| I've been watching Aku no Hana and after looking at the score I felt astonished. I gave a look at the manga (without spoiling myself) and my only explanation is the fact of how the characters went ruined by the visuals. Anyway I want you to recommend something with a score below... Let's ask 7 and you feel like it deserved more than 8. I feel like I'm losing some nice anime out there. |

I can see why many people don't like it since it is incredibly gory, the story is heavy and the characters are despicable and it did only showed about 1/3 of the story in the manga but the animation, the soundtrack and the atmosphere you get from this anime is just incredible. | Kurau Phantom Memory. Definition of a hidden gem if ever there was one. School Days as an all time guilty pleasure. On the whole Yosuga no Sora thing. Even if you didn't like the show, you can't deny it had a marvelous soundtrack. |

| Only one I have on my list that has an average score below 7 and a 8 or higher from me is Skull Man so I second that. You'll really have a hard time finding many of those titles because MAL in generally rates quite high so for something to slip below 7 it must either be really obscure or just plain aweful. Aku no Hana is an exception because it's just people feeling that their expectations have been betrayed and a general disagreement about animation style. I can't think of any other example that is this controversial. e: Shigurui is rated 7.65 though, I would have mentioned it otherwise. Great show. |

| Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin (Occult academy, I just loved this story, but it seems like no one else did!) Fractale (this was a series that I got really into, but some others didn't really enjoy it as much as I did) Those are the ones I can think of. I saw lower scores on reviews as well as when you discuss the anime with others. However, I enjoyed these anime and gave them much higher scores! |

| I agree that the score for Aku no hana is completely skewed because of disappointed manga fans. For people like me who never read the manga and didn't have such expectations in place, it was a fairly interesting watch. |
