The episode was amazing in showing how different 18 year old Elaina was then when she was 14. I’m loving how the show is getting the respect it deserves. The manga is great btw, I was excited to know it was turning into an anime adaption when they announce it : ).

I actually really like what I'm seeing so far. It's like Ascendance of the Bookworm. Heartwarming and emotional combined with wholesome character growth for a young female protagonist.

I had a feeling Saya was the brooch thief and I feel like this isn't the last we've seen of her.

I don't know why, but even I can't understand why I don't like anything about this series.
The episode seemed super ignorable to me and with each clue I said the ending became more evident, at least it wasn't a plot with a bad moral like the first episode.

If you say it's the worst chapter in novel I hope it improves

This is def no Kino's Journey, despite how hard they are trying with "The land of mages." Well regardless it looks like it will still be a great show. Anyway pretty underhanded (and tbh stupid af) way to make a friend. "Hey look a traveler. I'll steal her ID (essentially) so that she won't leave until we find it." She's lucky Elaina is nice enough to not get mad over something like that.

From the 6 month time skip again at the end I'm assuming these episodes are not necessarily all going to be in chrono order. Probably more like "the tales of my travels around the time I was 18+ years old."

Pretty good episode, shows some other sides to Elaina and how she helped Saya. It was pretty entertaining I think this anime is getting better.
Can't wait for the next episode!

There were a couple of things that bothered me. If she has already travelled for 3 years, shouldn't she already visited the land of mages at this point? She had been wanting to go there after all.

Also, how was she so careless in taking care of her brooch. You'd think that by 3 years, she would have learned how to not lose it that easily. Unless I misunderstood and that it actually hasn't been 3 years, those two things are odd to me.

What a Great Episode and I like how Saya was feeling so lonely that she tricked Elena to teach her Magic and how she hides her emblem so that Elena can stay with her and then Elena she finds out from the old lady that Saya was hides her emblem all alone overall this episode was a great tie to the first Episode which is Awesome

I'd say at this point this show and Higurashi are going to be in furious contention for AOTS for me. I must say that Elaina's vanity is a quite fun character trait, especially since it isn't of the completely over-the-top ojou-sama variety. They're doing a great job with her facial expressions, the art continues to be gorgeous, the stories are fun, what more can I say? They're definitely delivering on the promise of the light novel.
Every day you can read a book or watch some anime is a good day!

They changed quite a bit of stuff from when reading the LN, but that's alright nothing really significant. Overall it was a great episode. For anyone not really enjoying it thus far; please give it a chance, there's more action to be had in future episodes, depending of course which chapters they cover. I assume they're going to do all the chapters of volume 1? If they do, there's a pretty sad one in there, also one with a pretty dark ending. And there's also one where it's quite mysterious and I imagine one scene will be pretty gory. Hopefully they cover this one chapter in volume 2 of the LN, cause that was legit sad. I cried, and I never cry reading a book.

I love how these two episodes have a good advice man. And the fact we can see how Elaina is having more problems trying reach her dreams is just like our reality.

This is so cute and beautiful.

I don't think it was bad, it has shown that Elaina stayed down on Earth after thinking she was superior at the start, that hard life lesson was not wasted and she helped Saya out. She is still pretty smug but I don't dislike that lol.

I do not have any idea of what happens in the manga or any other source material, so this is entirely a prediction based on what we've seen so far in the two episodes, but this is what I think, click at your own risk if I am right (although I am unsure of the likelyhood):

PREDICTION/PSEUDO-SPOILER:
"More than anything, I wanted to protect her. Not cause it's my duty or what's expected of me, or anything like that. I wanted to protect her because of how amazing she is because I believe she's totally worth it. It's always been her, and it always will be...Forever."

