First of all, I'd like to say I'm not familiar with any of Kakizaki's other works (mostly referring to Rainbow since that's his most famous one), so I'm not going to be making any comparisons to anything else he's worked on. With that out of the way....

Hideout is a very short series. I don't imagine that it would take more than an hour or two to read it all, and that might be a very generous estimate depending on how fast you read. Since it's only 9 chapters you might not be expecting a whole lot as far as depth of the plot goes, but ...

“How long was I locked up in that room? A day? A week? I could no longer tell. On top of driving you crazy, the darkness and isolation also robbed you of all your sense of time.”

Kirishima Seiichi’s life has so far been full of ups and downs— recurring letdowns in his career as a writer, the tragic death of his son and to top it all, the cold and distant attitude of his wife. With the alleged intention of overcoming the loss of their son and starting over a new life, Kirishima takes his wife on a peaceful island vacation. However, behind ...

This reads like the "cliche" horrors and thrillers of the 2000's, and I LOVE IT. In the afterword Kakizaki expresses his passion for the horror genre and the process and conditions of this oneshot's creation. The manga has been critiqued as mediocre and predictable, however I feel these are unfair inclinations. The Hollywood slasher formula works perfectly for the genre of horror and aesthetic portrayed in this, not to mention the art and paneling draws out a sense of genuine unease.

Doubling down on that, I do think that this manga is carried by its amazing artwork. The dark, bold, shading of these panels and ...

Here's my take after reading 9 tense chapters of Hideout by Masasumi Kakizaki.

I am a long-time fan of the 80's American horror and how they have used practical effects to show the blood and gore that are depicted in their story which adds that "realism" factor in their movies and TV.

Hideout takes a lot of influence on American horror as the mangaka Kakizaki-san is a huge fan of it and fascinated by authors like Stephen King and it shows how strong the influence in this work is.

The premise of the story is that married couple Seiichii, a striving novelist, and his wife Miki Kirishima ...

One word: "magnificent." This story is absolutely scary ... just thinking about being the protagonist makes me nervous. Excellent drawing, a plot full of misery, discord, blood, regrets and above all: the fucking human being. I think the worst of this story is the man himself. It shows us how evil and monstrous we can be and in just 9 chapters he left me thinking. Another thing that the author does very well is to fully penetrate the hardships of the poor protagonist, causing us to feel compassion and even wishing he could achieve his goal. The ending is great and ...

Guys literally, this is such a decent 9 chapter horror manga that I've ever come across!

The story goes about a couple who's marriage is pretty much "on the rocks" and can I just say here, the wife is a major assh*le in this like she treats her husband so bad. The poor guy was a struggling writer and like, he was guilty of their sons death. Yet she on the other hand, seemed to care less about the sons death and is pretty much a selfish character that I absolutely loathe to put as one of my most hated characters list lol.

Anyway he turns ...

As a huge fan of the horror genre and horror manga, I can confidently say that this is a worthwhile read as long as you're not expecting to be blown away. Here some things you need to consider:

Simply put, the story is mediocre at best. You will see the the plot developing in a very predictable and cliched manner. It spans only a few chapters covering one volume. The length of this manga can be a good or a bad thing based on the reader, so I will leave this up to you.

That being said, the atmosphere is quite well done, the whole manga feels dark and twisted ...

It's been a long time since I've properly sat and read, well, anything. I fell into a bad rut last year halfway through and was barely able to get back into reading comics. Hunting through google images for some horror aesthetic pictures, I stumbled across some lists of the top rated horror mangas. Hideout was on many of these lists and so, I decided to kick 2019 off with a bang and return to one of my favourite genres and formats.

And I am so glad I did.

This story is more than just a murderous man on a rampage, desperate to end his wife's life. This ...

review First of all I wish you all very well and I am happy that you have reached my review, I want to clarify that it is the first manga by this author that I read, I had not read any of his works before and I hope in the future to be able to acquire more of these .

Starting with the review that I do not want to be extremely long, it is quite easy to summarize, the work is quite bland, you could say that the further the story progresses, the more you ...

Nonstop thrilling moments; this manga is contained of it. No doubt story is short but the anticipation for the flow of the story was on top. Each moment of the page has sensation of excitement fill into it. Considering the art style of the narration, mangaka put great effort into it with the finest drawings for his nine chapter based work. As the story is focused around single character, it didn't fail to surprise with character development or degradement however the plot is being told. Seichii's regret and action are truly justified as the plot made his surrounding unacceptable for him. One way or other ...

This right here, is the most underappreciated horror manga of all time in my opinion. First of all, the way it highlights the terrifying traits of it's characters is phenomenal and unique to any other Horror Manga I have read. The artstyle is very well drawn. People may call the story cliche but I guess it was alright. Dialogues and concepts were pretty good. It is a brilliant psycholgical manga. I think it has minor flaws but because of some nostalagia and it having some vibes which I like it is 10/10. Would not reccomend to everyone tho.
