The battle of Luffy against Katakuri achieved true perfection from all aspects and its like the best battle of the entire series. The only other battle that came close to it was Luffy vs Lucci which is also a masterpiece. Do you think that there will ever be any battle in One Piece that can surpass these? It seems almost impossible now.

It certainly is among the best. Especially once you realize what themes are at work here and how Oda implemented them into the fight:

This arc is one of Odas best without a single shred of doubt. Whover disagrees is a fight- and powerlevel obsessed brainlet.

Whole Cake Island Arc is one of the worst arcs in One Piece. Just boring.

The only good think is fight between Luffy and Katakuri.

Nothing else comes to my mind when I think about best fight, so i guess Katakuri vs Luffy top it!
tho i don't like the end of it ..

Well, we have to wait another masterpiece "fight" from Oda at some point, maybe Wano?
anyway, Whole Cake Island Arc is one of the best arcs for sure!

What was so special about Luffy vs Katakuri?
Katakuri was just another stepping stone for Luffy. Nothing special in that.
Even Luffy vs Rob Lucci was much better than Luffy vs Katakuri.
The only really good fights that One Piece had were the Sanji's fights, and just until his fight with Jabura. The first time that he used the Diable Jumbe was cool. But after that his fights were just boring.

Nope , Katakuri as character was quite interesting ,comparable to Rob Lucci
but the fight was not the greatest IMO
Rob Lucci vs Luffy was much better than Katakuri vs Luffy

I can't really agree with the Dogtooth fight being the best. I prefer a fight that has more dramatic tension. Many readers complained about how long and drawn out the Dressrosa arc was. However, the fact that Doflamingo was caging all these powerhouses and shortening it while fighting Luffy was intense.

Also, the dramatic tension between Law and Dofi, Kyros and Doffy, everyone had a slightly different reason to hate Doffy lol. Yes, Doffy was a rather one sided villain, I won't argue with that. But Dog-tooth pretty much bent over backwards just because he saw Luffy improve. For his character, I felt like Dogtooth should have prioritized eliminating the threat over waking Luffy up when he becomes unconscious, reminding him that he promised to end it with his next move.

Don't get me wrong, I like the character Dogtooth, I just felt it was a bit inconsistent. Yes, Dogtooth apparently hasn't faced someone like Luffy (which in the New World, I find hard to believe) but I feel like his own character was altered just to accommodate Luffy.

Fight was great and i like how Katakuri overwhelmed most time and pushed Luffy to improve his haki. In my opinion it's better than Luffy vs Rob Lucci.
My favorite fight is still Zoro vs Ryuma. Was short but great and made hype on Wano Kuni. We've seen how Zoro got Shusui there and imo first ittoryu hiryu kaen was badass.

it's pretty much,
-luffy gets beaten
-luffy gets powerup
-luffy defeats enemy

it's not reinventing the wheel and the choreography is pretty standard so it's pretty much just like every one piece encounter so far, the war arc has more interesting battle.

I didn’t like Whole Cake Island all that much but yes, Luffy Vs Katakuri is absolutely irrefutably one of the greatest fights in all of Manga.

Anyone thinks otherwise is just trying to be an edgelord contrarian.

The art, the choreography, the sheer will and honour between the two characters, the use of Genius Loci in establishing a mirror match in a mirror world setting - everything from the moment Luffy broke that glass all the way to Snakeman, it is one of the greatest segments in all of One Piece!

I found this battle to be boring and drawn out, but not as bad as the Doflamingo vs Luffy fight. I couldn't wait to move on from this fight.

That being said, I did like the short scenes of Katakuri telling off his annoying sister and when Luffy covered Katakuri's face with his hat so others wouldn't know his secret.

Other than that, this fight was not interesting and felt like most other Luffy vs villain battles.

Did we read the same arc? every single fight in MF was a small skirmish that lasted for 1-3 pages before switching to another character or Luffy running to Ace.

Chapter 895 alone is a better written and drawn fight scene than anything in MF.

Didn't seem like anything special, typical power up win. Katakuri was hyped to be something truly amazing and unbeatable but in the end even he submitted to the Monkey D.

a glimpse of one piece character displaying their ability and powers is all enough considering how unique their ability are than the standard powerup battle. powerup is pretty common in most shounen and its too often believe it or not,

honestly that's all i could ask for in one piece battle. the characters are unique and they show the full extent of how capable they are with their power.

