Is it me, or is Subaru's lifespan in every loop is shorter than the cell phone's?

No, that was good and all. But after Subaru realizes his faults and decides to start over from zero, you know, they could at least show Subaru putting his shit together and going/preparing for the upcoming events instead of just totally skipping it and directly jumping into action. That feels... just wrong.

You know it is kind of sad that they have to stretch all over 5 unecessary eps (13-18) to make "Zero again" when they could put everything right after he jump off the cliff, he wouldnt be so unlikable like he is now, and that is much more realistic without all that temee Julius, temee Emilia, etc and audience harassing moments

I kind of agree with it was stretched in early episodes (12-14), but episode 15-18 was necessary imo, especially 18.

but then again, if you cut them, people will still complain "fuck that was not realistic development, only took him 3 episode?" "booo rushed adaptaion, 1/10" you get what i meant.

so yea, just watch the show as it is i guess?

Considering how the writing has been so far I genuinely thought the whale wasn't going to show the moment he proposed that deal. It gave me chills to actually see it appear, especially since Subaru seemed to not do anything special to invoke the witch's scent.

rorimoe said:

Someone please tell me, It could be the result of a rush, but how can Subaru make a deal on the name of Roswald and Emilia? Even talk about mining magical stones like he owned these and the lies detector did not work? He is just guest and how can he make a deal that big, and how Anastashi entered Crusch masion so easy, even overheard the conversation?

Btw
Does Subaru personality "improve" or he jsut the same, just being burdened by that heroic talk with Rem?

Ill pretend that there is no ep 13-18.

My thoughts pretty much align with this post. On what grounds does Subaru have the ability to offer anything on Emilia and Roswald's behalf? I, too, will pretend that episodes 13-18 didn't exist, though episode 17 was sort of important in order to understand this episode.

I see people really wanting this series to be a generic harem isekai story (which I despise)

Thank God Jesus and the Lord that ep13 existed as it's the single most important episode. Which lead the ep 15 and 18 having that impact.

Subaru "dark" development was so necessary as it elevates the series from run of the mill to God like... Future modern classic.

I've never seen other stories that REALLY show the protagonist's selfish side. The fact that the "hero" protagonist gave up on saving his friends in ep 18...Jesus, the writer has massive balls.

Rather late in saying this, but yes, I'm more inclined to believe that he had PTSD myself.

I'll just quote UserofChairs from reddit:
I side with Subaru. I suffered through PTSD due to a mass shooting and it took me years to get my head strait again. So when I see him react the same way I did -extreme emotional swings, lack of cognitive thinking, self destructive behavior- it really strikes home. I think he is dealing with some pretty crazy shit and is in shock and is incapable of figuring out how to cope with it. He had light hearted preconceived notions about this magical world and expected it to be fun and easy and boy was he wrong, and it just blew up in is face and he feels betrayed. But at the same time, now that he realizes what this world is about he is trying to save as many people as possible even if it costs him everything. I get the feeling that a lot of his critics haven't had many life experiences and have no clue about PTSD and are just incapable of judging a really complex character of this nature.

Interesting. I won't ask any questions on your experience since I imagine it's an extremely personnel topic.
Up until ep 15, none of Subaru's real friends died. Sure, Emilia, Felt, Rom, and Rem had died, but at those times, he hadn't developed an actual close bond with them, so it felt more shocking than anything.
And then ep 15 comes along where he see's his friends that he's truly become close to, be unexpectedly dead AND see an entire village full of corpses, and you get an emotional wreck of a 17 year old desperate as hell to prevent the scenario from being permanent, causing his emotions to screw most of his rational thinking.

Wilhelm did mention that he loved his wife when he first met Subaru. To hear how the old man expressing him love again, it gives Subaru the boost that he needed to face the White Whale one more time.

The ringtone scene at the end was magnificent. You can only see those type of moments often in this show.
At least justify your opinions instead of just saying "it's my opinion". It would've been more polite.

And that note on the table was shown in the episode? With that written on it?

No. Someone analyzed the Flugel tree scene. Subaru mentions how someone scratched something into the tree. Well whoever did this stopped at a point where the scratchings were visible and deciphered what is standing there.

The note didn't appear in the anime, it's simply there to make clear what's written there on the tree.

Anyway, now we know that Subaru isn't alone here and that

He's talking about the note where "Natsuki Subaru" wrote this. It was in the mansion.

Sure.
-Subaru suddenly got smart and deduced Crusch's plan. This wouldn't be a problem, however, Subaru's character is naive and dumb as we can see from everything he's done. And there's hardly any development showing how he got to this conclusion.
-Crusch put the fate of many soldiers because she believed in Subaru. The problem here is that she only believed him because she didn't "feel a wind" in him, but this is proven to fail sometimes, since she believed the lie about his phone.
-If the whale killed so many people, why hadn't Crusch done a "whale hunt" before? Even if they didn't know its exact location, they could search for it, knowing that so many people die by it, shouldn't be that difficult to find it.
-Why they remember the people who died by the whale, but couldn't remember Rem? (that could be explained later on, tho)

-Seems you forgot the whole shaman arc where he deduced and created a clever plan to find and draw out the culprit there? That takes brain power and thinking. He's no genius, but Subaru can certainly put two and two together when he's calm and suffering from trauma.
-You 2nd point makes no sense and you have completely the fact he he didn't lie about his phone.
-Because this her first time to do so and you have nothing base on that the fact they can find easily other than just because.
-At point you shown you can't grasp some basic facts so I don't the answer will even matter.

