Kougeru said: It was honestly 9/10 until the final episode. The finale was really lackluster and nonsensical. Almost felt like a cop-out, really. Basically felt like they didn't know how to end it so they just made everyone friends by magic. I wouldn't mind going back in time and actually working to change things for the better but instead it was just.. memories of Takopi. Is that how it was the manga or was this because of the 6 episode limit? Either way, overall it was great. They did amazing for just 6 episodes. Visually and auditorily it was 10/10 too. yes, the manga is just 2 vol so it's not long. |

Sasuke149 said: some notes: first of all wasn’t the camera the murder weapon?? how the well did azuma give it back to takopii? second, i see teenage marina still has a scar at the end, so everything is still sh*t, except the girls have each other. three, azuma not being a part of the two girls’ life in the future is interesting. a curious choice by the author. I think it is hinted that Azuma is now avoiding Shizuka. maybe something inside him is telling him that this girl is no good.. and being with her would bring him a lot of misfortune. and from anime it looks he wasn't especially friendly with Marina, too (except Takopi in Marina's form). so, I see no reason why would he now be part of the group, moreover he could be in different highschool as those two. |

I was wondering how they were going to wrap everything up after all that has happened in one last episode, and this was.. the last thing I expected. It is a really good ending, I just really wish they had more time to develop their relationships and HOW they managed to get along, instead of just vaguely hinting at how they bonded over the "memories" of having Takopi in their care. Making Shizuka and Marina get along was the goal from the beginning, and it just gets solved off-screen. It's a bit of a disappointing ending, but still a satisfying conclusion nonetheless, as well as a beautiful message. |

Ok.. so we get some deus ex machina "happy ending" where their lifes are still shit, but they survive by supporting each other. Amd they achieve it by takopi planting some memorys into their minds. How did he even do that? Just because? Sorry, but this may be the single handly most overhyped anime in existance and im not joking. What was so good about this hot mess with an annoying pink alien? The ending was the worst thing about the show btw.. In the end it was all "solved" by deus ex machina magic. And btw: shizuka abducted her step siblings, but didnt do anything with them? Why? Just because the author wanted to redeem her? Didnt she want to cut them open? Why didnt she do it? Bad writing at its best... Ah and how did takopi get back to where it started? How did shizuka look exactly the same, after nearly 1 year? What did she do allone all that time? So many plot wholes. I have no idea how this can be so hyped |

gosh, I REALLY liked this anime until episode 5, in fact, it was a 10, but I was unsure how they would end it, and here we are, easily one of the WORST endings I've ever seen in an overall good anime, honestly, dogshit
I agree, the creator(s) really botched the ending of this, by the end of E5 the plot was so tangled up it needed 2-3 episodes to untangle in a satisfying way which could have resulted in a 9 or 10 rating for me.....but the untangling was completely rushed in 1 episode using some good old "therefore and then therefore and then therefore and then" story telling. |

The ending is quite deus ex machina. Not all problems are solved, but all the serious problems (like murder) are gone.
I feel like this is more suitable for theatrical release of around 2-hours something rather than a TV series so that people can watch the whole thing in just one time, but at least it has only 6 episodes. Still, I assume I'll be much more satisfied if it's movie instead.

Yes. In manga newspaper articles were translated fully. Apparently Shizuka used tool to turn herself into an adult (maybe dad) and took away girls while (I don't remember if both parents were present) parent(s) were distracted for a few minutes (while they were in a park). It is then said that the girls went missing for several months (half a year if I recall correctly), but at the end they were found alive. In anime it says "girls found safe", in manga it says "girls found in fragile state". One thing is clear, Shizuka didn't/couldn't kill the girls, nor did she cut their stomachs, but still she kept them somewhere for months!!! As we saw, Shizuka can barely take care of herself, so it's clear the girls were likely always hungry, thirsty, dirty and probably physically abused whenever Shizuka did the investigation. Whatever the case, ultimately and gladly none of that matters. After all, once Takopi used time-camera for the last time, girls are safe and most importantly won't have to experience 6 months of torment under Shizuka!
Denkenisme said:

Manga explained this a bit better. When Shizuka hits Takopi with a stone, Takopi loses consciousness. Shizuka then takes Takopi's gadgets and leaves. Takopi gets his memories back, remembers he went back in time to kill Shizuka, but since Shizuka is no longer around, he flies all the way from Tokyo to where it all began and finds Azuma. But I'm curious—what actually happened after Shizuka was about to hit Takopi with a rock on that Tokyo city street?

