Kaseki’s face when he crossed the ravine was pure joy. Out of all the characters, it’s really nice to see him go from small-time crafting to doing so well in this new world. On the other hand, Max is a terrible bodyguard... letting Suika fall like that was inexcusable. Thankfully, Kohaku saved her at the very last second, and Hyouga showed he’s truly loyal to the mission.

And seriously, who would've thought the Medusa was just a massive pile of those things all along. That scene looked actually surreal. There were so many, shit probably enough to arm an unstoppable army. Absolutely wild. The first explanation that comes to mind is the nanite theory, they must be self-replicating. No way that many existed before the petrification event without anyone noticing.

Human relationships are weird!

Man, if Chelsea isn't my spirit animal 🤣 no relationship chart needed either. (Especially one with so many kills. Pfft.)

I think we have the riddle with uh... lettuce and sheep and wolf over here. Regional variations are fun.

A ropeway, rubber boots and even a waterslide. All these mini missions inbetween and teamwork are still so fun to watch. Really a great example of a series that's more about the journey than the destination.

But nonetheless epic that they've finally reached ground zero.

Kohaku being able to jump that far is unreal, even Gen doesn't believe it.
It's nice how they showed the solution to that river riddle at the end of the episode!

Also, the group was worried Hyouga would join forces with Xeno, and would end up betraying them, especially after Kohaku had to save Suika, but to their surprise he actually helped them. Of course he did, Hyouga is a good boy now, don't even know why they tought that.

The way they built that rope so fast was a bit unreal, but what bothered me the most was the Rubber boots, WHEN DID THEY DO THAT? I know this anime as been throwing these kind of things for a while now in the most recent seasons, but this isn't even the case of just doing things too quickly or easily, they just straight up didn't have the materials for that, since they didn't show Senku making them when they did the tires. Like, I don't know, I feel like this only makes the anime more and more unbelievable, which is a shame, because in the 1st season this barely happened, and in this 4th season happens almost every episode.
I thought I was getting used to it, but apparentaly not to this extent.

Anyways, it seems our group found the source of the petrification beam, with Suika finding one Medusa in the river, but to the surprise of the group, they would find many more... A pyramid of them to be exact, I would say millions of them. It's crazy. There's no way they can get an advantage against Stanley with this, because he could easily just grab one too.

But seeing they are there for so long now, it's probable that the diamond core in them isn't giving them any energy (and they were also used for a big really area, and we saw what happened to the group's Medusa after that happened).

I'm really excited for the rest of the season now, because it seems we are finally going to get down for business.

@PokefanPT

Honestly, showing the production of the rubber boots would've felt redundant. Sure, they could've adressed it briefly that they made them before or something. Just about anything would've worked to justify it at this point. But it's not like there's really a need for that either since this series always required massive suspension of disbelief, even by it's own standards. I just take it that they were prepared.

Ah yesss... My first ever Dr.Stone 'currently-airing' episode after catching up to the anime since it first aired in 2019!

The Science Kingdom has many individuals who each have their unique God-level specialities. However, among the likes of Tsukasa, Yuzuriha and Taiju, Kohaku's is the most broken because she's capable of so many things.
In an RPG levelling schematics, Tsukasa might be rated 100 for combat or Taiju rated 100 for strength & endurance, but Kohaku got all her skills at a flat 85/10,0, excluding her extremely clear vision that no other characters could match. Though not the best in the specific category, she excels in combat, hunting instinct, scientific intuition, handcrafting, reconnaissance, swimming, running and most certainly jumping. Here she is jumping across that chasm with just a makeshift jump ramp. That's why she deserves the spot as the Science Kingdom's queen.

Welp, thanks to Kohaku, they all managed to cross the chasm together, that includes the crazy clutch she did when she saved Suika from falling, Max and Carlos should've done more to secure Suika ffs. Meanwhile, everyone is hating on my Boy Hyoga for the most appropriate of reasons, but at this point, Hyoga pretty much has already accepted his fate. If they succeed in reviving modern society, he's bound to be tried one way or another. Such is the consequence of his actions.

The thigh-high boots look awesome on the guys and particularly cute on the gals, specifically Luna, damn girl. I would mention that wearing those boots must make them sweat due to no circulation, but then again, they're in the humid Amazon, so they must already be sweating bullets. All is well since the last stretch is a cruise down the river on a bunch of makeshift rafts. That waterslide fan service was so out of place considering their circumstances lol.

Well, their voyage around the world has allowed them to reach the most thought-provoking destination of all. The epicentre of the Global petrification event from 3700 years ago! There can never be a modern society with the presence of Why-Man's potentially impending petrification beams. And here lies the truth of the catastrophe. Not one, not a handful, but a whole mountain of Medusas. Millions to maybe billions of devices lie there at the heart of the Amazon rain forest. An everlasting, glimmering monument, a symbol of the sickening calamity that it brought to humanity, looming over the horizon like a beautiful menace...