I already adore this series. It’s got such a wonderful charm to it that makes me just fawn over it. And the way it opens up the world through the use of just letting Elaina travel is such a clever idea. As she is the titular Wandering Witch, she also acts as the audience’s direct link to the world by asking questions regarding the world and the many lands she travels. For instance, in this episode, Elaina comes across a mage girl named after an unfortunate aerial crash that leaves Elaina without her Brooch. The two become fast friends and student-mentors as Saya learns from Elaina how to pass her apprenticeship test. All while trying to find Elaina’s brooch. As witches are the highest level of Mage, she ends up with a certain degree of power and even influence that is hinted at, hence why she is barred from other places aside from Saya’s hotel. And yes their friendship is so charming. I love how Saya interacts with Elaina and their dialogue shows the growth of their friendship. It’s got the romantic two girl friendship coding you expect and while I personally would rather just an endearing friendship and nothing more, I still adore their relationship regardless. And I like how even after Saya is confronted by Elaina for intentionally stealing her brooch as a way of keeping her around, they still make up and how Elaina handles it. Saya managed to pass her tests je become an apprentice witch while declaring her intent to see the traveler she loves. I just love this episode and this series. I love the dialogue exchanges, the animation is gorgeous. It all works for me. You shouldn’t sleep on this series at all if you want a wonderful fantasy slice of life.

It's pretty obvious by the tone of the show and "smug, cute girl helps other sad, cute girl because she has no friends..." If this show pulls off anything close to "the land of majority rule" I will eat my sock.

So time-skips is a thing with this show.

I would be really glad if they continued with the episodic format.

The series feels very heartwarming and cute at same time with a touch of emotional stuff. Wouldn't mind if they go with full drama in the next few episodes, since I'm a sucker for those.

Can't wait for Elaina's next journey! :)

Ah, your on about tone and mood I guess. Yeah as with everything it'll have its own unique air/mood to it, in everything else its the same idea/genre (is tabi even a genre? lol) Anyways I thought you were denying that "tabi" feeling so early which isn't fair! Because you ragged on the title.

That ED is probably the best one I’ve heard this season. Also I hope that Flan comes back later on in the show since it seems like a waste for Hanazawa to voice her just for her to be in one episode honestly.

YES! More yuri vibes, what a good chapter.
Saya, nice girl, kawaii and manipulative, Elaina tries her best on her to overcome the test and become an apprentice... And what we got? The best result.
And Choucho is back with a good song.

Elaina changed in between episodes. From the innocent charm to a SMUG witch, I see nothing wrong with that... Anyways we are now introduced to Saya. They have their moments together and some yuri bait as well. And that one-to-one talk was handled pretty well. Another 6 months of timeskip and Elaina travelled to another country, opening the newspaper seeing Saya succeeds in her problems and became an apprentice witch.

I love where this show is heading (but I'm kinda sweating with those timeskips). The OP & ED are okay, but prefer the ED more. This I think is one of the "surprise hit" of the Fall season.

Maybe because... That isn't a spell...? Why do people think like this I will never know. You deserve to be bothered if you end up thinking of things like this to be bothered by. It's almost like saying why didn't she just time warp back to before she lost her brooch if she can do time magic? It's probably, not a thing. Simple.

She has travelled for 3 years, yet somehow she was careless and had never thought of a way to locate her brooch.. It is an actual flaw in the writing in my opinion.

I am bothered by it, because from the 1st episode the show established itself as a well written show.

Well, it was rather predictable. Not a bad episode but... dunno, I'll probably forget about it in an hour. I can't bring myself to like Elaina, I'm not into the (quite arrogant) ara ara onee-san type. The way she speaks makes her sound like she's in her thirties. Though she's better than she was in the first ep.
Anyway, I love travelogues so I'm still looking forward to next episodes, I hope it improves soon.
The ED music was nice.

Saya was obviously me when the first time watching this show. She love her in the first sight! XD

Ah, Elaina visited the land of witches, full of them in the blue sky, on her first story telling. Their first meeting was not so great, tho. Saya deliberately push her luck by getting hit on the head like that. Fortunately, she was saved and not dying with all of her scheme. What if Elaina was not the type of a kind witch?