Is that even important? What she was going makes sense. You don't have to be Conan to get it...

-Crusch put the fate of many soldiers because she believed in Subaru. The problem here is that she only believed him because she didn't "feel a wind" in him, but this is proven to fail sometimes, since she believed the lie about his phone.

He wasn't lying about the phone. It's more of a loophole abuse. He wasn't really lying when he said that it's thanks to the phone he knows when the whale will appear. If you watch again, you'll see that when the whale was chasing him, his phone fell and he saw the time it appeared on.

-If the whale killed so many people, why hadn't Crusch done a "whale hunt" before? Even if they didn't know its exact location, they could search for it, knowing that so many people die by it, shouldn't be that difficult to find it.

Willhelm tracked it his own entire life. Take it however you want, however, I'd say it's not that easy to find it.

-Why they remember the people who died by the whale, but couldn't remember Rem? (that could be explained later on, tho)

It will be explained soon.

Just wondering but are they/have they explained why when the White Whale showed up, Rem died along the other merchants (killed by the White Wale) in the previous episode, the people they knew except Subaru started forgetting them but in this episode, Wilheim still remembers his wife even though she died by the White Whale.

Are they going to explain this later in story or have they already done this and I just wasn't listening.

Forced unrealistic development, if you'd even call it that, of Subaru.

Last episode he's crying about how he's a useless sack of shit that can't do anything and is a complete dumbass, next episode he outsmarts two political leaders in bargaining from little deductive skills that he CLEARLY did not care or couldn't even pay attention to because, remember guys, he was soo crazay and traumatised. He fearlessly charges headfirst into battle as well, unlike all the other TRAINED SOILDERS, and not fearing his death like he was constantly in the last loop.

So literally a 10 MINUTE DIALOGUE EXCHANGE LAST EPISODE BREAKS THE GUY OUT OF SUPPOSED FEAR, DEPRESSION, SELF DEPRICATION, GUILT AND TRAUMA. Great! So now he's just a cringy unbeatable character due to his time loops never going bad in the end.

Also the episode was just plain boring and extremely dragged out.

I couldn't give any less of a fuck about MUH revenge old guy because they never made me care for his character in the 6 episodes he was there.

2/5 needs more beetlejuice eyeball licking twister.

I found it funny when you said it was "literally 10 minutes of dialog exchange." when the anime was extended and was dialog the entire episode.

The first 10 was just subaru ranting, the other ten was when the actual conversation started.

Later, though I don't if WF will hint at the reason. But if people remember than it stands the reason that Theresia may not have necessarily died to the WW or the WW simply killed her.

The green hair girl is my favorite character in the serie. She reminds me of Oda Nobuna, ambitious cute girl who has great leadership potential.
Nice to see Sobaru thinking a little.
Anastasia and her too little vice-captain are cute as usual.
Rem's LOVE RIVAL (Juvia ?)
And those soldiers who had sad past with the White Whale & Vilheim's gratitude ..

And the thing I liked the most is Sobaru and Rem leading the White Whale extermination !

Yeah, that's true. But the thing, did Rem & Wilheim's wife died the same way?
I'm certain Wilheim and the Old Soldiers lost people who're dear to them by the same killer. But we've aleady seen the amnesia after Rem and the marchant death.

I liked last week episode because it seemed like it was build up for making Subaru more bearable in the future (even though it was kind of redundant and reduced Rem into a shallow waifupandering girl) but even though Subaru was more tolerable this episode I still feel the first half was way too slow (it got good in the end when the whale showed up though).

Asspulls and convenient/bad writing aside (the mobile phone still having battery and all of that and going straight into negotiations territory instead of building some more trust between each other before believing the madman who got humiliated that badly with a matter as serious as the White Whale), I like how we are finally focusing on a new set of characters again, Arc 3 really suffered A LOT because of how they keep on killing the same Arc 2 characters over and over again. Let's see how the next episode fares out.

1. Many phones have plenty of battery enough to last more than a month if barely used.
2. There've been only *2 episodes* of the arc 2 characters being killed off.

Great episode and everything but... Shouldn't they have brought a bunch of magic people with them too? Like, are they just gonna stab the thing till it dies? I didn't anticipate that it could actually fly, thought it just skims the ground but still. The thing is massive too.
And if it was such a problem, wouldn't like the country they're in mobilize their army instead of letting mercenaries do it? Just get Reinhardt all up in there if he's the slayer that everyone calls him then as long as he has support then he should be fine. Just nitpicking, Re Zero isn't the only one. Subaru went from stock Impreza to full on WRX rally special.

That's why I said "convenient" as well. The show relays way too much on specific details happening at very specific times or objects having specific properties for a lot of what has been shown to work. The narrative seems more like a man that keeps pushing a car up a slope instead of something that flows naturally and it shows quite a bit in certain episodes.
