I'm actually a new otaku here. ^.^

I actually heard of Tokyo Ghoul and Death Note, and I want to watch them. However, my biggest fear is all those supernatural and horror stuff. (It had haunted me for sooo many years already.) Hmmm...for those who had watched both of them, do you think it's suitable for me to watch? Do you think it's worth it?

Thanks in advance >< ❤

EDIT: Btw I know I'm too young, I don't meant this year, maybe after a few years ofc.

I doubt Death Note will scare you that much, it barely has any horror. Tokyo Ghoul used to scare me too before I watched it, I thought "just keep it away from me" xD but then I watched it and it wasn't as scary as I thought. So, go for both!

You could might as well have asked "Should I jump off a cliff or do [insert whatever you think is fun]?"

Death Note, obviously

Death Note yes, it's more of a psychological thriller than anything.
Tokyo Ghoul no, it's not that good. It tries to be really dark which it isn't.

Death Note isn't scary at all and the only parts that could be considered "scary" in Tokyo Ghoul are few and far in between. Tokyo Ghoul is more edgy than scary TBH.

Edit: Actually, you might want to wait to watch those two series. I went to look at your list and saw your birthday. Those series are rated R+ if I remember.

No contest here, watch Death Note, which isn't horror btw...it's a fantasy dark thriller. You may be a bit disappointed during the last third, but it's overall a very good show worth of your time.

And don't waste your time watching TG.

Death Note's more of a Thriller than anything horror-related, and a great one at that. Definitely a show I would recommend to everyone.

Tokyo Ghoul's an interesting case. I'd still say watch it if you're interested, but I wouldn't call the show anything special. If you're still unsure, I would also recommend a show similar to Toyo Ghoul called "Ajin". It's a 2016 anime available on Netflix if you have it, and has the same themes of Tokyo Ghoul without going as over-the-top; it's a lot more grounded and realistic. The animation is completely CGI but it's some of the best animated CGI I've ever seen in an anime.

Death note isn't really scary besides of a few scenes, and tokyo ghoul is censored a lot, and is a great watch for newcomers, don't let those people who have watched hundreds of anime thus most of the best anime tell you TG isn't entertaining, it's just not as good as death note. Also death note has it's flaws and plotholes aswell but people are not smart enough to see them (it's still a 8/9 for me).

Death Note is terrible.

The first season of Tokyo Ghoul is... not that bad, actually. But I'd stick with the manga, it's much better.

Tokyo Ghoul and Death Note aren't really scary.

Tokyo Ghoul does have parts where there is a lot of blood, but also a lot of censoring. I did not find it scary and I am one who is easily startled. I enjoyed this anime but many have said the manga is better.

Death Note
Is the same although I'm only a couple episodes into it I can't be of much help, from what I saw it was not that scary just a bit of violence from criminals and once again I would say that there was a lot of mind games, etc.

Overall both are not scary but they are dark, as in the mood and story.

I havent seen Death Note yet but I advise you to not watch Tokyo Ghoul, read it instead. Season 2 (TG Root A) changes the plot of the manga a lot, but if you're not a manga reader sure do it.
Also, TG has a most of the blood and gore censored but theres some scenes that can be very disturbing. It seems that you're pretty young so i'd advise you to stick to most anime ratings

I would recommend you to read the manga for Tokyo Ghoul because the anime is rushed and the second season is mostly filler. As for Death Note you should watch it its a fantastic series. I really don't think either Death Note Or Tokyo Ghoul are scary.
The word elitist is stupid since it's just used by people who can't defend their favorite shows and use it on people who criticize their favorite shows.

Tokyo Ghoul isn't that scary. It was pretty bloody but I think you don't mind that.
Death Note wasn't scary too but dark. I never saw Death Note as a Horror Anime. Tokyo Ghoul is fine but Death Note is better in my eyes.

You will be fine to watch death note, because it's more of a psychological and mystery then thriller. Even ryuk the god of death does not look scary but cool. You will also meet a character named lawliet, he is very smart and cool.

Note sure for Tokyo Ghoul, you should watch the PV before watch the entire series. Personally, Tokyo ghoul not scared me, it's more of a thriller. The prologue in first episode you will watch a ghoul eat some human. And, this series full of battle betwen good ghoul, police, and bad ghoul. If you oke with thriller, i think you can watch this series. Just try to watch the PV first!

No, don't watch death note until you are at least 15, death note has stuff like suicide and murder etc you're still too young. I would recommend this instead. https://myanimelist.net/anime/687/Tokyo_Mew_Mew

it's bright and colourful with romance in it, since you're a girl as well you will most likely like it.

I watched Death Note when I was your age, a bit younger actually. I loved it, and I still do. Watched it multiple times since then. Never watched Tokyo Ghoul so I can't give an input on that one.

Hopefully you like Death Note. :)

Both are really good anime imo but I personally prefer death note better & since you're pretty young I would suggest watching death note first (like most people have said, death note isn't really scary or anything, the story is just a bit dark).

& I would recommend you to watch Tokyo ghoul maybe after a couple years OR when you feel like you can handle it. I personally hate REAL LIFE thriller/horror films but I don't find anime horror/thriller genre to be scary at all. But if that bothers you I would hold out on tokyo ghoul for now. You can also try watching the first episode if you just want to get the basic idea lol.

Tokyo Ghoul is the bomb!

I've re watched it 3 or 4 times and I still can't get enough of it.
The art
The characters
AHHHHHH

The anime takes unexpected turns and if you pay attention you'll notice some things you wouldn't the first time around. I loved the anime from the first episode but it might takes around 8 episodes to pick up for you, if you are able to handle the gore you'll immerse yourself in it. But if you don't like it well eh, it's not for everyone :p

As for Death Note: it's okay...

“You choose to be hurt rather than to hurt others, right?
You’re nice and wonderful.
But while it seems like you are choosing both,
you’re really forsaking both.”

For Death Note, it is a masterpiece. It is one of my favorite animes.

For Tokyo Ghoul, maybe read the manga because I heard it's better than the anime. My only warning is that it's very gory.

Since you're still young, I suggest you wait and watch something like Assassination Classroom.I know many people your age who likes that anime.

If you're going to watch DN, you might as well consider watching Monster.
That show is great. Better than DN, imo.

As for TK, I guess you should watch the censored version. although the un-censored one isn't really /that/ much gory if u ask me

maybe a good decision. And it is not as if those shows will not be available in the future.
I only know Tokyo Ghoul, watched it for a while when it was on TV, but stopped watching some episodes in, because found it not interesting. And yes, there is blood and horror. (German tv nowadays typically shows uncensored/bluray version)

But so what, there are so many other shows that maybe you'll enjoy more right now.

I suggest:
  • Mouretsu Pirates - a sci-fi/space adventure, good likeable characters, sometimes everyday life, sometimes action in spaceships. nice looks and overall good music.
    no romance, and nothing inappropriate.

  • If you want a very good mystery show that in parts (the later in, the more) does get tight/ thrilling/ scary, but nothing out of order, and that is animated and directed very well : Dennou Coil
I know it is liked much by adults, but do not know how many young ones watched/ liked it, despite it being rated "all ages".

  • Good fun with highschool girls doing tank battles as traditional sport :D , some of the characters are surprisingly (to me) well-written, likeable anyway.
I am almost finished watching it - by its premise I would not have expected such an entertaining and actually respectable anime.

all of these are somewhat science fiction/ future-based, but it is not really so important, it is still about the characters and the story.
