From reading what that website posted, it looks like Haruhi 2 (for lack of a better name) isn't going to be a continuation of the first season? It looks like it's going to take place in an alternate timeline where the characters don't know each other and the plot starts over again from the beginning.

Well, that is an oversimplfied explanation of the plot of novel 4, which is what I was under the impression this second season was supposed to be to begin with.

That's why I don't get this sudden revelation of "NO SEASON TWO, ARGH!" because unless something has changed in the last week (not December), everything is going exactly as it was supposed to. Next season will follow the plot of "The Dissappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi", not follow up with the storyline immediatly as it ended in season 1, or follow the second novel, whichever you'd consider "next" given the nature of this series.

And I wouldn't call the long hair a "new" style since she had long hair at the beginning of season 1. But I agree the medium-length hair was better.

This.

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya's (doesn't that sound kinda epic?) plot as far as Wikipedia understands it is as follows:

On one hand, I wish I hadn't spoiler'd myself; on the other than, I still think it will be very, very interesting and I'm really looking forwards to this.

One thing I liked about the fourth novel is Yuki being more emotional than the other books. You kinda get a Kyon x Yuki vibe at some points.

well, if they do base it off of Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, then thats basically a sequel, unless they dont plan on making the connection... regardless, i really liked the yuki-based time/space paradoxes used in the novels at around this point...

im really looking foward to this

Finally they make a sequel... but aren't there 10 volumes in the whole series of manga? How would they be able to make all of them??? This better be as good as Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, even though that will be very, very hard to do.
Some will come, some will go
Some will be wrong, some will be right
Some cannot think, while others will know

The 10th volume of the light novel is not out yet. Given the fact that there are quite a lot of content (other than just the 4th novel itself) not aired on the first season it is highly unlikely that they will put the rest on the second season.

How is it that two people were allowed to rate this 10s when it hasn't been released yet? It must be a glitch or something.

the site goes through.. i believe.. nightly and erases all scores for shows that have not yet aired. at least, it's supposed to, i've never prerated before so i've never actually seen it erase scores.

10? I think since it some people have read the novels, they have judged it to show some from the novels and thoroughly enjoy them.

Eh, I don't know... A remake, but no S2. I would hope that it is still a go for S2 at some point. Because, if not, then the storyline has a rather odd ending.

I dont like the idea of cancelling season 2 and coming out with 2 different versions. People enjoyed the 1st season for what it was and now its going to be different. Its still better than no season at all, but I'd rather have season 2 than 2 different versions.

They didn't cancel S2, they just clarified that season 2 will not be an axact follow up to the last episode of season 1, which is how its supposed to be.

Because that would be extremely lazy on their part? Japan doesn't do lazy - its not what they do. Almost everything that is thought up of and worked upon is privy to a team of several people working their backsides off in order to provide the best possible product; because that's how its meant to be.

And it should apply to this series as well.

Kinda like you two not reading the rest of the replies in this thread? Because if your had, you would have seen where it is pointed out by more than one person that the second season isn't "canceled" and that they are, in fact, following the novels. The only reason they said it was canceled was to keep people from thinking it was going to be a follow up to season 1's storyline, which they would have to do to follow the novels.

well, i'm fine with it.

Sticking to the basic idea of the light novels is a great idea. it would confuse the hell out of those who haven't read them, but then again the 1st season was confusing as hell to anyone who saw it the first time and didn't read some sort of synopsis before hand. so really theres no difference.

Personally, the fact that characters don't change clothes and (sometimes) hairstyles on a day to day basis annoys me. granted some shows don't need that realism, but it helps.

Most of the series takes place at school. They have uniforms so they can't exactly pick their clothes. On the episodes where they weren't at school they did dress differently (except for Yuki).

Hehe. But with Haruhi, anyone comments about it she will probably just kick them like she did when the Computer Club talked to them at the S.O.S. Brigade door. (Falcon Kick)

Nobody is thinking this through~ the first season was the Melancholy. The fourth novel, which they're mainly adapting, is called the Disappearance. So, KyoAni is just joking around when they say that the second season of The Melancholy was canceled~ since they're making Disappearance, they're really just joking about it, as that can be called the 'new' Haruhi. In regards to air date~ April 2008, perhaps?

NOOOO where are Yuki's glasses?!?!? Grrr...... possible deal-breaker for me...

I've always disliked Haru/Mikuru (as far as type/looks, I enjoy the anime don't get me wrong), and liked Yuki... but without glasses,,, and now that haruhi has long hair, starting to like her! nooooooooooo! Yuki get your glasses back!!!

edit: I'd ask if this is for sure yet, but knowing this series, they have been trying to be all mysterious and uninformative, which really is a lame marketing tactic, but enough of the sheeple fall for it. It's like the "lazy-man's way to market your product" but works for a major hit like this. If it were more mediocre they wouldn't get away with it.

because that would be too ordinary, Haruhi does not approve of ordinary!!!!! No seriously though i think its a like a gimmick thing, the entire franchise cant be copied down its spread across different things to generate attention and make it feel more real, they want you to believe Haruhi is real....... and NO im not high lmao XD

i have no idea why they would redo a great show, and i can't even fathom their decision that "they can't just do" the second season
i'm not saying the new show will be a bust, but i really wanted character progression from where we left off
and i doubt the long hair on haruhi is permanent, i bet it's just like how she started with long hair, or it could be a drawing of when she's younger
