Which country besides Japan is anime most popular in?

I've seen discussions before when I was talking about how anime is unpopular in the U.S., but a lot of people argue that America is the second best country to be an anime fan. But anime is a lot more mainstream in the Philippines, and a lot people say that anime is popular in France. In your opinion, what country besides Japan is the best country to be an anime fan?

It doesn't matter for anime since there's subs for everything, but for manga it'd have to be France and Germany.
I probably regret this post by now.

I have a Filipino friend who's told me anime is quite popular there.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

it seems fairly popular here in Australia. I havent been to other countries so it's hard for me to really tell, but judging by the community I see on MAL countries like USA, Canada and countries in Europe like France or Germany would be good guesses.

Most certainly Italy.

Anime has been popular in Italy for a long time, and pretty much every worthwhile Anime from the 70s, 80s, and 90s has been dubbed in Italian.

Yeah. Plenty of Filipinos and Indonesian teens I meet have had their fair share of anime more than those from EUs and USs so I'm assuming it must be more popular there.

This. Bigger publication library in Italian than there is in English. Italian Dub dates back just as far as English.

They dubbed that too.

They've been dubbing Anime into Italian at a mass scale since the early-mid 1970s.

Manga and eroge are what's popular in China.

I've lived in mainland for 21 years of my life, and grew up watching a lot of "cartoons" that I didn't know were anime until much later. Some includes Dragon Ball, Bakusou Kyoudai, Digimon.

When i was in junior high, almost my entire class reads manga, but none watch anime. In high school a majority of former manga readers stopped including me, because there is like no time for you to have a hobby if you want to go into uni.

As for eroge, quite a bit of my uni friends were into it, and it has a large online fanbase.

Not really. There are local channels for each country and the same cable company operating throughout much of the region.

Filipino, btw. Here in the Philippines, anime is quite popular. Most millennials here grew from watching Dragon Ball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho and Slam Dunk. The popularity of Naruto, One Piece and Hunter x Hunter also cemented the Filipino's fascination in anime. Case in fact, HxH 2011 is one of the highest rated shows on its time slot. I will say that the country has the most casual anime viewers in SE Asia.

Hmm. I'm from Indonesia but i didn't even know that so many conventions were held here. Even if there were conventions probably there were just held on a big city or two (On the capital city and nearest i guess), considering there are many more big city on each province i will not count that as So Many. I will not questioning the anime popularity here, yes it is quite popular here but i cant clearly approximate how popular it is even i live in this country so i'm sure there are many countries beside here where anime more popular.

Plus internet is still precious and hard thing to get at several places beside on the cities (atleast thats what happen to me) which is the main source to get animes because I believe literally no anime that aired on TV channels here anymore, aside Doraemon and some other stuffs i guess (i dont know. i dont watch TV anymore, just watch it for News and Football matches) and the numbers still keep decreasing, Dragon Ball just got banned.. but they prefer some shit shows several times worse for their children instead..

And eh, pardon my english.

Much of Asia, France, US, Canada, and Brazil spring to mind. Probably a lot more as the medium has steadily been gaining in popularity abroad for ages now.
