Here's an example of a Chinese "Anime":
https://myanimelist.net/anime/33926/Quan_Zhi_Gao_Shou

It's made in China, but according to Oxford,
"A style of Japanese film and television animation, typically aimed at adults as well as children."

The fact that it has a MAL page confused me.

This might be a noob question, so if I said something faulty, please kindly point it out.

MAL considers Chinese cartoons as anime.

As for if it is. It depends on how strict the person you're asking if they consider anime as East Asian or simply Japanese.

Though if you're gonna go with the original root of the word, then no.

Anime is usually animations produced within Japan and made ( primarily ) or have the crucial production process handled by the Japaneses . The King's Avatar is not considered anime because it doesn't qualify for any criteria , it falls down to be " anime-styled" rather than an actual anime

On one hand, I despise these kinds of topics especially when it involves Quan Zhi Gao Shou because then the fans could just handwave criticisms away with "You just don't like Chinese" as easily as they are doing now with "Shut up. You didn't read the source material."

On the other hand, these threads are goldmines. My body is ready.

1. The following entries are allowed in the anime database:

Professionally produced, animated works created:
in Japan for the Japanese market;
in Korea/China for the Korean/Chinese market;
as a joint production between Japan/Korea/China and another country.
Note: This does not include productions where only the animation is outsourced.

nah, they called donghua... they added to mal database simply for convineince sake since both of them oftenly related each other and confusion already happened even before mal being made...

If it looks like anime then I guess it is anime. Even though it's made in China.

I'm really hoping that they make a Japanese dub. I really can't stand the Chinese language.