This Medusa mountain is one of my favourite parts of the manga, which includes the manga panel that showcases the mountain looming over the Amazonian horizon. I got goosebumps when I saw it the first time around. To think that the petrification beams were showering the earth in countless waves continuously, all at once, to ensure humanity's petrification... A horrifying thought to bear.

For those who have never tried it, jackfruit (also known as jaca) is one of the tastiest and sweetest fruits you’ll ever try. It’s a very popular fruit, along with mango trees, here in Brazil.

The creative way that Senku and the other are able to solve always entertains me. Making a ropeway that crosses the mountains is up there with their more brave creations, but it did work out really well. The winds which did blow Suika off did make me panic, but Kohaku's quick thinking saved her life. Thank goodness for that! ^^;

Other creations like bug repellent and rubber boots makes their journey through the Amazon more bearable until, at last, the group finally arrives at the true source of the worldwide petrification. If one Medusa is super powerful, then a whole Mayan/Aztec-style temple's worth of Medusa would make anyone go speechless, like it did with the whole group.

I expect the next episode will go into overdrive into finding out more about this place and how it played its part in petrifying the whole world. It should be a really good one, hopefully!

Holy shit that ending! After all these years of following Dr. Stone, we’re finally on the cusp of learning the truth about petrification. The fact someone made a pyramid out of petrification devices is just evil. It’s almost as if they wanted to mock one of humanity’s greatest accomplishments. Not accidental at all, but why?

The rest of the episode leading up to that was amazing as usual. The way everyone was worried about Hyoga betraying them and working with Stanley just for him to save Kohaku lol. Give my guy a little more credit! Chelsea continues to be funny af with her random interjections, she’s so over the top I love her, and the rain boot development was a great idea as well. Traversing the Amazon would be a NIGHTMARE to me as someone who hates bugs, thankfully they have a Senku who knew to make a repellant.

Kinda didn’t want the travel journey to end because I just enjoy seeing the cast together and overcoming obstacles with Senku’s science !

I don’t know why I was imagining a more high-tech gondola—Senkuu built something simple and functional, no frills. It was actually pretty realistic. What wasn’t realistic was Kohaku’s jump across the abyss… that was wild.

And what a way to end the episode—such an impactful moment. A pyramid made of Medusas… no wonder it was so easy for Whyman to petrify the entire planet.

I know Kohaku is acrobatic and can do some wild jumps but even that jump shook my suspension of disbelief. Like yeah, it's ok when it's in an action scene or when they're traveling in a montage or something. But when she does a singular jump like that it reminds you of just how ridiculous it is.

I actually loved the ropeway and how DIY it looked. They didn't have time so obviously they couldn't add any safety features. And they showed that with Suika of all people nearly falling to death in that fucking abyss. Good thing Kohaku was there. Also, it seems like Hyoga really is a good guy now. Didn't expect anything different. But Ig it could be interesting with a betrayal twist later on.

Ah. It's the famous riddle. Heard of it many times since I was a kid. But the version I heard had a tiger, a goat, and some other vegetable instead. Ig it differs by culture. It really must be an ancient riddle. Almost felt proud of myself for remembering the answer all these years later lol.

I had no idea/forgot that South America had jackfruits. That's kinda cool. I wonder if they taste different from the South Asian ones. According to a quick search, it's not native to South America. It's kinda cool to see a fruit that I usually associate with my own region randomly show up here in this context.

That mountain of Medusas look like an Aztec pyramid... That was such a cool but strange sight. Imagine coming across this structure without any context. People would become so confused. I wonder if Senku and the others were never depetrified how many thousands of years it would've taken humanity to go back to the level of the 21st century. And if they'd think the mass petrification was a real historical event or a legend cause most of the stone structures would probably be destroyed or buried for a long time and might become a distant memory.

Ngl Kohaku in those thigh high boots is making me feel a certain type of way lol, also Kohaku and Luna in swimsuits was a nice touch during the water slide bit. Fanservice aside, this was a very big episode because of where it ended off, the gang finally arriving at the origin point of the stone wave, and while the sight was pretty, it was also terrifying, the sight being what looks like a pyramid made of Medusas. Honestly not what I was expecting it to look like, but damn this must mean Why Man REALLY wanted humanity to get stoned, he took Rainy Day Women a bit too seriously I think lol. Quite the spooky discovery but also a very cool one, I’m excited to see the gang explore the area, and also what Stanley is cooking up because evidently making it to the jungle didn’t completely ruin his chances of catching them.