@Sigmar-Unberogen I'm very thankful for the information you provided. My confusion has been cleared up. (I only watched the anime without reading the manga, but after this, I promise I will buy the manga). I'm truly relieved that Shizuka didn't kill the two girls, by cutting open their stomachs as she claimed. (Even though I don't justify kidnapping or abuse). However, with this information, it's confirmed that Shizuka never killed anyone until the end of the story. The actions she took were purely the result of her broken mental and emotional state. On many social media forums, there are so many people who misinterpret this, even labeling Shizuka as a psychopath and manipulative. Takopi's sacrifice by using the camera to rewind time one last time had a huge impact. Even though Shizuka and Marin's fates remained the same, at least the worst-case scenarios we saw from the beginning to the end of the episodes didn’t happen—like Shizuka committing suicide, Marin being killed by Takopi, Azuma becoming a criminal for trying to help Shizuka, and finally, Shizuka kidnapping her father's two other daughters. |

I kind of liked Takopi's final approach to the situation. Because we've all grown up being told that if someone is in trouble or is being hurt, you should always personally step in to mediate the situation and stop further harm, whether you know what is going on or not. However, Takopi's final approach to the issue was a heartbreaking one, but was the right choice, which was to be the bystander and let it happen. Even though he made a little influences on his own, the people he simply stood by and watched eventually got over their drive to attack each other. A fight was what was needed for Shizuka and Maria to find something to agree on (The notebook drawing), and a fight was what needed to happen for Azuma and his brother to both of them to realize the ignorance of what was going on between them which stopped Azuma from continuing to believe he needs to be reliable to everyone. Takopi in the last five episodes focused on helping and trying to stop fights from happening or continuing which only made it worse because he isn't truly aware of the issue going on, only knows that it's happening. And while the ending is portrayed as happy, it seems that the environment between Marina and her mom is still hostile, and Shizuka and her mom still remain socially apart, but when they are together despite the passive-aggressive words towards each other, they seem happy with what they have since there was no third party to truly get in their way. But I give it a 10/10 show. Sometimes the best way to solve the issue to a pair of people's problems is to never get involved with the issue at all and let it play out. Parents should also see this especially if they are prone to outbursts towards their children in times of stress not related to the child. |

I can’t stop fucking thinking about this show and crying all day off and on remembering the rawness and realness of Shizuka’s breakdown and Takopi’s apology. We can all argue about whether the final resolution was satisfactory for you all, but this scene was the climax of the whole story for me that solidified this as an all timer 10/10 for me and everything after it was gravy. FWIW tho I was happy with the final resolution and I thought the show earned it and threaded the needle of finding that sweet spot to land this thing. |

@Denkenisme It was at 9.1, but the disappointing ending is causing it to drop. I still rated this anime a 10/10, but I won't deny that the ending was disappointing; everything got resolved with "magic" in a lazy way. It's still a great anime, but the ending could have been better. |

It's not really hard to understand really, majority of this anime's fans are teenagers and it's well known that most teens love dark and edgy stuff that pretends to be deep. Same as power fantasies, it's no great surprise that most fans of Solo Leveling are teens as well. The anime is not that bad to deserve 1 as you have rated it though. |

I mean... sure, I agree with the overall message. Some problems in life are simply out of your control so you just have to deal with it. Just find someone/something to lean on rather than bullying/murdering someone else. With that said, I have never seen a story that presented so much nuance to a sensitive and difficult topic, and then spits all over it before yelling "just a prank bro". Like, seriously? You couldn't think of a way to fix the relationship other than by literal magic? Wishing on the dragon balls? Are you fucking kidding me? |

