It's by the same mangaka. In anime, the male main characters of the two works were done by the same voice actor. Except for those two memorable yet redundant points, there is also a similarity that worth talks about, which is these male main characters overcome with their problems/missions and grow along the story.

Main characters know martial arts? Check. A tomboyish girl and general gender confusion? Check.

Both about a teenage boy who transforms into a teenage girl. Both about some sort of martial art... kinda. (Ranma is martial arts, Futaba is wrestling). Both funny.

Similar sense of humor and ridiculous situations found in each. While the stories vary greatly, the tone of each are harmonious.

They have a diverse cast of characters, both have very comedic moments, and (for the most part) fight pretty similarly as the characters use some sort of martial arts.

Both are Gender Benders. Although in Ranma the changes can happen multiple times and in Pretty Face it is only once, it still involves the comedy of a man stuck in a woman's body.

These series have a similar chaotic energy and fun cast.

They are both very comedic stories...where the main characters have to deal with many silly shenanigans. Dealing with people who may or may not have some grudge against them....ensuing into a very comedic situation. And also at the beginning of the stories they show up with their own father at a "friend's" house after a bit of traveling and training...and begin living there. The main characters Yaiba and Ranma are both a bit immature at times, but I'm sure as you keep reading they'll start to grow on you.

For if you want a bit of mystery in your series. The romances and humor feels pretty similar to Ranma with the same will they or won't they feel. Hattori and Shinichi have a friendly rivalry that reminds me a lot of Ranma and Ryoga.

The plot is a bit different and the characters are too, but when Ranma (Ranma 1/2) comes in contact with water he becomes a girl, and when it is raining, the five main male characters (Ame Nochi Hare) also become female.

Both tell the story of a more or less teenage male main character with a girl to their side they (have to) live together with. There are factions that want them to separate, on the other hand some people do everything they can to bring them closer together. Both mangas don't really follow a greater storyline, rather they are seperated into several short storys per manga. Though the main characters have totally different personalities, and the settings are also not really comparable, the way of telling the stories, and the stories themselves are quite similar. So if you liked Ranma, or Aa! Megami-sama! just because of the  read more

Both are old school manga about a cursed boy who transforms into something when he gets wet. For Ranma, he turns into a girl and turns back with hot water and with Kero kero chime, Aoi turns into a frog and turns back after he’s completely dry

from the same author, so have the same style of art (more improved in Rinne), humor and have similar style in the narrative too. Both of them use short stories (normally with 2 or 3 chapters ) with few or none changes in the main plot.... who like Rinne's light style of the story, certainly will enjoy Ranma

The manga have a similar vibe, and I don't know if it's only me. Both of them have a similar beginning: a high school boy who learns martial arts and continues to learn throughout the manga to fight increasingly stronger opponents. In Ranma 1/2, the protagonist, Ranma Saotome, is cursed to transform into a girl when splashed with cold water and returns to being a boy with hot water. This adds a unique twist to his martial arts training and daily life. On the other hand, in Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple, the protagonist, Kenichi Shirahama, starts as a weak and timid high school student who gains  read more

Maison Ikkoku is by the same author, Rumiko Takahashi. Maison Ikkoku is more Romance than it is Comedy whereas Ranma is more Comedy than it is Romance. To fill the void left by Ranma when I finished it I started Maison Ikkoku. I was hooked pretty much instantly, finishing the entire manga in three days. Although I haven't watched a lot of anime or read a lot of manga, Maison Ikkoku is definitely my favorite.

Both stories feature an arranged-marriage situation of one young man to three sisters. Ranma is promised to one of three sisters who are to inherit the Anything-Goes Martial Arts dojo. Amagami-san Chi no Enmusubi is the same setting, but with three shrine maidens.

A much more ecchi approach to the gender bender concept of Ranma 1/2. If you like anime where a character becomes female, much to their dismay, then you will enjoy Boku Girl. The anime's main strength is its concept and it has fun with it.

A comedy/action shounen with a similar idea of a boy turning to a girl for x reasons. The atmosphere and the characters make the series really enjoyable and it gives the same good feeling as Ranma does with the same touch of martial art (less developped because the series is too short).

Gintama and Ranma are similar in their submission of humor. They clean the borders of the comedy and perfectly present every joke at the right time. The cultural and classical atmosphere is mixed with an absurd comedy, the effect is magnificent.

