For me it was Patlabor. I couldn't tell if it was a comedy, or drama, or something in between. I just felt nothing after watching the OVA and movie series afterwards.

Gundam Mercury Witch

Not the worse thing I have ever seen, but because I really tried to get into it and like it I watched until episode 9, so I wasted a lot of time. Other anime that I have dropped I just give one episode or 2, so it is not that much of deal.

Where Patlabor really shined was the TV series. I didn't care much for the OVAs or any of the movies, but I loved the TV series.

But to answer the question, I guess I would say Gundam. I tried hard to get into it because it is a classic, but after watching the first three seasons (140 episodes), plus several OVAs and movies, I just can't get into it at all. I really don't get the appeal. I hesitate to say the time was truly "wasted" but there's so much more I could've watched in that same amount of time that I probably would have enjoyed a lot more.

Naruto Shippuden or Yu-Gi-Oh ARC-V. Both examples of sunk cost fallacy by being absurdly long with trite writing that made the payoffs not worth it.

Nana is the longest anime (being 47 episodes) I've given the minimum rating of 1 to, so have to default to it as my answer. Easily one of the most narratively superficial and stagnant anime in terms of meaningful character development I've ever watched, topped off with sporadic insertions of bizarre "comedic" moments into the middle of scenes intended to be suspenseful and/or dramatic. Convinced I would've been more entertained watching a fly groom itself for the duration of time I watched it instead.

I dropped that series after episode 1 when I realized I was not the target demographic. The biggest waste of time for an anime in my book was Hyouka. The 1st anime I wanted to give a 1/10 too for being so boring, and one of the earliest dropped anime I ever had.

Ah sorry you didn't enjoy the Patlabor franchise but I love series I lean to balance between the comedy and drama but my favorite is the tv series

For my part is Nisekoi and Mushouku Tensei I can't not stand the mc I did try on Mushouku Tensei but I drop after watching that episode where this red girl and mc have something on camp at night that where I give up.

Only Yesterday. So much of the Studio Ghibli library is amazing, in fact I'd say all of them. Except one. Only Yesterday, though quaint and easy going.... It's very.... bland, in comparison. It's what you get when you take out the magic and mystery of a Studio Ghibli film and get its milquetoast bland remains. I really appreciate the effort and heart that went into it, but if I went my life without watching it again, it wouldn't bother me.

In all of my life, for me, it honestly takes a lot for an anime to be considered a waste of time. When it's this movie, that's saying something. You could give me the most outrageous and bawdy OAV ever or a story with a lot of flash but a lot of plotholes and I'd still have a blast. Only Yesterday, again, while it isn't awful, this is what I think of when all of the tourists and naysayers go "there's too many boobies! it's too lewd! there's too much violence! it's too dark and colors should only be used for happy stuff! tone it down so hollywood can take me seriously!" You get stuff like this, extremely goes nowhere and on the head boring attempts of "let's go back to nature and live like hippies" and tries to appease everybody. It makes me want to puke the remains of dry toast, unflavored oatmeal, and buttermilk thinking about it.

Edit: Sorry, the english title is Only Yesterday.

Kingdom Season 1 was the longest I've stuck with an anime while having a bad time and still not liking it very much after I finished it (38 episodes). It taught me to drop things and move on if I'm feeling miserable.

That was the show that annoyed me the most as well, but one that I finished anyway. Half of it was morbid curiosity, but a part of me was waiting for the later episodes to really pop off.

"Arise" came and went, and I was left feeling duped and confused... It wasn't worth it.

The Day I Became a God was mediocre at best, before that pathetic attempt at trying to evoke emotion from the audience in that abrupt tonal shift, to which it then certified itself as a dumpster fire of a show. Such shamelessly bad writing and so obviously just a very shitty reskin of Jun Maeda's previous shows.

In terms of utter worthlessness, FLCL Grunge. It's 3 episodes so it's not like it wasted a lot of my time but it thoroughly wasted what little time I had to give it.

I think Monster is probably the LONGEST anime that I would say was more or less a waste of my time. Compared to how much I put into it, I got very little out.

I got tricked into watching all 24 episodes of Endride during my hardcore BL phase when I was younger. The friend kept assuring me the homo will happen by the end of it.

Also all of the flashback scenes and fillers in Naruto Shippuden. I enjoy me some good ol' classic battle shonen moments but talk no jutsu be strong. It's the reason I never rewatched it to relive the simpler time of my life.

Bleach and Naruto.
I enjoyed them very much for a while, then the fillers killed my enjoyment and I switched to the manga. Then they had both stupid war arcs at the end, that bored me to sleep. I couldn't even finish Bleach.

And every bad seasonal show I felt obligated to complete. I took completing anime very seriously when I started watching seasonals.

@Zaxmq I'm in the same boat- but I can't say it was a waste of time because I learned a lot about current online weeb attitudes;
and also learned that the majority of them do not even watch the anime they rate so highly- by just observing their comments on any other anime that are equally boring. It was just a Reddit-driven pile-on to bump FMAB off the #1 spot. Nothing less.

Tokyo revengers. I like a lot of the old school delinquent manga and thought this would be a cool modern addition, but it was the opposite of what made series like crows or kyou kara ore wa so enjoyable. instead of ugly bastards that look 30 cracking lad jokes and kicking the shit of each other we got fujoshi baiting tweens with a fucking dumb time travel machinic

The entire Dragon Ball saga. I watched over 800 episodes of an anime that didn't even entertain me and isn't even original. Afterwards, why did I watch it? Because it's popular and considered a legend in the anime world so I finished it. The worst part is Dragon Ball Super which is the longest anime I gave a rating of 1/10. It's my biggest waste of time.

Re:Zero and the second place is not even close.
Unfortunately the show starts out rather interesting at the beginning, at which point I made the mistake of watching further, but the show just repeats the same formulaic time loop over and over, and I have never seen such bad character writing, with insane amount of flashbacks for all the irrelevant side characters in season 2...
The worst is, I even watch the movies, and those also add literally nothing to the plot!
Let's just say that I became extremely liberal with my drops after this point.

Sailor Moon (1992)

It might be an iconic anime, yet it felt like a slog to get through IMO. The "monster-of-the-week" formula is beyond repetitive! While the filler episodes might have helped giving secondary characters more development and screen-time. Yet, I dropped it because, like I said before, the monster-of-the-week is repetitive. It's the same thing EVERY episode!
