How do you usually get back into the groove of things after a long hiatus from MAL?

I've been gone for like a month due to college, and I come back and I have no clue what I'm doing. The other longest break I took was only about 2 weeks but I hardly ever take breaks tbh. And now it seems like everyone's changed their name and forum sets so I'll need kami-sama's aid to remember some of you. Came back to 35 notifications, around half of which are that new club mass messaging feature so that was pretty surprising, but at least it doesn't break the website like other updates have done.

The only thing I'm really doing right now is responding to PM's and stuff. I feel like I missed some hip threads so tell me if I missed anything cool too. If you take lots of breaks tell me how to adapt to this new environment plz. Also, I'm considering disabling ad block for MAL since there is still a block of text in the space an ad would be anyway, so tell me if that's a good idea or not. My computer probably has like 10 viruses in it already anyway lol.

Edit: I think around 50 of my forum posts got deleted while I was away. Not cool mods, not cool.

Go into the religious threads or make an ironic thread that you aren't aware that it is ironic making you look like an idiot.

Works well for most users

You don't. You just sit back and see every reason you left in the first place.

Everyone is super into Avatar the Last Airbender now, it even got added to MAL.
So you should probably go make some threads about it.

The above comments is an excellent reproduction of the state of discussion we currently have here.

I was inactive for a couple of months at the start of the year

ngl it is weird coming back and seeing that the regulars have changed. I just posted in a lot of threads and familiarised myself with the new users.

I haven't been on MAL for years. All the people I knew back then, don't use it anymore. You just get on the wave, I guess.

That's okay. I was away for a day in December and lost about 3k-4k posts.

Oh shit I remember those dark days. Lost around 1k myself. Faith in humanity was lost slightly that day. And I don't even shit post that often tbh.

I had a bunch of thread ideas while I was away but I forgot most of them.
And lots of current events have happened in the mean time, which sucks since I'm a CE thread maker and I lost my chance at a lot of controversial events.

Idk I just post for a little bit and then leave again.
☕ Truth be told, I'm quite proud of my house blend. To attain my flavor and fragrance, I use five different types of coffee beans. ☕

Oh yeah btw since like last week I'm no longer hoetaru and instead have accepted the identity of hello-mari

I never take a MAL hiatus because 1)I've been on this site for like .2 seconds and 2) I have no life so there's no reason for me to
So I can't help u so sorry good luck

despite what you seem to believe nothing ever really changes so there's no cause to be alarmed.

That's basically me too. Or rather I have a life but also an unhealthy addiction to communicating with strangers on the Internet.

I literally took an 8-9 month break and I just came back yesterday, and it's like I never left. I just casually continue posting in the forums and reply to people who left comments/messages after I left. Some of my posts also got deleted. I needed like less than 100 to reach 2000 and suddenly I needed 200. But oh well there's not much to do but just continue posting and reply to others. You'll gradually adapt to it after a while.

Make threads about the innumerable flaws of ecchi and harem genre anime; particularly those self-insert ones with kirito-clone MCs.
Be thankful for the wisdom granted to you.

I got "RIP" comments after only being gone a month. I can only imagine what my wall would look like if I was gone the same amount of time you were lmao.

I expected that would happen when I left, so before I went on hiatus I left a little notice saying I'll be back and all the rest. It lessened the amount of "are you okay?" "what happened?" and "did you quit?" messages. Also, people still continued to send friend requests and message me so leaving a little notice pretty much helped.
