I think the question is self-explanatory, but to make it a little more clear I'm talking about filler episodes that have nothing really to do with the actual arc the cerrtain anime is in.
So personally before I started watching the real big fish (One Piece and Conan) I mostly skipped filler episodes, especially because the first filler I stumbled upon was FMAB episode 27 and only a recap, thus I thought all filler were as "usless" as that filler.
While watching Black Clover, I then only realised not every filler is as usless as the FMAB filler and with One Piece I didn't skip a single filler and only recap parts. (I watched Op really fast and didn't need the recaps, because I saw the actual scene a week before).

At the moment I'm watching Meitantei Conan, and this anime has more than 400 filler episodes, but I'm still watching them all, in contrast I saw someone talk about skipping all filler episodes and only after finishing the anime, they maybe watch the filler episodes they skipped.
How do you handle filler? Skip all filler or only some certain type?

If I'm watching a show for the first time then I watch it in full from start to finish no matter what, but if I'm rewatching then it depends. Last time I rewatched bleach for example I had to skip all the filler eps due to the friend I was rewatching it with.

I usually watch fillers even if most of them aren't good because: 1) there are always exceptions 2) I don't watch anime with fillers that often in the first place (I already read the manga of the most filler-riddled anime adaptations like Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach and I don't plan to watch them)

The only times I skipped the fillers were with World Trigger and Eyeshield 21; I watched them years later and I can confirm I didn't miss anything worthwhile.

If it adds to a series in a logical way and doesn't shoe horn its way right in the middle of the story (looking at you Naruto). Its got to be faithful to the world and themes while following the rules of said story. Detective Conan for example does it well because the theme of the show is solving crimes/problems and that's what the filler does. (also feel Detective Conan is a show that doesn't want to end.) Filler shouldn't make you feel like your on a pointless detour keeping you from the show, it needs to feel like part of the show you came to see. I only skip filler when it feels like a low quality bootleg spin-off, and strays from the world, narrative, & themes that your watching the show for or if its just boring.

Yes, Because I rate everything I watch, and I can't accurately rate a show If haven't seen the whole show. And good or bad, filler is part of the anime and will affect my rating.

I'm pretty fine with filler episodes. I just watch episode to episode. What's the hurry, anyway?

I just watch fillers, for reasons which are not particularly interesting.

As for recaps, I skip around first to see if there's any sort of additional content or worthwhile commentary by one of the characters or what have you, then decide whether to watch it or not.

I usually don't watch filler. Though sometimes if it is a single episode, they might do something like mix filler in with actual content so you can't really skip it.

The problem with filler is that by its nature, it can never be relevant to the plot. Nothing that happens in filler really matters, because once they go back to the source material they kind of have to ignore the filler. Even if they shoehorn it in somehow, it would only ever just be "there" and not contributing in a meaningful way. If they changed the filler to actually be meaningful, then it isn't a faithful adaptation to the source material anyway, so whatever.

As an example of what I mean, look at Card Captor Sakura. Meiling is a filler character, she doesn't exist in the source material. Because of that, you know she can never actually play an important role in the story (only in her filler episodes) and you know her relationship with Syaoran is meaningless and won't go anywhere, because again, she was never there to begin with.
So what do they do when they want to start getting back to the main story and stop dragging the series out? They write her out of the story. She goes home to Hong Kong. They might mention her a couple times, and maybe she will return for a single episode at some point, but that is it. The only purpose her character served, was to drag out the number of episodes.
And many people consider her to be an example of good filler. So you can imagine what bad filler is like.

In modern days though, there aren't many filler arcs any more. Most series are much shorter so there is no reason to try to drag it out. So you'll only get an episode or 2 of filler, like for example in say Make Heroine ga Oosugiru, and they will instead call them "Anime Original" episodes instead of filler.

Yes, I do the same as you. I only skip the recaps. Even still if OP will come with a recap i will skip it, since it isn't long since it happend imo.
This is only tho if I will watch the show for the first time tho, during rewatch I will skip them, if they are not remotely relevant

as a completionist I watch evey episode of every anime I start. even filler as that's nothing bad, just more stuff to watch that isn't as relevant to the plot which is not a bad thing all the time

I never skip filler episodes. Watching them helps me get to know and feel more connected to the characters, and lets me see content exclusive to the anime. I might skip some recap episodes, only watching the non-recap parts within them.

When I first started watching anime I watched all fillers for the anime cause I didn't know any better. After my first few anime watched I began skipping all fillers.

Of course. Part of the show. Even if it doesn't progress the overall plot, you get to know the characters a bit better.

Not even sure how you know which episodes will be filler. Sure, I can look it up, but that ruins the show for me; I don't want to know what happens in the next episode before watching it.

Sometimes yes, if it's recapping or the plot sounds semi interesting to me. So I will say as a rule of thumb I usually skip them, unless I'm that bored. 😪

Fuck yeah I watch "filler". If one is a real fan of any fucking franchise, skipping filler is like being handed your ideal trophy wife, that you have always lusted after, and only ever trying to stick the tip of your cock inside her pussy when having sex. Like… come on, if someone actually has lust for something that badly, they are not going to half cock the shit. lol

Filler episodes are basically the weird cotton candy stand at a freak show carnival of your favorite series. Sure, it’s not the main fucking event you came for, but sometimes it’s spun sugar shit with unexpected rainbow sprinkles that makes your brain go, “oh fuck, I didn’t know I needed this shit”. lol

Watching any series and ignoring filler is like buying a fully furnished mansion but never stepping foot in the study, attic, basement, or even the guest rooms... where sometimes the attic has treasure maps, secret diaries, and even a cool looking taxidermy raccoon with a hard-on. lol

Basically, if you claim to be a hardcore fan of some franchise but skip "filler", it’s like saying you love ice cream but only eat the chocolate chips and leave the vanilla behind. lol

@DesuMaiden Nothing, but if you binch a series and there is a recap about something you watched the day before it's just "usless".

I watch filler episodes. It does feel wrong to declare that a show is completed but I haven't watched every episode. Also, while filler usually has lower quality scripts compared to the canon episodes, they can be entertaining. What I find really tough to do is watch recaps that are baked into the episode count. The recaps are only good if I forget the shows which is not possible if I am watching a series back to back. They could be useful if I pause the series for a couple of years and pick it up just before the recap episode but that rarely ever happens (what's rare is me pausing a series for more than 6-8 months or pausing it at the right time i.e. before the recap episode).

Yes I watch them, they are very good sometimes!
I need somebody who can love me at my worst
No, I'm not perfect, but I hope you see my worth
'Cause it's only you, nobody new, I put you first
And for you, girl, I swear I'll do the worst

If you stay forever, let me hold your hand
I can fill those places in your heart no else can
Let me show you love, oh, I don't pretend, yeah
I'll be right here, baby, you know I'll sink or swim
