You know i am starting to hate anime now more than ever, but there is reason why it become like this.
Anime nowadays is becoming more toxic with each year to the point there is a turning back. What happen when anime was once a hobby and not overhyped by casuels and jerks who can't keep they're mouth shuts for 5 minutes over some false hype culture that is just a complete joke.

That's how most of communities of hobbies are and anime is not an exception of it. Try to go into Hema/Buhurt/Reconstruction groups and ask about stuff like Reverse Grip you'd see the toxicity, or to people who are going with metal detectors in Poland and ask them about Boratynka, or any other community about stuff which are often talked by people deep in hobby aswell as casuals.

Idk if anime can be even called as a hobby as it is form of enterteinment and I don't consider watching anime/movies/tv series/listening to music as a form of hobby which has no form of any activity

If you hate the medium, because you hate some fans, that's on you then.

Anime is NOT a hobby, you are merely consuming disposable mass media entertainment.

A hobby is "an activity done regularly in one's leisure time for pleasure." Of course watching something is a hobby.

How about joining the hype? make tiktok about whatever is "in" and trendy, gain some likes and clout, making money on the side in the process? gatekeeping / against the grain  is a futile endeavor if you're a nobody.

Tell me about it, I used to think of cooking as a hobby but fucking everyone does it these days. Might have to just starve myself from now on.

You are just succumbing to social media pressure.

Normally, those casuals/tourist (that actually doesnt even play/view/do the hobby that much) would destroy the hobby (see: video games, comics, movies), so i can understand why you have that feeling... The thing is, anime is not like that. We have to thank Japan becuase, ignoring a few examples, they just do what they do, and like what they like.

You dont like Lolis? Too bad, the loli stays

You dont like that we implement fan service? Too bad, we are gonna do it even harder

Until that changes, Anime is safe. So relax, grab a cup of coffee and watch some anime. Outsider will do everything in they power to try to change it by causing toxic discussions, but Japan doesnt care. You are right in being afraid, but relax

I get that, but then I ask myself why I begin caring about what the normies think. I know I'm not like the rest, and that's good enough

What's the point of being a fan of anime and the shows you watch if you can't express your enjoyment for them? I honestly don't understand why people take failed expectations when it comes to enjoyment in shows so personally when, as you said, it's just a hobby. You're not really losing anything significant other than the free time you chose to spend watching something out of boredom. Not all shows are going to be to everyone's fancy. It's all about testing the waters and seeing what new shows will give you a new and fun experience. Or, at least, I would think that would be the reason why anyone watches new shows that people hype up.

You shouldn't care about people's opinions, or you'll get nowhere, my favorite MMORPG has become a disaster since it left the niche category, and yet I continue to play because there's still a part of the community made up of veterans and hardcore players.
Hmm, have you tried to find people who have the same points of view as you? Maybe you'll appreciate it better if you're around people with a similar opinion.

Anime is as important as oxygen or water.
Work (modern day slavery) should be a hobby for those who want it or those who need it or those who are forced to work..

Back when I started anime, it wasn't much known here. You'd join some telegram group and get ridiculed for having a cartoon photo.
Nowadays however it feels like suddenly everyone has gotten anime into anime(esp. after Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan season 3/4 came out). Was it better? Well, you'd no longer be a social outcast for watching cartoons because everyone knows them now. But in return, there are plenty of "cringy" otakus with Naruto/Eren/the striped guy from demon slayer as profile pictures that if you fail to establish yourself, you'll be seen as a weirdo.

You don't actually HAVE to communicate with the anime community in order to enjoy anime. Actually, I'd say if you're really at a point where the community is making you hate it then go enjoy your hobby hermit style now before they do something that annoys/upsets you enough that you can't help but think about it whenever you try to enjoy it.

Though if something as unimportant as people over-hyping something is enough to get you to dislike it then it's worth analyzing whether your connection to it was that strong in the first place. I do see stuff get "over-hyped", but that's never changed anything for me. In my head-- or maybe even out loud-- I just say, "It's not that good, but okay" and move on to watching other anime. And I know a lot of it is because people don't know how to develop their own unique taste in anime and just latch on to whatever's popular/recommended. I just leave it be and do my own thing.

Welcome to the internet. Whether entertainment or news someone had something to say. Negative or positive and whatever scale of that.

Face value is the most obvious thing most people miss apparently with text even though I find the need to be extra careful on the internet to read text/view videos in the correct context other people don't read it in other ways and take it too seriously.

While not as unaware as the ecchi posts of oh well get used to the medium/tags many of us fans have that I see, yeah you see it of people going nuts or happy about somethings. Some trolls, some too passionate. Some just well stuck in their minds/hype holes.

Some criticisms are fair others overblown.

It's why I don't engage in communities unless I need to, going about ideas between if need be and that's it not the best scenes or other stuff or go to niche series instead. Or even then I don't talk and just observe.

Or even better enjoy the works anime/manga/LN/VN and that's it and never speak about it. It's an option. I don't have to care about opinions being right or wrong. Just enjoy it myself. Or quit the series myself. Only I'm the one being effected and it effects no one else around me.

Welcome to entertainment the outlets of creativity, people happy or angry about whatever things they do in their spare time.

It may be dumb but I take it either way.

To me if it's a decision of design that's wasted potential sure. Nostalgia eh.

If something dumb like CGI, animation, shipping and what not then yeah.

Overhyping shows indeed. Or jokes. Ah.

The niche series of manga I review even happily because they deserve discovery.

I'm glad that anime/manga isn't as much of a niche hobby as it was when I first started. Hardly anyone I knew IRL watched it so I never got to talk about it. Now that its popular its easier to find people who like it to discuss with. Also its way easier to get merch. I remember the days of paying out the ass at customs to get some merch.

There's a very easy fix to that. Just watch anime on your own without engaging with other fans about it.

You could easily ignore those other people and just watch anime. Sounds like you just want to complain for the sake of complaining.

Perhaps... but it nonetheless is an Entertainment Medium that can directly lead into some decidedly skill-based Hobbies;

No, it's not entertainment, it's a way of life and not just anime, animation in general. 🙌🏼

I actually agree with this point in that entertainment in general should not be a substitute for real hobbies, like how we are seeing with video game addiction and Netflix binge-watching, anime likewise.