Rest of the episode was pretty much more traveling across South America, a lot of good moments throughout, the ropeway turned out to be pretty cool, and it also included a scare of Suika going off the cliff, but thankfully Kohaku was quick with the rescue. And the relationship chart was pretty funny, so much has happened that you’d almost forget some of the current gang used to be enemies, but they’re all one great team now. I also liked that they mentioned how dangerous the Amazon Rainforest is, they dealt with the dangers quickly but I appreciate that Stanley being on their trail didn’t deviate from how deadly nature can be.

So the cause of petrification this whole time was a giant pyramid of devices. My face was pretty much the same as Senku's at the end there.

Also we get the classic "explaining all the weird group dynamics to the newcomer" scene. Always hilarious when that happens.

@OtakuKun1 I just read the Witch Watch chapter that has that puzzle, because I'm still 3+ weeks behind, weird coincidence. I forget the exact solution, it's supposedly not just one, but it also depends on particulars. Like you'd first take the chicken, but then you have to go very specific and take the sheep back, then bring the corn over to the other side after you've brought the fox over to the sheep side and leave it there to bring the corn. My head's spinning a bit, even if it's not nearly the most complex version

I forgot that minor detail with Kohaku and Suika in the chart, which maybe should've been phrased a bit differently, since otherwise it makes Kohaku seem like she's robbing the cradle with Suika, though they're not that far apart in age. She looks to Suika like a little sister, the only other hearts we see are people who arguably are about a romantic relationship, Max and Marco to Luna and Luna to Senkuu.

No, no, this is not how the episode just before the revelation about the epicenter of the petrification should look like. It shouldn't be: recap, reactions, recap, "Oh, thank Stanley for taking his time", materializing stuff out of thin air, reactions, "Oh, yep. We're here. Wow, so sickening yet beautiful."

The pacing is sickeningly fast yet not even beautiful and the episode is brimming over with fantasies. Terrible for an anime whose protagonist said he'd beat fantasy with science in its very first episode. I'll go over some topics ruining the episode.

Kohaku's Great Leap Forward
Being thrown onto a cliff hundreds of meters away by a jerry-built stick with two tires attached to it. This is impossible. A scrawny girl weighing only 52 kg can't have the potential energy required to launch herself over such distance relying only on her weight for force. Moreover, the two tires were vulcanized so that they were durable and rigid against the rough terrain and they can't be elastic the way they are.

Senku's Rubberbending
Senku popping out various things made of rubber instantly as though it's as simple as making a campfire. Well, it's not. Let's assume he can find natural rubber in the Amazon, fine. For vulcanization, he needs sulfur, which, though not likely, we can assume he obtained from Japan and carried throughout all the journey. However, he also needs some chemicals without which the process takes hours to get done. They can't be carrying all these things around.

I'm not even mentioning Kohaku's stunts, moving motorbikes through Andean terrain and whatnot. For those who may object that this is anime logic or shounen, I do know it is, but the point is, the author isn't even trying anymore. As in making motorbikes or the ropeway, the events resulting in some kind of "scientific" invention happen for the sake of it. No logic, no sense, no consistency behind them. Furthermore, this lack of effort has turned Senku into Minecraft creative mode, which results in no actual invention process and no story to tell. The author fills in these holes in the storyline with redundant jokes, reactions and fanservice and since this isn't nearly enough, we're speedrunning all the way to the moon. It took 3 episodes to reach Manaus from California. Isn't there really anything worthwhile that could have happened in between? Off the top of my head, I can think of earthquakes hitting in Andes, malaria crisis in Amazon and endeavor to get some kind of antiviral medicine etc. It should have taken more time than one quarter of an episode.

But why bother with actual science when you can make do with repeating the same things for the umpteenth time, unnecessary characters being "funny", showing girls' buttocks, water slides and so forth, right?

That's a terrifying amount of Medusas. It gave me chills!

I really appreciate the studio that produced this episode. They portrayed the Amazon jungle beautifully and exotically.
It was also surprising to see so many Medusas that they formed a pyramid.

However, in my opinion, there were a few things that didn’t sit well in this episode. One of them was when Kohaku jumped across the canyon. Hey, that canyon was really wide—it just didn’t seem believable.
Also, their journey through the Amazon jungle felt way too short; suddenly, they had already found the Medusa pyramid.

Some nice shots of the Amazon here. As always, I learn some more neat science things, and that mound of petrification devices looks crazy. I get they were trying to cover the whole world, but THAT many? It's gigantic! Very nice episode.

The presented method was the correct one and that riddle is old, I even heard it myself when I was in elementary school.

Yeahh, I understand what you're saying. At this point, it's just better to ignore these kind of stuff in this anime to be able to enjoy it more. Either way, it's kinda of a shame they have been doing this for quite a while. Although I can just ignore it, it will always take a bit of my enjoyment over it, you know? And a simple 10 seconds clip could have resolved it, because as you said, showing the whole process would be probably a bit boring, but this little reference would just make the idea sink better.

But yeah, let's believe Senku just made the boots when he was making the tires, since he knew they would need them.
