Uhhh... all I can say is WOW.
That was definitely an interesting episode.. I wonder what the rest of the series is like O_O
On the DVD (which is what I'm watching) the first episode shown is Episode 00 and it's the amateur movie that Haruhi makes with Mikuru as the battle waitress. Very funny episode. I watched this with both the Japanese audio/English subs and the English dub with the subs still on. I have to say it's probably the best dub I've seen so far although I haven't seen near as much anime as a lot of people on MAL. At least on this episode, the narrator's English voice actor really did well imo and it added to the show. And the English phrases the used to make it sound more like common English didn't change the meaning of the original Japanese at all. I've seen some dubs where they seemed to put in sentences that were completely different and even changed the meaning of the scene. I'll probably keep watching this both subbed and dubbed since it's a short series.

Yeah, going into this show with an already biased opinion, based on what I've heard. Um, and the plot. (Probably not smart.) But, this episode was actually quite funny! ^^
the first episode is hard to take in but later on after watching the series it becomes really good lol
when i first watched it was put off by the animation. i like my eye candy lol but eventually watched the rest. also the fixed 4:3 aspect ratio (?) tricked me when i was rewatching ep 1 even though i knew it was the sos movie lol
I almost went over to the friend of mine that recommended to me to ask if he was clinically insane. Though I must admit, it was a really interesting choice for an opening episode. After watching a few 'real' episodes I found myself going back to watch it, and laughing at the little things the characters did that showed their true personalities.
It was interesting that's putting it mildly lol. No I was wondering if I had the right series and then i started noticing that it was obviously "filmed" it was an neat way to start and hooked my attention right away.
Lol so funny, combat waitress sounds so funny and the special effects during the "battle" scenes cracked me up. This is sure gonna be one hell of a unique and completely weird show.
i thought that this show would be retarded after reading the synopsis, but i was bored and found the first ep hilarious... i also noticed that the voice actor of kyon sounds like sakata gintoki from gintama, come to find out, they are the same voices (gintama is more funny though).
When I saw this the first time, I was totally dumbfounded. xD Must be the funniest opening episode ever!
I enjoyed it even more after watching the rest of the show in chronological order... :3 Because there are so many references you can't possibly understand before that.
Weird Episode! It took me about 5-6months before I continued to watch the 2nd and the rest of the episodes. And there I realized that it is such a good anime... its just the first episode that was kinda weird.

I actually watched Episode 2 (broadcast)/01 (on US DVD) first, because I thought, "No way could this be the first episode of the show...there's no exposition!" After watching it, I feel like it's a spoiler for the rest of the show. (I'm only on chronological episode 5, but I'm going to convert to broadcast order for a better "emotional punch.")
Which episode are we discusing here? 1 or 00? I watched 00 anyway... :P
at first I was like WTF am I watching?! lol xD
but when the creepy quality video ended I realised why it was like that and Haruhi turning around like this in that scene was really amazing! :P yay

funny how they play with the visual quality, first anime I see that uses this kind of transition when they compare an anime movie and the anime itsel
Hahaha I loved this episode xD Honestly,. this was the first Episode I watched in the Suzumiya Haruhi series,. the first time I saw it all i could think about was "WTF did I just watched" then did some research and things and saw that the anime wasn't broadcasted in the chronological order. So then I watched in the the chronological order and loved it that way,. then finally watching this episode (11 in the chronologiacal order and 00 in the Broadcast) again I clearly understood what was happening and everything was just funny :D Feels really wierd to have watched this and thought "WTF??!" to "Funny and good episode xD" 5/5 for me! =)
Not fond of Mikuru's dub voice (I haven't watched in Japanese yet). It reminds me of Patricia Martin's in Lucky Star... which is probably why they had her be Mikuru at the café, come to think of it. (Aside from the seiyuu connection between Haruhi and Konata, and that extra doing a pretty good Yuki.)
Okay, I guess refrigerators are electric, but aren't those usually considered appliances rather than electronics?
