Hi I'm new and am going to college soon and I was wondering if it was okay to stream Anime on unofficial sites using college internet? I ask this because I know you can't torrent and stuff in college on their internet so I'm wondering how all the people in college watch their anime(assuming you cannot stream it, though I don't know if its allowed).

Well since I don't live on campus I have no idea, but I'm guessing you are allowed to stream.

Stockpile them a lot.

That what I did when I still can only use DVD burning to store them.

Now that portable HD is so damn cheap, you can pretty much have more than you ever have time to watch.
Nah, i dont think sharing anime ratings in signature is cool thing.

Here, stare at this pointless signature instead.

I'm sure it depends on which college but most colleges I know will like suspend your internet if you torrent. At least that is what I've heard

Why not watch on official streaming sites instead? Assuming sites like CR are available in your region, anyway.

Unless they block the streaming sites off the network completely, I imagine you'd probably be able to watch them. And along with the other suggestions, there are non-torrent methods of downloading out there.

Download them at home. Unless you're out of state or just can't go home then well you're shit out of luck.

Dunno about your college but mine didn't block any anime related websites and videos. The only thing they blocked was p0rn obviously.

By the way, so many students torrented movies and stuffs on the campus.

In the worst case you can't really do anything, just go to Internet Cafe or something.

Yeah I'm going out of state so stockpiling isn't really an option, but I was wondering about ongoing ones that come out weekly and such, how do people watch those? Streaming in college shouldn't be a problem compared to torrenting in college right? Thanks for the responses so far.

It depends what college you're in, but many in the U.S strictly forbid it, although some people get around it.

OP, you're going to have to stream anime.....or when you get home, just download them and watch them later.

Well I'm in Canada, but I assume it's similar. I hadn't even though about this, now I'm sad.

I go to Berkeley, for us basically that rule is more like a moral code to follow.

I will give you the facts:
1) Colleges don't do anything as long as nobody complains to them.
2) ~300 people every year get some form of punishments for illegal torrenting/downloading. (get caught once, 1 week no internet; twice then something bad happens)
3) I download anime from an TAIWANESE website and I was not caught
4) nobody that I know of had been caught.

What I suggest:
1) DON'T FUCKING TORRENT "NEW" MOVIES
2) you should be fine if you don't do 1

My uni didn't give a shit, and CR and stuff wasn't around yet, so I just torrented everything like a good student.

I'd just say get CR though nowadays, no reason not to have it anyway. 5 bucks a month for 1080p and all the fansubbers just steal their scripts anyway, so you get it first as well. I'd just make sure the site works at all (you can sign up for free trial) before paying, the school might block it or something - never know.

Generally, universities will not have problems with what you do on the internet as long as it isn't illegal/rather morally objectionary. Streaming legally (Crunchyroll, Hulu, Funimation, etc) isn't either of those, so I think you'll be safe.

Colleges don't care what you look up or do. As long as it's not in the library if you have a laptop or desktop in your dorm room they could give a shit less. My roommate watched porn 19/7

You'll watch anime while in college?
I had an anime dry spell for four years because I took chemical engineering... =(

Well, maybe you are more academically gifted and can be distracted from your studies without compromising the result.

OT: I'm still studying now, and my university does not allow torrents and physical downloads for big documents as well but I think streaming is okay. We have an allotted 3 GB of data every month to use.

3 GB of data?! That's how much I use a day!
Or I used to, until my internet subscription ran out this month.

At my college, they couldn't care less what websites you visit, but even at other schools, I'm sure that you wouldn't get in trouble for watching anime online illegally. I'm sure they have more pressing matters than going after some guy watching Chinese cartoons in his room.

With that said, torrenting here is blocked, meaning that you can download the torrent and open it in some torrent program, but the connection itself will be blocked, meaning the file will not download. To get around this, I use a cheap seedbox and simply download the files via http (i.e. normal file download) to my computer. Works like a charm!

I sit in lectures, watching anime from the Crunchyroll app on my iPad.

Not the greatest selection but it sure beats listening to the lecturer drone on and on about moles and chemical compositions

Personally I can't imagine how I would watch anime without torrenting it.Thank god my college campus doesn't mind torrenting,or anyone in the country for that matter.

Wat? I'm not following. Why don't you just watch it on a official website instead of torrenting?

Some official sites dont have the anime you are looking for. I only know crunchyroll and they dont have One Piece. I was a subscriber for a pretty long time before I canceled the subscription.

I canceled it the moment I found of about other websites that have everything I am looking and more- without paying.

I never liked crunchyroll. Needed an account and stuff, really annoying. I only used it for a while because of a free trial.

Stream legally. It's probably your best option if you have it.

I saw a couple of people streaming anime in my library on their laptops but nobody gave a shit.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh at this. I mean, I laughed really fucking hard.

Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings if I did. To answer your question, yes. I watched anime on "illegal" streams all the time in college. I don't think you'd get in trouble if you watched illegal streams anywhere unless it was somewhere like a public library where they might have a set guideline for what you can and can't browse.

*edit* You seriously can't torrent at your college? That's actually really surprising...

Yes you can't torrent, as most torrents are illegal many colleges flat out ban it. You could torrent at home and watch it in dorms or just stream for convenience.
