The teacher is indeed a douche and has seemingly taken it upon himself to single out Anne. I'm not sure if keeping her out of school is a good idea, though, as it's basically running away from the problem. After all, if Anne can't handle this how can she handle criticism for life in general?

Anne did overreact, but she's still a kid, and very sensitive about her hair too. Now that I recall, petty incidents in school had more effect on my mind than they should have. Most parents would force their children to go back to school the next day, but what Marilla's doing is a much better way to handle it.
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

What Rachel meant was that Marilla should show Anne that staying home is not the better option. Realizing something yourself is must more convincing than being told it. Anne hates putting up with any insults, she's pretty stubborn. Is it that bad to sit with the boys though? (During that time period.)

On the other hand, I really like Gilbert. His personality. Especially when he tried admitted to the teacher it was his fault for teasing her (he realized he crossed a line) and also tried to apologize to her. And I also really like his voice (Dusty! <3). Overall he's a classic mischievous young boy, and I find him endearing.

Well anne was brat and I don't think the boy meant any major harm, but as its been show, Anne is incredibly emotional, but I think she'll call down and forgive him eventually.
I can definitely agree that the teacher is a complete asshole though!

Love how determined Anne was this episode; even the woman agreed she was right to be upset about her treatment.

Gilbert appears to be a bit of an ass and a bully.

What the hell was that?
I mean sure you may be sensetive and just a kid but fuck, you are willing to leave all your new friends at school, treat your best and first friend ever like shit and risk having to leave your new home and go back to being a poor orphan just becuz he touched your hair and he even apologised to you multiple times.
That was the biggest overreaction i've ever seen in my life! And this is the first episode that made me really dislike ann.

"And I hate Charlie Sloane, I can't bear aboy with goggle eyes."

Wow. Didn't expect that coming from a girl that is so self-conscious about her red hair and freckles.
Some parts of Annes character really are rotten.

And not even 5 minutes in and that Gilbert already shows his asshole-bully side. He should get a spanking until his butt is red and blue.
But still, Anne did overract. He tucked her hair and said "carrots" and she totally flips out, starts crying and gets violent...

And the teacher is really incompetent and not suited for a position as an educator, since he has no control over the class. But I have to admit, the things he wrote on the blackboard about Annes temper was correct.

So far Anne is very vain and superficial over looks - her own and everyone else's, and I don't care for that part of her at all, but in her defense here, she said it about that other kid and not directly to him in a cruel/insulting fashion. Rightly or wrongly, probably everyone at some point has badmouthed another person's looks, clothes, voice, mannerisms, behavior, whatever, but it's a whole different story saying it to their face in a mean and aggressive way as an insult, quite like that Rachel woman did in their first encounter. And, up to now anyway, I haven't heard Anne say cruel things to anyone's face.

Okay many things happened this episode.
First of all, I'm truly admirative of Marilla. Not so long ago, she would've forced Anne to go to school without thinking twice or else she would've locked her in her room. It's so sweet to see how much her behavior towards her softened since the brooch incident.
Now for the rest... I like Gilbert. He is the taunting type, but he isn't mean. He kinda reminds of Peter Pan, I don't really know why, but he does. I hope Anne will forgive him eventuallly.
Speaking of Anne, it was interesting to see this new side, a bit meaner side of her. I knew Gilbert was doomed the second he called her carrots but I didn't expect it to go this far. Poor guy, he is trying so hard to make up for his mistake, you can tell he really does feel sorry. Guess Anne's hair is even more of a sensitive subject than I initially thought. Despite everything, I can't really blame her. I mean, she's definitely going too far with Gilbert, but at the same time she's a very sensitive girl who's been through hardships and doesn't really know how to deal with strong feelings... It is clear that as exaggerated as it may seem, she is truly hurt. I feel bad for her... (Well, no matter what, I'll always feel for my lil'Anne, I can't help it.)
I also feel bad for Diana. Playing along with Anne's fantasies is one thing, but having to deal with her temper is another, especially given how gentle she herself is.
At least Anne truly does feel sorry for "abandoning" her. The way she told her she'd do almost anything for her felt so genuine, she truly cares about her, that's so pure.

Haha great Anne's reaction! She knew how to put the smooth-talker Gilbert in his place ;D
