According to Yomiuri Newspaper, the town of Kotoura in Tottori prefecture has been collaborating with the Kotoura-san manga and anime since last year to promote their tourism. Posters, goods, and original Kotoura-san manga introducing the special products of the town have been sold at the Kotoura Tourism Association office.

After the beginning of the TV series, the name card sets featuring Kotoura-san have been flying off the shelves and the tourist bureau of the town is planning more collaboration projects. Although Kotura is not the model town of Kotoura-san, the author decided to title the manga after the town.

One key data is that while 19400 copies of the name card were sold in the six months before the anime started, in the one month after the anime aired it sold 27100 copies, so the monthly sales of the name card jumped NINE TIMES after the anime started.

The news article also mentioned fans who took overnight train from Tokyo to visit this remote town Kotoura. Truly amazing thing.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Good idea - more money for the town, some PR for the town.
Nice that they are going for it, especially when it doesn't seem to be expensive thing to do.

It worked with Takehara and Tamayura or that city in Hanasaku Iroha, so why not follow it.

Well done :)

Glad that another dark horse (like GirlPan last season) is attracting fans to local tourism :)
I'd probably go for a visit if I lived in Japan.
I probably regret this post by now.

I hope this translates into BD sales! I have preordered the first few already, will do the rest when it gets closer so I don't have to keep redoing my orders (why doesn't amazon have an add-to-order option???).

Damn, someone already referenced the "Hanasaku Iroha" effect.

But anyway, nice to hear! Hopefully this will inspire more productivity and such.

Another great example of how anime can influence the economy (obviously only Japan's but you get the idea).

I actually wondered if there was a place called Kotoura after the last episode. Nice to hear in any case.

Wonder what's the big deal. There was nothing in the show that was any different from any other town. Just a school and a street.

I see productplacement potential for future towns that want to boost their tourism:p
Maybe towns will stand in line with manga and anime to get their town used as a model

You forgot Kotoura's appartement...

No, but seriously, I can understand why it happened for GuP since we saw during a tank fight what the city looked like, but for Kotoura-san, meh.

I thought the title of this article was that terrorists attacked a town that's the setting in an anime haha...

.....that'd be a lot more interesting at least.

Nice PR posters. It says you can get them if you visit that town now. It would surely attract tourists.

I checked Kotoura Newsletter. Gee, they hire native English speakers as TAs for English class. Must be fun to live there.

You forgot the home town of Kotoura-san IS KOTOURA-CHOU (you can see it in the train station in the latest episode). Perhaps the English sub did not translate that? Or people miss it when watching the show??

Besides, as the initial post said, the author got the name for Kotoura-san by picking the name from the name of the town. So it is only natural that he agrees with the town's proposal of using the manga for a collaboration project to boost local tourism. NOW THAT IS THE BIG DEAL - How often did you see collaboration coming from this kind of back story??

Wow. This is pretty interesting. I wonder how the people of the town feel about all of the business though.