It's not even a real fight, katakuri was holding back half way through to let luffy get stronger.
He even fell on purpose to make luffy believe he won.
It's a farce of a fight.

The only way One Piece detractors can even attempt to try diminish the fight is to straight up LIE about it.

Sorry you didn't get the point of the battle.
Katakuri put his faith in luffy and also used it to make his siblings stop looking at him like an unbeatable god.

Okay, I don't usually post on forums but I guess I will defend this fight. I saw many people saying the "Katakuri should have won" and how they are very disappointed in the ending or even the fight itself is just boring.

How I look at it, this fight isn't just like the typical villain luffy meets, Katakuri was a villain who didn't look down or underestimated luffy(he even mentions it himself) whereas other villains tend to look down on him leading to them getting beaten up when luffy gets his... "power up". And here, even when luffy gets that power up, it didn't really turn the tides to his favor and he still gets beaten down.

Lemme just first say that I don't think this fight has really reached its conclusion. Oda obviously has more things planned for luffy and katakuri and like the Big Mom Pirates just in general. Just look at the sanji pudding situation. There are still things which hasn't really been wrapped up because this is just like a setting up for when big mom and the strawhats really makes their final confrontation. I'm sure Luffy and katakuri would meet again. I dont know if they will fight like they did in this arc but they surely will meet again.

Did luffy win? In my opinion, I don't really think he did. When katakuri was defeated his eyes didn't like roll back like the others when luffy beats them up. He simply falls back, and that's not him giving up. Through all that time he spent battling him, he grew to respect to him, heck he even fought him with his insecurity and embarassment visible(his mouth) which he even killed his own subordinates for accidentally seeing. To me the way he "let luffy win" is like him saying "Just go, I want to see the man you will become in the future." its as if he's letting him go and become stronger so that in the future they can fight on equal terms where then he could go all out and without any handicap. (Tbh, i also actually want something like this to happen... luffy gets defeated unconcious, but katakuri, with all faith and respect grabs him walks out the mirror and throws him to sanji... idk, something along those lines...hahaha)

Also why luffy didn't use G4 even if its obvious G2 and G3 are ineffective? Well first of all its not like its not taxing on him and he loses haki when it runs out. To those saying "Well, he can just run and evade him like he does when he's using it when G4 runs out" how the hell could he evade shit when he don't have CoO and don't even talk about running, Brulee, i dont think katakuri would fall for the same trick twice. Luffy would only use G4 when he know he can take the upper hand, just notice when he finally hit Katakuri he uses it, that's because he knew its a most efficient time to use it, he was able to land a number of hits on him. He may not be the smartest in the crew but he's smart battlewise. It even showed by the end of it that luffy really also respected katakuri when he covers his mouth with a hat while he's down.

This fight didn't really come down to me as just some random beatdown of villains (although there are alot of beatings in this fight), it showcased one of, well, I think is the best and most interesting villains in OP. Really hoping to see him again whenever there's another big mom arc or any future arc.

(I had to much time on my hands to write this essay). This fight is just one of my fave maybe even topping Lucci vs Luffy hahaha and well, just wanna share my opinions on it. Eh, who knows, maybe I'm just looking to deep on what the fight and I should just focus on their beating endurance, combat strategies and the good ol power ups.

I'm not agree. I think this battle is not even the best battle of Luffy. Luffy is practically helped by Oda-sensei. Katakuri was best against him in the use of his devil-fruit, in the use of the differents hakis and he showed a better experience in combat. Also the battle had interruptions sometimes that were against the flow of the story like donuts break, the ten minutes of Luffy running among the mirrors and the ladybug sister of Katakuri poisoning Luffy (this part was exciting). I thing that the battle against Rob Lucci or any battle in the Mareioja Arc is better than this.

Hm, I thought it was one of the worst.

I know OP isn't a stranger to ass pulls, but the amount in this fight was too noticeable. Especially towards the end where Katakuri quite severely injures himself, doesn't use his spear (which he's very proficient with and luffy was having a very hard time dealing with), and stops using his awakened (which was also dominating luffy) in favor of brawling (luffy's specialty). Quite disappointing.
