I have watched alot of popular animes and they are getting boring now cause they don't make me feel excited anymore. Recently tried Soul eater cause I wanted to watch similar anime to Tokyo Ghoul but it was too childish, dropped on first episode. A decent anime I have watched recently is just Erased.
So what I am looking for is non high school animes, and no young teenagers. Not childish comedy.
It could be any genre but comedy should not be it's main theme. It may have romance and it should have good character art.
I will give some examples to help what I am looking for

-Tokyo Ghoul
-Fma brotherhood
-Elfen Lied
-Erased

I know all of these follow different genres but are all serious animes and not for little kids.

-Shingeki no Kyojin (Action, Drama)
-Mirai Nikki (Horror, Action)
-Code Geass (Drama, Action, Mecha)
I think none of those have comedy or if they do it is a really small amount. Even if Code Geass is mecha I do not consider it childish. Since I think most interesting part of it was the main character and his way of analyzing every situation and comming up with great strategies + the story is really mind blowing.

Lol yea, that's ditto for Elfen lied as well, the fact It's ecchi, is pure proof It's for teenagers tops(ecchi exists for no other reason then the fact you can't sell hentai to kids, and studio wanted a way for their crappy anime to sell, without the need of putting actual effort into making something good).

Watched mirai nikki, have to watch Shingeki no kyojin. And Code Geass I dropped cause it seemed like a political anime on first episode don't really like those type.

Code geass is not a political anime, you might like it, give it a chance for like 6 ep then you can drop it if you want.

Well in no way, shape or form, is Elfen Lied a serios anime either, It's just a crappy shock, and awe anime. A very tasteless one at that.

Tbh, all the anime listed so far is not mented to appeal an adult audience.

Then you may suggest some?
I believe you have watched anime that are intended for adults.

It was my intention to initially do such, but that anime pushed me away from doing such.

Well I guess since you asked, I could suggest some.

The Legend of Condor Hero

Kingdom

Spice and Wolf

Nana(although be warned, this has the worst ending ever)

Victorian Romance Emma

Hanasakeru Seishounen(It's tagged a Shoujo, but It's really a Josei)

Kiba(but this series screams lost potential)

The Legend of Qin/aka Qin's Moon

Moribito Guardian of the Spirit

Inuyasha+Inuyasha the Final Act(wrongly picked up by a shonen publisher, who ever would suggest this is for children or even teen for the most part, is very sick in the head)

Saiunkoku Monogatari(another shoujo, that really should have been labeled a Josei)

come to mind.

Lot's of mixed (good and bad) recommendations from this thread lol

Here's mine:

Baccano! a solid cast of adult characters, just an overall great show.

Monster

Mushishi calming anime that delves into some deep storylines

Psycho-Pass mature feel and atmosphere, with almost no fanservice/childishness(?)

Shirobako great for young adults/adults.

Hope this helped, happy watching!

Yea I have yet to watch many animes. Most I have seen are the ones most rated or popular but I know there are many good ones that do not get as much credit.

And mostly I have been watching harem/ecchi so needed a change from them so that's why the animes I mentioned might not be serious for you but they were for me when I changed from harem to other genres.

Although it is shoujo (made for girls), Full Moon wo Sagashite is one of the most mature anime I've seen. Nana is shoujo and Fullmetal Alchemist is shounen while A-Channel and K-On! are seinen so demographics are not good for measuring maturity. Bartender and Usagi Drop are also mature anime and are intended for adults.

Honestly, I'd say Death Note, although I suppose it has teenagers in it. It's a dark themed anime, and the age of characters doesnt mean much at all. I can somewhat see it as "horror", although I'm 14 so I can't really judge it too much. In my opinion the ending is pretty messed up (to me), but it's a good anime, I can recommend it to anyone.

+1 Durarara
+1 Death Parade

Both cover some psychological aspects (Durarara is so crazy itself that you might start questioning your own sanity tbh) Death Parade is very emotional and character based, yet also really heart warming in the end. Both are meant for mature audiences.

Serial Experiments Lain (if you like deep Psychology)
Psycho-Pass
Ghost in the Shell (Both the original movie series and Stand alone Complex)
Akira (if you'd watch a just in general amazing movie)
Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu (since you enjoyed Tokyo Ghoul)
