Because we're not Japanese and MeToo, I also feel like no one here is willing to admit that we all put up with it just because it turns us on, "it's part of the story" lol you just want to bust a nut liar |

cause there's a risk that parents might catch you watching something weird but honestly I think when an anime doesn't have fanservice, it just shows that they taking the story seriously unlike most animes. |

For me, personally, two things: 1) When it's over abundant and unnecessarily placed. If a character is looking out towards the sea wearing a tank top and you have an overhead shot, then it would be acceptable that her breasts would be somewhat exposed *just a peek* or maybe a smidgen of side boob. But when the jiggle physics and shots show over pronounced curvature and bottoms get an overly rosy shine it's very unnecessary and distracting. (Looking at you, High School of the Dead) Second thing is that it usually isn't reciprocated for female viewers. With harem anime there are like 6 girls which appeal to male fancy in SOME way. The lewd, the loli, the big sister, the mother type, the childhood best friend. etc. But women are left with the lanky unattractive protagonist. Then some, NOT ALL, I repeat NOT ALL MEN get mad when this is pointed out. "But you have Free! and Yuri on Ice and Haikyuu and all that other gay stuff!!" I'm a fujoshi, but in a universe as expansive as anime I shouldn't be subjected to ONE genre to get my fan service when usually men can obtain it in almost any genre. And not every woman is into yaoi. Those are just my thoughts. |

I don't think fanservice is necessarily bad , but I feel like fan service can get kind of annoying? at least in series that fanservice isn't really appropriate for. Fanservice is completely fine if it goes with the mood and idea, but it gets annoying when you're watching a scene that is meant to be intense and action-packed and all you see is a bunch of fanservice. If that's what you're into, that's completely okay, but I personally don't care for a lot of it, especially when it's in series that would be better without (example; Fairy Tail) |

Something something objectification, something something male gaze, something something unrealistic. Me? I don't watch it simply because it doesn't appeal to me. |

Which further proves my point if he's acting like fanservice elements are detracting from the show. Sexual content, can be the basis of a good story without it needing to be porn. Expect majority criticism or dislike I see people giving to sexual fanservice is about breaking the shows atmosphere by having silly camera angle to focus on ass or female character having unnaturally bouncy boobs, that's when it becomes distracting is what i get out of many comments even here. There's nothing to be distracted or feel off in a comedy show that is using "mature" humor and has characters fucking in plenty of episodes. It isn't comparable to battle scene in an action show where the camera switches to focus on sexy parts of the character, which many like to use as an example. Western media comparison of something similar imo is Transformers: The last knight, with scene of camera on male mc abs and our female mc eyeing him. It's a mess of a movie, but it certainly didn't need that moment and it came out of nowhere. It's another thing if that critique is justified, and sure enough how people view a show influences that stand. But there needs to also be understanding, if someone criticizes one thing in one show but finds it ok in another doesn't make them hypocritical automatically or devalues that critic. Quite many are ok with Kill la Kill's skimpy outfits, because they're satisfied by the explanation given in the show. Those same people may not like sexual fanservice usually, maybe even avoiding it. So I stand by my comment, context matters. |

And not every woman is into yaoi. Those are just my thoughts. Plenty of non BL-themed stuff that just treats the fan-service evenly. Bunny Girl Senpai despite the name would be a good example of a show where the fan-service is indeed realistic to the plot. Sakuta is shirtless because his scars need to be investigated; Mai is in a Bunny Girl Suit because he promised it to Sakuta in exchange for academic performance.Having said that against better judgement I gave Date a Live a shot and it can get annoying. The show styles itself a "parody" of things to get away with it but it's not even funny. We have a military unit that for whatever reason is all-female and seems to follow Wonder-Woman-Senpai's ideas on how to design combat armor. It just looks ridiculous. There's also a scene in there which so blatantly showcases a difference in that in quick succession the viewer is is shown a naked male and - female but the male is not sexy at all and by that I don't mean there's anything inhærently wrong with the body but just the male actually goes to take a bath the way human beings normally do walking around and when the female goes to take a bath he does so like a stripper for whatever reason. erotic bathing (NSFW) |

Often times it’s because they find it in shows that they didn’t expect to find it in, and it feels forced, annoying, and dumb. And I also get annoyed with that. You don’t hear huge ecchi fans complain about fanservice, that’s a part of the show. It’s more when it’s in an action or something like that. |

I don't hate it so much that I insist other people aren't allowed to like it. And I am happy to watch good shows that happen to include it. (Ex: Kill la Kill, Dragon Maid, or the Monogatari series.) BUT a lot of the time, not only is it completely unnecessary, but it breaks immersion. That is, if you're watching a show which is otherwise completely non-sexual and the random panty shots and hentai moaning doesn't fit anywhere. It just comes off as jarring and distracting. On the other hand, if a show's ONLY appeal is that it's borderline hentai... well, those shows exist and I don't tell others not to watch them. But they aren't for me. If I wanted to watch porn, I'd be watching hentai. When I sit down to watch a show, I want story and characters not porn. |

People hate sexual fanservice because it doesn't feel good when the anime is treating you like a damn pervert who WANTS to see prepubescent girls stick their faces into other prepubescent girls' ASSES. Yes, I'm talking about YOU, Dragon Maid, you f*king trash. Seriously though. That's nasty. @Dollphace: Agree 95%. I sometimes find the harem leads highly attractive though. xD I.E. Kinji is incredibly sexy HNNNNNGH. @Sphinxter Yes, we are watching things not in our target group...but the OP asked "Why" so she was just answering the question. Besides it's possible to like something NOT targeted at you yet not like every single aspect of it. People tell me they can't believe I like NGNL since I am female but I tell them "Um, I don't like it for the ecchi stuff. I like it in spite of that. Same with harem and other fanservicey shows. I don't go into them expecting everything to be tasteful...but I'm happier when they actually are. (Nisekoi's lack of sexual fanservice in the anime makes it very appealing to me.) |

It may not ruin the entire anime if it's only a one or two-time occurrence, but it'll definitely throw off the groove that the episode had going for it and it makes me have to reevaluate the character for a second. Like I enjoyed watching this character, why the hell did he have to suddenly grab the largest tits known to man while a moan echoes in the background |
