Why an anime OVA takes a long time to be subbed?

I have many questions:

- How long an ova episode will be available with subs start from the day it is released (on internet)?
-why do the fansubbing groups takes so long to subs it?
-what is the difference between the ova episode and the series episode? They are about 20 - 27 min per episode, but why the series episode is available with subs a few hours after the raw version has been released?
- I understands subbing work is not easy, but why
does it is really too long to wait for that?
1. Are they want to make the timing of each sentences/line (sub) perfectly fit in the video, or
2. Are they still checking if the translation is correct, or
3. Are they just don't have any references (manga, LN, etc) to subs it?
-then how about the anime filler? They don't have any references but the subbed ver. is still released a few hours after ( probably because they understand the language). Then why don't they release the subbed ver. of an ova episode a few hours after the raw version is available, just like the series episode?

I see there is no problem with the subs timing or anything else in the series episode. Can someone please explain this to me?

Good question, but maybe it has to do something with thr fact it's not on TV

Because usually fansubbing groups don't even sub it.

The source is usually from DVD/BDs, not TV.

Most of the OVAs/Specials (that I watch) were subbed by random fans on Tumblr.

A lot of the so called fansub groups just take scripts from official subs and slightly tweak them, something they can't do when there are none obviously. Also they tend to prioritise the latest seasonal shows.

Speaking of random fans subbing OVAs, I'm currently fansubbing Ore sama Kingdom. I haven't caught up to where the other fansubbers got to (I only poorly translated the script for episode 1), but I plan on subbing the whole series. I have all 14 raw episodes downloaded.

Most shows don't have "official" subs. What are you talking about?

Like if it's a Crunchy show? They don't always translate OVAs and stuff.

fansubs usually get the official english subs and just edits them now a days, there are only few fansub groups left that do their own translations from scratch

TV shows usually have official english subtitles out from legal streaming sites like CrunchyRoll and fansubbers today just get that translations and edit them, while OVA and Movies does not usually include english subtitles in there disc releases be it DVD/BluRay so a lot of times fansubbers will wait for an american disc release (DVD/BluRay) of the OVA and Movies since they will have english subtitles and also english dub

Everything this guy said.

Plus i imagine that the fact that most OVA/Specials are not story relevant helps to kill the motivation to get it done quickly.

fansubs of OVA and Movies today usually depends on the availability of english subtitles on the discs be it DVD or BluRay, BD = BluRay Discs that has HD resolution like 720p to 1080p and BD releases are usually uncensored, a lot of japanese DVD and BluRay now a days include english subtitles but not all of them so in case of no english subs from the japanese discs then most fansubbers (today) will wait for the american disc releases which usually take 1 year after the anime airs on japanese cinemas

sometimes some fansubbers or just some random internet person that know japanese language will release english translations or english subtitles and then another person will just mux or combine the raws with the english subs and release it on nyaatorrents

Well the OVA doesn't come out till Beginning of june. Maybe a week for raw to make it's way to the internet. 2 Weeks for subs. You will probably find versions floating around about the end of June. You may find a badly subbed version stuck on a crappy video around mid june at the earliest.

If you're waiting for Kekkai Sensen, just stalk the Tumblr tag because I know someone will probably sub it within a day after it comes out.

Why is OP so dense and skipping posts that tell the truth.

With the rise in popularity of sites like Crunchyroll, the vast majority of anime that airs every season is subtitled and on the net within hours of its Japanese broadcast. Fansubbers just can't keep up with that so most of them have either gotten really lazy or just given up entirely.

When it comes to movies and OVAs which often take much longer for overseas distributors to get a hold of, that's bad news. Even if subtitles do get released quickly there's no guarantee the quality will be good. You might even get Engrish subtitles.

If its a more niche show you could potentially be waiting months for subtitles. Though that's a worst case scenario. Best case scenario? A few days.

Oh my god, I remember some of the Attack on Titan OVAs were somehow leaked online and translated like 2 days before it even came out in Japan
funny thing

anyways. OVAs aren't top priority most of the time. Also, they generally take a longer time to obtain because they aren't broadcasted on TV. Shows broadcasted on TV means that they're also available through Japanese streaming sites so it's easy to get raws the minute they come out.

OVAs are usually hard disks (or hard copies) that are meant to be sold in stores. You have to wait for some generous Japanese person to buy it, process it, and then upload it online. But they don't upload it to popular streaming sites like Niconico or Youtube (cause copyright OTL) so they can only upload it on more reserved sites, like their blog, which makes it even harder for translators to find the raws.

The anime finished airing in 2013. The reason why I decided to pick it up is because I don't expect it to get subbed otherwise. I'll try not to deviate too far from what the original is, but I don't know too much Japanese so it won't be that accurate.

TFW I'm still hurting for a good Seitokai Yakuindomo* OVA sub...

But most OVAs do get subbed by one group or other. Some faster, some take time. And then there's the SYD situation...

Is it depends on how popular it is among fans?