I feel dumb because I didn't really understand the ending. He used the camera to go back in time one last time with his powers, but by using his powers this way he sacrificed himself? Was I the only one to not realize he was sacrificing himself then? I thought he would be alive in the past again at first. And then him being gone, the children bond over the echoes of his past kindness? I wasn't sure how they were going to end this but I was just confused at the sacrifice which took me out, and then how everything fixed itself. I never really thought this show could have a "happy ending" after everything that had happened the past 5 episodes and I feel like the way it ended here was too convenient. It just seems like,,, a lot of the problems the childrens faced magically went away. Having the camera break only to give an excuse to use it again and right all the wrongs just feels like a cheap way to solve the plot too. I don't know maybe I'm missing something v_v Overall I liked this show but I'm not really a fan of this ending, but maybe I'm just dumb and misunderstanding it a bit @_@ I'll keep reading the replies here and stuff to see if I missed anything |

I cried a few times and just reading through the thread at responses reminding me what i saw making me tear up again repeatedly-pi (โ หฬฃฬฃฬฅโหฬฃฬฃฬฅ โ) โเซฎ แ โโแ โโแ What a bittersweet end. People saying it was a happy end weren't paying attention. Shizuka's mom is still mostly absent, her dad is living with his other family. I noticed Marina has that scar on her face so again in the final timeline it played out like the original where she becomes traumatized and her mom continues to abuse her for years. This means it is still possible it will come to a point her mom attacks her again and she will kill her in self defense. Though at least this time with Shizuka as a friend now she might not kill herself after and because Azuma did not cling to Shizuka or Marina they are not rivals in this final timeline. Chappy is alive, but only for now since dogs tend to not live that long. At first I felt things resolved too easily like it could have been more natural changes that at least somewhat fit what could happen under normal circumstances but considering nothing Takopii did in the end could have been done before everything leading up to the end was part of the process. A few things I am a bit unclear on with the anime or at least viewing with subs. Did Takopii after Shizuka attacked him just wander back home somehow and forgot or is he basically immortal if killed by ordinary means and respawns like a game character? Also Shizuka said she wanted to check the stomachs of the staff at the animal shelter "too". But the news article we were showed said that the girls were kidnapped and later were found safe. Is there just some bad translation or is it just the way Shizuka phrased herself or was something changed in the anime from the manga? I also am a bit unclear what happened in the end. Was the voice Shizuka, Marina, and Azuma heard a disembodied Takopii actually talking to them or was it simply from them having memories of these alternate timelines echoing in their heads? I could see it working either way but then his final goodbye wouldn't entirely have made as much sense so it maybe was a bit of both. All in all this was great maybe a masterpiece. Most that I think is a flaw seems to fall apart when I think longer and harder on it catching things I missed and maybe I'd understand more clearly after checking the manga too. Ckea said: Brooooooooo I was so happy when I read the description of the last episode, as it implied Takopi would find a way to save Shizuka, Marina and Naoki, cuz that's exactly the kind of ending I wanted to happen all along, but man did they fumble the execution. First off, the camera being broken after killing Marina was the whole reason for this mess in the first place. The fact that Takopi could have make it work again at any time is driving me crazy. Sure he would have had to sacrifice himself, which explains why he didn't do it this entire time. But why wasn't this something he explained sooner? If not to the other characters, at least to us the viewers (through an inner monologue or something, or by trying to hint at it, but being cut off by other characters before he can finish his sentence) It would have been so much more satisfying knowing this entire time that he could do it, but at an incredibly cost. Hence why he went along with trying to find an alternative solution to solving the problem of Marina's death. It would have made it so much more impactful knowing that in the end depaite how hard they tried, the failed an hence Takopi's sacrifice was the only option in the end. BUT THAT'S NOT EVEN TRUE. Cuz remember how that clock on his home planet still exists?!! Naoki even mentions it again in this episode. Heck he basically straight up tells Takopi, to use it to go back in time. But the dumb octopus doesn't. And even if the author wanted to still go the route of using the camera again, just say Naoki somehow managed to fix it. Does it make sense? No. But still more satisfying than what we got. You could even say Naoki wasn't able to perfectly fix, and that's why Takopi has to power it by sacrificing himself. But at least it would mean that Takopi couldn't have done it way earlier. And speaking of things that don't make sense. How tf does Marina remember Takopi???? I get that the story is trying to hint at the fact that deep down Shizuka and Marina still remember him despite the time being reversed. Shizuka