Both are romantic comedies with tons of tomboys and brute girls. Both begin with a pair of characters forced to date but other girls appear in the middle of the relationship. There are a girl who first hate him and later turned into love, a lost fiancee, a shy girl... Ranma have more variety, there are more male characters and not all the girls have a crush with the same boy neither all the boys with the same girl like in Nisekoi. Ranma also adds martial arts.

Both works are similar in that the main plot line is about an impoverished MC guy being engaged to marry against his will to one of three sisters in order to solve a succession crisis of a traditional Japanese institution - a Shinto shrine in one case, and a martial arts dojo in the other. The succession crisis is caused due to the owning family having only daughters and in need of a son-in-law.

both main charaters turn into a the oppisite gender (ranma turns into a girl and sumi turns into a guy) the characters around them turn into something else only a few people around them turn know about this there are love triangle and both are ultimetly FUNNY

They have the same feel to them, serious moments mixed in with comedy. Its a little hard to explain, but if you read both, its becomes obvious.

Hilarious, perverted gag series that will make you crack up. Ranma 1/2 focuses on an ensemble cast that revolves around the arranged engagement of Ranma (a boy who turns into a girl when doused with cold water) and Akane, and has tons of martial arts. B Gata H Kei focuses on the high schooler Yamada as she struggles with trying and failing to seduce a normal, plain, average classmate into being her first lay (and eventually becoming her boyfriend).
reportRecommended by Numi
Both have feisty females that kick butt and take no crap from guys. I recommend this for girls who are tired of being put down because of our gender, and guys who have to deal with it all.
reportRecommended by vanished77
Both are funny love-comedies

Shounen, comedy, romance and ecchi. although Rival has only started to be translated, from the looks of the RAW's they look very promising. and no gender bender (although not such a big issue for me in Ranma1/2)

Besides both being long shounen romantic comedy series, each of these manga was quite popular in its time and still carries the impact it had then until today. These classic love triangles and more are filled with both comedic misunderstandings and sweet moments, oftentimes in the format of quick, one-chapter stories.
reportRecommended by Anomalous
Many shared tropes, particularly the involuntary tendency of the male protagonist to become the love interest of many girls and his shyness, some stereotypical characters, but also the supernatural adventures and the strange competitions and situations inside the school. However, Ranma 1/2 lacks the high level of ecchi fanservice that To LOVE-Ru has and the male protagonist is not as skilled as Ranma.
reportRecommended by Connacht
Both have a lot of hand to hand fighting in it, and though both use weapons, only Tokyo Crazy Paradise has guns in it. Both are long reads, and Ranma 1/2 is more humor/comedy with the main character getting beat up. Also, Ranma 1/2 has more of a cartoonish art style, while Tokyo Crazy Paradise has a more shoujo art style to it. Also, Tokyo Crazy Paradise has mafia, and a bit of mecha and blood in it, while Ranma 1/2 has magic. Another thing is that while Tokyo Crazy Paradise has a solidified ending with the two main characters knowing the other's feelings, and  read more

Spontaneous, occasionally random slapstick comedy mixed in with a cast of similar characters make both these manga slightly flawed yet greatly enjoyable manga.

Both Manga has a male character that turn into a female Both have action and rom-com scenarios

Both mangas have a character that turns into an animal. The protagonist lives with the love interest. Both series are episodic. They have the same comedy style. They give off the same vibe as well. If you like one, you will definitely like the other.

Ranma is nuff said but I find that there are very few manga that come close to being similar to it. This is one of them. Note that unlike many of Ranma's recommended section, I'm not comparing Orange Delivery to the genre of gender bending nor am I solely focusing on the love comedy bit though OD is a sports comedy manga. What makes these two similar is based on my overall enjoyment on the characterization of both manga and the quirkiness behind both of them. You're not going to find a concrete similarity to the two but as far as fast paced comedy mixed with weird  read more

I think the relationship between the two main characters (Ranma and Akane - Shiro and Masumi) are really similar, especially when the story of Ryuuroden still takes place in a school settingl. Later they begin to differ more and more, but both still reminded me of one another.

Both Include multiple Fiances and many love trianlges
reportRecommended by 13inuyashagurl13
Both contain one boy with multiple women pursuing him. Just as Ranma is afraid of cats, Chiryuu is horrified of one thing - women. Both men struggle to figure out their feelings for the women in their life while dealing with annoying classmates and jealous suitors. However, Girls Saurus is a little more graphic - almost too much so - so, not for the faint of heart.
