If you like (much, much) better writing and more serious themes then I’d recommend the Pretty Rhythm seasons. They’re still for kids, but like Precure they tackle some more mature plotlines pretty well while being entertaining. As for Aikatsu, yes you should watch it! It’s not in my favorite list for nothing. It has the best music out of any idol franchise, for kids or not imo

Rest assured that the girls aren’t generic, they have a lot of neat gimmicks that they actually manage to develop through (an actress, a sleepyhead, a total foreigner - not half like Eli or Mari, a model, and Rina as a whole....just to give examples). I too love Aqours a lot as well. They were my first and still are my favorite J-Pop group, they mean a lot to me and it’ll be hard for anyone to replace them. But Nijigaku really has their own charm as well and I hope more people get to experience it.

Loved it! It feels very original while still keeping true to what Love Live really is. I’ve been a fan of the franchise since 2015 so I’ve seen how each generation develops, I’m exited to see more of Nijigasaki.

Yeah I know about that, I was a bit shocked too but considering how much more mature Hugtto was I thought it fit. The thing is it’s really just implied and while we all know it’s a kids show, I don’t see why they couldn’t have given us more insight to Hana’s future or even her relationship with George. That episode with Papple where she gets purified by Macherie/Amour has imagery that implies suicide blatantly, but considering how badly Hana’s bullying subplot was concluded I don’t even know how they would’ve tackled that. Hugtto has amazing ideas and executes half of them well.....but I still love it lmao

That’s great; to finish Naruto you definitely need to devote time to it lol. And about Hugtto, yeah. Personally I find the story really interesting and probably the best one with DokiDoki, but they leave things frustratingly unexplained. Stuff like Dr. Traum’s daughter and Mother Heart and the original timeline are just kind of there for the most part.

Isn’t it? Amazing characters, theme, concepts, and plot; Hugtto is so good. If you’re planning to continue watching, next is Star Twinkle, which is just a bunch of fun with an awesome concept. Not as well-written as Hugtto, but very enjoyable. If you liked Smile for instance, you’ll like it (though ST has more plot for sure).

No don’t be sorry! I didn’t mean to come off as rude but you know how it is. I’m about to rewatch DokiDoki soon, it’s been a while since I’ve seen it but I remember really liking the plot and even the fillers. Smile is amazing too!

I echo your sentiments about Heartcatch. It had both really great fights and well-developed, likable characters. The closest they’ve gotten to both since has been Go Princess, though not exactly. I hope we’ll get a season in the future that can bring us back those quality action scenes & the great character work they’ve been doing recently. And yeah, I’m a girl....I do get hesitant to reveal that on a site like MAL though lmao

Hugtto is my second favorite! I think it’s a really amazing season. I’ve watched crossover movies in the past, but currently I’m doing a rewatch of all the seasons in backwards order, so I’d like to get to know all the Cures first before I watch any crossover movies in my rewatch. I was into Precure a couple years ago but lost interest, so I’m rewatching the whole series now that I’m back into it again.