I can somewhat understand, since she met Takopi when she was in elementary school. BUT MARINA HASN'T MET TAKOPI YET??!?!?!? It's not until middle school that she remembers him. Are you telling me, she somehow has her memories of her older self from the previous timeline??? I'm sorry but that makes no sense whatsoever. And it's not even like it was established before that you could regain your memories of a previous timeline after time is reversed. That would have been neat, like if Takopi had lost his memories due to time travel but eventually regained them. But remember, that's not what happened, cuz Takopi's mom erasering his memories was the reason he had lost them, not time travel itself. Honestly, if only these two things (making the camera work and regaining your memories from previous timelimes) would have been foreshadowed in earlier episodes, it would have made this ending truly great. But without any foreshadowing, it just seems like these plot points were pulled out of thin air, which is just disappointing cuz it could have been done so much better. Other than that, I find it weird that Marina and Shizuka are suddenly all friendly with each other now. But then again, it's not like there was a happy gadget that could have made them make up with each other... oh wait. All in all, Episode 6 couldn't live up to the peak that was episode 5 imo. Imma probably still leave my rating of this anime at 10/10, cuz that's just how highly I think of the first 5 episodes. But know that right now as I'm writing this, I wanna knock it down to 9 so badly, just for the wasted potential in this episode alone. But it gave me a happy ending, so I'll be nice. His ship was destroyed when he had came back from using the clock tower presumably because he came back to a time while in the ship but because his memory was wiped it played out different where it was lost. In the OP of the show they show his ship being shot down by a fighter jet. His memory was mostly gone except a few things. He did not know sacrificing himself was even an option until his memory of that came back. It was the only option because it previously was unknown to him and the ship being gone and him banished from Happy Planet he couldn't use the clock tower which also would have risked his memory being erased on arrival by his mother again. Though if he did remember all along having these powers he didnt know what to do for sure until his memories came back and he experienced all he did. Everything that happened was necessary to happen. Takopii being innocent, not understand humans or suffering or having his memories how things went it only could have went that way outside of random chance differences. Different series have different models of time travel and timeline. You likely are picturing a branching timeline or one that gets entirely replaced. Picture time as a ribbon traveling a linear line. Now make a loop in the ribbon. Now make several more loops on top of each other. Time did not unwind like a cassette tape you rewound then taped over, those loops dont go away, those were the time travel and part of the flow of time and everything is overlapping but not entirely overwritten. So Marina doesn't have to be a high schooler to remember Takopii because that older version of her is in her past when the first loop was made connecting high school her to elementary school her and all the other events that we saw take place took place, though I assume Takopii only let them remember the happy memories to not bring several timelines of trauma onto them. Order of time flow follows Takopii's view of it. Shizuka and Marina were not originally friends, that was a misunderstanding of Takopii, so there was no making up with the happy ribbon. Plus these happy gadgets do not always work as intended as we saw with the wings not able to carry the weight of even a kid. They were made by happians not humans in mind so it may not even work on a human even if there was anything for them to make up because humans are full of sadness and hatred and fear that happians often never get to experience. So seemed to me it wouldn't work even if Takopii tried to use it plus he was afraid that Shizuka would attempt to hang herself with it again. Ckea said: Oh lol, I didn't even see the post credit scene until you pointed it out. I like how there's still some tension between Marina and Shizuka, depite them being friends now. In fact, I find it impressive that they are able to be friends, even tho their moms are at odds with each other. (Maybe Marina got her scar in this new timeline from her mom as punishment for being friends with the daughter of the woman who stole her husband) As for Azuma, I guess it makes sense for him to be out of the picture, since him getting together with either of the two kinda started things to go wrong in the first timeline. So perhaps this was for the better. (Also yeah, now that you mention it, it is weird how Azuma still had the camera. Maybe he simply didn't mention it to the cops when he informed them about what happened? ๐ค) I think Marina got the scar for the same reason she originally did. It is even in the same spot. Thus why I am concerned she may wind up in same situation she originally did killing her mom in self defense because Takopii didn't cause that. LeWatcher said: Shizuka can't help Marina, and Marina can't help Shizuka. But they can not make anything worse for the other. And so, they simply find solace in each other. Marina did some terrible shit, and so did Shizuka. But they're like 9 year old. You can't blame them; it's the adults in their lives that completely fucked them up. They are children,, they don't know any better because they weren't taught any better. Even so, that doesn't mean they can't grow and change as people. There is no villain or hero in this story. There are only human beings...and Takopi; the alien who helped bring two victims together. Not solving each other's problems isn't inherently not helping, they are emotional support just being there for each other, understanding each other, sharing each other's pain. Shizuka is 10, it is shown in one of news articles mentioning a girl from Hokkaido gone missing along with the two from Tokyo suggesting they may be connected. I am not sure on the others if 9 or 10 but since not explicitly stated they likely are all 10. 