I appreciated your guts. But, please, just calm down your tits first, Saya. She even stole my girl brooch too, such a shame attempt :( Fortunately for her, my young witch girl already attached much to you, and she was too kind. So, yeah, ofc its just turned out into another sweetness overloaded relations for both of them. I simply love that shit!

Also, that old lady scheme against Elaina, in between pissed off and amusing feeling to see her surprising behaviour. Fortunately she told the truth! That owner insightful part scene too. He must be some kind of a man of culture. Lol. The whole teaching session was a great development too. Full of nice interaction, and honestly its perfect on my liking, a soothing and calmer situations really helped me to relax.

So, yeah, thats happening. Even though i don't much aggree with Saya's habits. But, since Elaina didn't have any problem with it, i am here with no complain too!

When I was reading the LN, the whole Saya and Elaina together didn't really exude shoujo-ai vibes. But when I saw the scene being depicted in the episode, I can't help but imagine some people being put off by it.

I’m SO GLAD they portrayed the Shojo-ai from the Light Novel.
From reading the LN this episode was based on, I know this isn’t a an erotic Yuri but it certainly was about FF bonding, maybe beyond just Shojo-ai but certainly not erotic thus far. It’s not a focal point of the plot however it is a piece of the enjoyment the author was intent on using to give us the feels.

To call this episode Yuri, I believe would be reading into it beyond the original intent. It’s about Elainas journey and those she connects with along the way.

In fact they actually pushed the feelings home, but the point was not to create an erotic relationship but rather a deep meaningful friendship that will last a lifetime. Not quite friends with benefits. So don’t look at it that way or I think you will end up disappointed.

Just enjoy the journey.

Great job C2C!

Not sure if gloating about having read the series in advance is the most amiable thing to do. I've read the LN myself, but I find it the conjectures that the people here surmised to be more interesting and intriguing than something to laugh at.

For me by far the best part about Kino is how well it uses the "country" system to create such unique worlds with intriguing encounters. The laws set by each land often seem pretty harmless, but you quickly learn how things break down. It's often morally grey (or completely fucked up tbh) but it makes you think about how our society works in a different light. It's a fantastic series. This looks like it will probably be a lot more light hearted and comfy.

Elaina still acts a bit too conceited, doesn't she? She even broke her promise with her mother and tried to get discounts just because she thought she was special for being a witch.

Okay episode overall. Visuals remain strong but I didn't empathize with Saya enough to even care about her feelings of loneliness.
Also, I'm not really a fan of the time-skips being used so often but it seems that will be the norm in this show from now on.

P.S.: This sure might sound like me being nitpicky but if you know a spell that can reverse time, why not knowing one that can track your own lost items as well?

Ok will stay bothered as its pretty pathetic. From other witch series we ussualy see people hiring witchs/wizards to find items they have lost but I guess the witchs in this series do not have a spell like that. I am now wondering what witchs are for? Just combat?

Edit. To add on.
Since this is the discussion post of this episode. Why can't we be bothered that a witch had to search for lost items like a normal person? Why can't we have questions?

Nice imagination btw but don't put words in our mouth, when did we say that? Usually time spells don't go that far. So idk what your talking about.

Yuri stay away! Yuri stay away (and just for clarification, Aoi Hana is a show I'm trying to get back to)

I'm surprised the broach could be removed so easily since they're attached to the witch and a status symbol, I thought I'd be harder

was a okay episode music was nice, though it felt odd how much she was struggling to find a brooch despite being able to use time-reversing magic lol not to mention for something so important to be able to get taken so easily doesn't seem that smart to not better guard it

was hoping to learn more about this city of witches but got wrapped up in this plot of a lonely girl wishing for a replacement sister.

show has been bumped to the lower priority for such a packed weekend, still find it funny how much time is passing she gonna be 30+ by the time this is over
