Synopsis

Nekokado is an extremely straight-laced high school teacher who has lived alone since the death of his sister. But one day, he discovers a photo of her in a maid costume. He goes to a concept café in order to investigate his sister's secret, but there he meets a girl named Tsuruko...?!

Japan loves making age gap mangas, and for the most part, they’ve been good, probably due to the fear of creating an absolute illegal monstrosity of a manga that no incompetent writer wants to undertake the task. That thought aside, in typical age gap romcom fashion, there are well-written characters stern in their mindset while also having a somewhat basic plot line with a few tweaks here and there.

Mixed Feelings
Gave this manga a chance because I was interested in how it might approach the concept of grief. It ended up being a cute and enjoyable read but I marked it as mixed feelings because I think the way the manga handles the material at times might turn some people off. Overall, despite the ups and downs, I thought it was a good exploration of growing and changing for both the teacher and the student. I'm glad that things didn't take any weird, sexy turns either, or I'd have dropped this like a hot potato. The ending resolved things well and I felt satisfied with ...

Mixed Feelings

Despite the ethical concerns that comes with student-teacher relationships (that are strangely normalised and highly employed in Japanese media) I quite enjoyed this manga's premise: the central mystery of what the main character's sister was doing in the concept maid cafe store and whether she was 'happy' despite sacrificing much of her youth for her younger brother's education. I especially think the interactions between the two main leads and their misunderstandings are quite fun to read and quite funny as well. I also really like the main character and his more melancholic backstory and how it ties in with the premise.
