For manga there are 3 different status Finished, Publishing, and Not Yet Published. But there are a lot of titles "On Hiatus" like X, and Glass Mask, and several others. It would be nice to have that as a status also.

[edit]
There is also a club created by Maora to show to show support.

Mod Edit: Modified title for clarity and/or easier searching.

X has been on hiatus for over 5yrs. I've listed it as finished as its unlikely Kadokawa will reverse their decision to no longer publish it - especially after recent events in Akihabara. "On Hiatus" doesn't suit X at least

I was just thinking of some titles that I knew that were on hiatus, the point there is that the status of such could be useful.

yup... Akuma to Dolce has been on hiatus since forever~ (Julietta Suzuki is working on soo many series.. >>) I think it should be right to put a "hiatus" status on it. Just to remind people that it isn't publishing, nor completed yet.

I support this to. Immortal Rain has been on hiatus for 2 years, but it's marked as finished on MAL.

Yeah this would be nice. Finished or not, "hiatus" status would make it clear that certain manga don't have an ending and some of us don't like reading something we don't know isn't going to be completed any time soon, like Immortal Rain and (not anymore) D.N.Angel was.

May as well throw in a 'Discontinued' status for the stuff confirmed to be unfinished...

True... Like Itazura na Kiss won't be finishing any day. so 'discontinued' will fit it better rather than 'hiatus'.

I agree with both this and the "hiatus" idea.

It would also be really handy to be notified when the status of a "hiatus" series changes.

Supported.

This is a really good idea, with the fact that a lot of manga (and anime) are on haitus for the time being.

Yup, Sugar Princess is on Hiatus... but Glass Mask is about to finally come out of Hiatus after 4 years, according to ANN :D

This idea couldn't hurt, and I guess it wouldn't require too much work either. I support it.
Your search on "Oran Solus" returned the following quotes:
"Oran Solus? I know him. What a wanker. He still owes me a tenner." Oscar Wilde
"Oran, you're so intelligent and awesome <3" Bakayaro
"Oran's sexy." LolitaDecay
"Oran is a sophisticated penguin." Drybananna
"Oran is a Hand-Eye you faggots." EddieSpaghetti
"Oran for Prime Minister." the_prime_one
"Oran is all that is stated in his sig and more." orbitzz

I support this... so many mangas are on hiatus it hurts, but yeah people should be aware whether a manga is on hiatus or not.

MAL staff should also change all users who has series on hiatus from "completed" to "reading" since the series was just on a break.

for Discontinued, it'd be okay (as long as there are no plans for continuation with a differ manga-ka)

EDIT:// lol <3

imo, that's pointless. Just leave it on your "On Hold" list or something. S'what I do, really no harm. :D

Hell no, it's not pointless at all.

Yes, there should be much order with the manga status. It's absurd only because a manga is on hiatus MAL says it's finished.

This is a good idea. Magic Kaito is known to be on hiatus and it's listed as finished.

Also Last Client is listed as finished when it's been on hiatus because of the manga-ka's lawsuit.

I support this idea too. I would add discontinued too, throught it´s like completed, because it will never continue, but it bugs me, to read something without an end, and I would like to dodge these. Like fire candy and zombie powder. But that isn´t so important, important is "on hiatus", so I support this.

Support from me for both ideas.

Seriously, let's face it, there are so many different series that are 'on hiatus' for long periods of time, but they do get continued on. If someone has it on their completed list when it finally comes back to being published, what kind of havoc will that cause to the programs running the database?

And look at discontinued series like Pretty Face, Fire Candy and lots of others. The mangaka clearly states that the magazine has stopped them, but if they get the chance, they will happily continue them and finish them. So then again, maybe discontinued isn't the only option.

Maybe a third option should also be "forced indefinite hiatus"?

Lol.

I do recommend people join the club since if there are more people behind the idea the more likely Xinil will implement it.

I definitely support this idea! My priority to read a series or whether I pick it up at all would change drastically if I knew it was on hiatus.

The "On Hiatus" status must absolutely be added for manga, I don't get why this important distinction is being ignored. There are a lot of series on hiatus, sadly.

There should probably be a status for some series that can reflect this, because they are being incorrectly labeled as finished or still publishing. This would apply mainly to manga, such as "DNAngel" or "Akuma to Dolce".
"Forged in darkness with wheat harvested from Hell's half acre. Baked by Beelzabub; slathered with mayonnaise beaten from the evil eggs of dark chickens, force-fed to dogs by the hands of a one-eyed madman. Cheese boiled from the rancid utters of fanged cows. Layered with 666 separate meats from an animal which has maggots for blood."

I'd also probably not even bother to start a manga marked Discontinued, and would be grateful for being saved from the never-to-be-resolved cliffhanger or cobbled-together-half-assed ending that would almost certainly be waiting for me.

I joined the support club for this some time ago, it sort of surprises me that I never wrote in the thread too.

On Hiatus/Discontinued status for manga would be very useful, and more accurate and informative than the statuses some series are currently wedged into.

I'm suggesting "Discontinued" as a choice for the status instead of just "Finished" or "Publishing" so readers know the manga will no longer be continued.

Completed would make more sense to me, because you'd be at the end of what's going to be published.

Support. As I really hate seeing one of the manga's I own that I'll never be able to finish under On Hold. Stingy me refuses to file it under completed, cause it would drive me nuts saying I only read x amount of vol. cause it was never finished publishing.
