Went to Akiba today to buy some stuffs. Saw some Magi volume 3 discounted at 50% at some stores... Two fat guys are chuckling while taking some photos of the stash because it was in on a big black basket at the front of the store. Store girl inside also trying not to laugh at the scene. Funny and sad from some reason.

I expect to see photos of Magi on "wagon sales heap" coming up soon in some of the Japanese anime or 2ch sites. It sure starts big discount really early, doesn't it?

@jmal

I also don't think Chihayafuru2 will make it to top4 but the poor performance this season combined with the cheaper price of the BD Box makes it an intriguing possibility. BD Box also has the advantage that it does not suffer from downward trend of sales when a new volume comes out. It would be really ironic to see the sequel make it to top4 while its first season was deemed a failure as far as sales is concerned (of course it was successful in other aspects which is why it got a 2nd season).

Mar 9, 2013 11:27 AM by symbv

Top four of 2012 Fall season:

Most likely we won't see Magi. If we count Gintama, I'd say it will get in. If we don't count it, then I'd agree with jmal that ToLoveRu Darkness has the edge. Besides the reason already stated by jmal, the fact that it is a 1-cour series (vs 2-cour for Little Busters or Magi) also gives it some advantage.

And the other three are shoo-in: Girls und Panzer, Chuunibyou and JoJo

=================

Top Four of the 2013 Winter season:

Chihayafuru2 BD Box is now solicited and is keeping a top spot above all the other titles this season. Its cheaper price definitely is a factor here. So are we going to see it become one of the top for of the season?

I think so far 3 titles seem to be quite likely to make it into top 4 (even though their rankings in recent 2 weeks have dropped): LoveLive, ViviPan and Haganai next.

Wow Sword Art Online, as usual, crushes the others. Damn I feel sorry for magi, it's one of my favorite mangas. I guess i will be expecting a second season of Sword Art Online in the near future. Those sales are immense! :)
