Recently with the Promised Nverland and with Sk8 and that really disappointed me. I just thought its because they did not meet the deadline to finish the ep. I'm just generaly confused and curious with this since not every series has recap eps. Please let me know why!

Well most of the time its probably because their budget's running out or just simply didn't have enough time to finish an episode.

It works as fillers or sometimes if anyone watches again after a long gap then these recaps help to get into the story.

Having lived through trauma and mind-fucking, I'm accustomed to it now.

Yes, sometimes they didn't meet the deadline of this week's episode, so it's recap time. It's especially true for studios that made several anime in one season.
Recap episodes also exist in second season anime that is released for more than 3 years after the first season. That is to refresh the memories of the audiences that didn't rewatch. Also, for long-running series, it needs a recap in order to stabilize the schedule. That's why One Piece both has the recap and the slow pacing.

though idk the "real" reason why recaps exist in the middle of the season, but yeah.

I wasted all my time in rewatching to the point of my rewatch total is higher than my overall anime total lmao

if the recap has a separate mal entry, it's an "unplanned recap" which means because of deadline issues

some longer shows have normal recaps for normal recapping reasons, i dont think there is any 1 cour show with a "planned" recap, but some 2 cours like clannad and kaiji have them and with longer shows its even more common

Literally just to save time and money. If people need a reminder of a character who hasnt been there for awhile any character could just go "Oh! Its Buffy the captain we fought at Drummer Boy Island".

It's in case an anime seems to long for you. The recap episode can bring you up to speed on how far the story has progressed real quick.

There are recap episodes that are worth watching. One of them for example is 3-gatsu no lion recap which I rated higher than the series itself because it omitted all the idiotic antics of Haronobu and the likes and focused on the important stuff.

The other one is the recap episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion that has an original scene in the second half of it and it is one of the most memorable scenes of the series - Rei's monologue or poem.

Well as it turns out anime is pretty expensive and hard to make so they need to cut costs by making stuff like recap episodes.

Watch Shirobako and you would know more about the anime industry, especially with the production side.

Mostly deadline issues and production costs. It's easy to do. Just make the editor go overtime and give him clips. Also a refresher for those who haven't watched it in a long time and needs to remember what happened before. Although it's kinda stupid to include it in BDs since you tend to binge watch it. Thank you Hunter x Hunter btw for not including them.

I think they’re made for when the show was airing. Because if you watch week by week you’ll forget easily.

This is the correct answer.

The best recap episodes get you up to speed on the events so far while also being interesting in their own right, e.g. FMA: Brotherhood's recap episode framed as a conflict of philosophies between Hohenheim and Father, or Kill la Kill's recap "episode" being a minute and a half long to lampoon the idea of recaps needing to be a whole episode long.

This glorious signature image was created by @Mayumi!

I am the Arbiter of Absolute Truth, and here is my wisdom:

"Anime was always influenced by the West. This is not news.
Shoujo is the superior genre primarily aimed at young people.
Harem/isekai are lazy genres that refuse any meaningful innovation.
There is no 'Golden Age.' There will always be top-shelf anime.
You should be watching Carole & Tuesday."

I don't mind recaps all that much tbh. It's a nice way to relive your favorite moments of the show without rewatching the actual episodes they took place in
