Does yuri anime need one of them to be aggressive to be worth your time?

Without a so-called "turbo dyke," how else can things move forward if the other female character acts like a dead fish?

More like Yuri anime needs good MCs characterization to be worth my time. Don't really care about aggressiveness

Can you give examples of "turbo dykes" in Yuri anime?

The reigning queen is Mei Aihara.

An older anime where it's not the main focus and entirely one-sided is Girls Bravo with Kosame trying to have sex with Kirie.

Oh, so girls like her. Surprisingly enough, I didn't hate the characterizations within Citrus. But, I remember dropping the manga years ago because the plot became repetitive and melodramatic to drive up the tension between the two MCs. So I guess I could say it wasn't worth my time because I dropped it, but that's due to stretching for plot, not the characters.

Is the Girls Bravo one a spoiler btw?

Relationships in fiction need one "aggressive" - or at least dominant - one to be interesting and to look like a healthy relationship. All healthy relationships have an assertive decision maker who takes responsibility and a devoted, loving, emotional one who is looked after.

The ridiculous goal of many modern couples of making everthing equal and completely sharing decision-making duties is fundamentally flawed and the core reason for the breakdown of the family unit in the west.

...

So umm, yes I like it when one of the gals is a bit more assertive.

Was the term "dyke" absolutely necessary in this context?

I am kinda turned down to even read/watch Yuri/Yayoi not because of the genre itself, but it is kinda like Shoujo. You nigh always have one person which abuses the other.

Those 3 genres are really sick and over the top except for a few outstanding titles.

If one of the leads is aggressive, then it should be taken seriously and come with consequences, just like in Citrus and, to some extent, Bloom Into You. Neglecting to follow this severs almost any chance of a fruitful and authentic romance plot.

But I guess you're willing to pay no mind to that as long as the action is hot, which is why people like you give Citrus such a bad image.

As a person sexually attracted by females, a bit of perversity from a female character won't necessarily offend or displease me, and will even seldom be sought after, and moreover appreciated.
As a person interested in romance, characterisation, and the soft narrative of emotions, I tend to enjoy lesbian romance for what emotions, topics and tropes are carried by this. Yet, even if an outright aggressive or just assertive character won't forcibly make my interest cease, as I clearly see as an aspiring writer the potential in progression plotwise...
I do not believe such a duality and power dynamic to be urging. Furthermore, I tend to especially seek lesbian romance for the gentleness and cutesy aesthetics stereotyped upon females as a gender.
Hence it tends, from my sight on things, to be quite the exact opposite at times.

It's not necessary, no. However, the anime does need to be lewd to be worth my time.

What's the difference?

I don't consume GL for the sexual aspect of it, so no it needs not be. In fact I'd appreciate since raunchy works aren't my thing.

It can't really be lewd without a character making lewd things happen.

Since you used Mei as an example, no I'd rather not have my yuri anime include sexual harassment.

Yeah but a "turbo dyke" isn't needed to make lewd things happen, lol.

I don't understand quite well what you mean by 'aggressive'. Since you used Mei as an example, is aggressive supposed to be 'forceful' and 'emotionally immature behavior'? Or do you mean more like 'straightforward' with their feelings - what Mei definetely isn't?

If it's the first, I don't have anything against forceful and immature behavior if it's supposed to be a root for drama and character arc, but the way it was done in Citrus, both in the anime and the manga (even though the manga does try to avert this) is not ideal, because there's barely no character growth or consequences.

If it's the second, I wouldn't say it is a must to be worth my while in every romance, GL or not, but it does push the plot forward and keeps it moving, instead of getting stuck on subtext characters not realizing their feelings, which is always nice.
