This looks like nice older anime I've been missing all the time. I wonder why there's no TV version.
I bet it's main issue is in its short playtime and lack in number of episodes to fully show characters interactions.
( Currently interested in OP MC genre. Recommendations are welcomed, preferable those yet not on my list )

This is just awesome! Has this really classic feeling to it and an interesting setting/concept as well! Let's see what the other episodes have to offer but boy do I like it already!

The thing I'm most impressed by is the highly detailed and accurate drawings of his video equipment. Hell, even his remote control had every single function individually labeled.

How it is possible I haven't heard about it till now? This is great, maybe even amazing. And while this is only the first episode, I feel I will miss this anime when it ends.

I really like how they made the beginning look like a grainy VHS tape. But much like the protagonist i am a bit off-put by her sudden change in personality. But I'll still watch. And for those watching this anime now, let me tel ya they not only have a live action movie of this show but they even have a live action drama show happening right now in 2018 I cant believe it.

This felt so pure and romantic, I have a feeling that this will become a favorite of mine! I love, love, love romance stories about heartbreak and finding new love in unexpected places. And a Video Girl popping out of your TV screen is definitely unexpected! Lol

Oh man I sound like a teenage girl when I get excited about romances lmao But good anime romances are hard to find. And the fact that it's so retro makes me even more excited

Ahh, the animation in this show is so good it heals my soul. For just 20 minutes, I can escape the heart-crushing reality of the rampant bad CGI and poor art quality of modern anime. I guess people weren't kidding about the quality of art in old anime OVAs.

Her crawling out the TV might have inspired The Ring movies

I was expecting something a bit more like chobits, I'm kind of glad the video girl has the personality she has. This is one of the first Production I.G. anime.

That was cute and a lot better than I was expecting it to be after I read the plot description. Also I liked the bit at the end parodying "informative" extras that were often at the end of anime laserdiscs at the time. But I'm not really fan of some of the character designs (what is the deal with the big wings on Takeshi's hair? jeez) and I also didn't like that the preview section had a few seemingly huge spoilers in it.

I would find it more likely that her coming out of the TV was inspired by the novel that Japanese Ring movies are based on, which came out about a year before this OVA. Also this is not one of the first Production I.G. pieces, it's technically an I.G. Tatsunoko production, which is technically a different company, even though it's mostly the same people, and they had been around under that name since 1987.

Oh this was great! Didn't expect to like it this much. Takayuki Goto's designs are fantastic.

I.G Tatsunoko is just their old name. It's really the same company.
From their own website:
Started as the joint collaboration of visionary production manager Mitsuhisa Ishikawa and popular character designer Takayuki Goto, the company was established on December 15, 1987 as I.G Tatsunoko, a name bearing the initials of its founders as well as the renowned studio they were from. The new company met with success and in 1993 its founders renamed it Production I.G. Since then, the studio has enjoyed yearly growth in sales and size.

I loved the bittersweet, melancholic tone that seemed to hang over the otherwise upbeat episode. The characters are charming enough to not be annoying to me, and honestly the romance stuff it's building up, while seeming pretty standard right now, I think still works. Looking forward to where it goes in the rest of the OVA and manga.

Finally began this after i knew about its existence since late 2006, from ads pages into other mangas that i bought back then and still from the 90's, or the home video release of the anime itself in stores. Sort of predictable plot beginning, but the limited amount of episodes, the expiration date thing for the actual video girl (even if i don't consider her all that attractive looks wise) and some unexpected traits of her personality can make all of this interesting to continue. That introduction... seriously, i can see my past self - when still not totally 100% disillusioned about social life in general - answering to all of her questions... and cringe hard again in the present thinking about it. Nice after credits scene, including the fact that she doesn't take the parody of her lightly and hits him.

real purdy art but why is it that every 80s/90s romcoms have fucking pathetic protagonists??
