Hey Anime Fans!

What are your thoughts on the best anime adapted from a light novel? Is the anime true to the source material or is it different? Is the anime better than the light novel?!

My favorite adaptation is the Full Metal Panic series. I loved the anime and light novel version.
I have set up a fun survey on light novels! Pls feel free to check it out here: https://forms.gle/wtm9FZWzh8ZepSNU6

oof that's a hard one toaru majutsu no index is a hard no they butched the hell out of it.

kara no kyoukai while it doesn't follow the Light novel to a 1:1 ratio was reworked under the direction of the author. so that is probably one of the best anime adaptations from light novel if not the most accurate.
another one is
Gosick is a great anime that is an adapted Light novel.

oh and probably monogatari.

Slayers is fun, Sutepri has some great moments, but Kino's Journey is a godddamn masterpiece.

it's from a Light novel. i don't count it because we haven't got any continuation in years.

Monogatari is a good example. The staff at Shaft managed to make a book that mostly consists in its characters talking the 90% of the scenes of the novel into something engaging and enjoyable by a combination of pretty visuals and a good cast of voice actors. It also has the bonus of adapting completely what it is the main plot of the novels, something only a handful of adaptations get to do these days.

In terms of adapting the source material extensively, probably Rokka no Yuusha. Unlike other light novel adaptations, that normally adapt a volume in two or three episodes at minimum, or six episodes at maximum, the anime took a whole cour (12 episodes) to adapt only the first novel, and, from what I'm reading, it only skipped a few little details from the source. The animation was hit-or-miss, sadly, but it was nice to see a work that didn't try to rush through the volumes of the novel like some other adaptations.

Why no sao? Where are the fans?

Suzumiya Haruhi, I liked it a lot. And I bet I'm one of the few that likes endless8 more in the anime version.

Ah let's see, I've read:
The first volume of Bakemonogatari
The first volume of Youjo Senki
The first couple of volumes of Konosuba
The first volume of Durarara
The first couple of volumes of Juuni Kokuki (Which I'm not entirely sure I would call a light novel but rather a Novel)

The best one at least from what I've read is indeed Monogatari, the first volume doesn't include the third anime arc but from what I've read the first couple of arcs are a faithful adaptation.

The worst adaptation is probably Juuni Kokuki, while the show is still awesome it introduces not one but two worthless characters that serve no purposse other than generate conflict in order to have the main character appear more sympathetic on the adaptation of the first novel. There are also changes that I don't fully understand the purposse of (see spoiler)

Konosuba is a second in the worst adaptation category. I don't understand why exactly but the anime adaptation cut two entire chapters from what I've read so far, and one of them is pretty important as it introduces one of the main support characters.