10 is old enough to understand consequences of actions at least relatively short term, and have a degree of emotional control. You dont normally see 10 year old's have meltdowns like 3 year olds. I know when I was 10 I already had morals figured out long ago and my parents suck like theirs do, maybe not perfect but I'm not that different from when I was a kid. So it doesn't mean they have no control over their actions and no responsibility at all, of course this doesn't mean full blame, I don't even blame adults 100% so I absolutely wouldnt do that with 10. I think anyone regretful or incapable can be worth to be forgiven or limited in ability and be partially blame lifted. It doesn't matter if someone is an adult they also can be effected and people have this false idea that people just grow out of every flaw once they hit a certain age when that isnt really the case. It is fair to say an adult would be more intelligent in crystalized memory than a 10 year old in most cases but not more empathetic they sometimes can be less empathetic and kids have higher liquid intelligence than adults meaning they learn fast from experience. So Id just say they are different on average in how they process information. Masshiroi said: I think it is hinted that Azuma is now avoiding Shizuka. maybe something inside him is telling him that this girl is no good.. and being with her would bring him a lot of misfortune. and from anime it looks he wasn't especially friendly with Marina, too (except Takopi in Marina's form). so, I see no reason why would he now be part of the group, moreover he could be in different highschool as those two. I don't think he is avoiding her. Rather he wound up closer with his brother and with other friends so he did not have the motivation to approach a bullied girl that would be more than he can handle. He was hesitant to approach her in the first place. AkiraLeir said: The bullshit disclaimer which continued past the first episode really baited me into believing this would be a proper tragic story, but once again, Japanese authors mostly have no balls to go all the way into despair territory and keep pulling this "happy ending despite everything else" crap. All in all, I'm glad its rating is deservedly dropping. It isn't happy though. Marina still went through trauma of her mother cutting her face up, you see the scar in the end. From that you can see that she also likely will wind up again attacked by her mother, then kill her in self defense. She only might not kill herself after this round but she will still be further traumatized. JustMonaka said: I mean... sure, I agree with the overall message. I felt that at first but that was just a narrative tool for them coming together with shared experiences, interests and talking things out which was lead by Takopii. I do feel there could have been more than just one moment bringing them together in this for case of Shizuka and Marina but considering the memories of different timelines lived in them they basically already understood each other more and went through similar experiences in different timelines. Original timeline Shizuka attempted suicide and Marina did successfully commit suicide after killing her mom in self defense because even though their relationship she was abused she was all she had who cared about her even if in the wrong kind of way. Shizuka lost Chappy, and Marina lost her chance with Azuma. Wouldn't memories of that Marina better understand Shizuka once she got memories of Marina in the timeline Shizuka successfully killed herself? We did not see her reactions to it but it is safe to assume she would have at least felt a bit guilty and regretful. From original timeline we did see Marina was kinder and not bullying anyone so even with a failed suicide of Shizuka attempt maybe it softened her up but a successful suicide would have hit her harder. Wouldn't the memories of Shizuka from the timeline she lost her mind over losing Chappy and coldly hurt and manipulated others around her better understand why Marina would act out bullying her? The other time lines were not entirely erased so nothing was truly undone. Everything that happened mattered and lead to the end. I think it is just one of those things that some people are having trouble figuring out because time travel complicates things being different in different stories in how it works and there is a lot of time to think about everything before it sinks in more on why it was written how it was written because the author kept a lot up to the reader to figure out with clues given and some guess work instead of spelling everything out. I feel it is slightly short of what could have been just straight shown though since some things require assumptions based on common patterns to be made. |
