The old man survives!

I found it kinda funny at the Ten Swords members bickering with each other. Cho's mouth really has no bounds. But on an intersting note, it's good to know that they're taking Misao more seriously this season. Shishio definitely had an commanding presence even among them. Seems more like a buildup episode and I'm excited to see the Ten Swords' next moves.

The Aoshi of now is nowhere near as honourable as he was back then. Still Megumi sure made quite the timely entry back into the narrative. Misao sure was bold in her intent lol. Nice of Sano to stop getting lost though. Still damm amusing seeing Sano and Cho feed off each other to argue. Between Sojiro and Usui Kenshin and co sure are facing some steep odds. Ironic in that Shishio's plan was a simple expansion of what was already tried before.

First half was good development and growth for Misao, the new Okashira, whose world was turned upside down last episode.
I looked up the lyrics to the OP and yep! It's definitely sung from Makoto Shishio's POV (in contrast to the previous three from Kenshin's POV)
Aoshi arrives at Aoiya, he defeated Okina but still does not know Battousai's location, even though he could take them all out, Yahiko, stands up to Aoshi. Backed up by Kaoru, they make it clear that Aoshi is still no match for Kenshin who's training.
Megumi reached Kyoto despite heading off after Sanosuke.
Okina barely makes it but it wasn't just Megumi's skills; Misao had stopped the bleeding, she knew she couldn't lose him after she just witnessed the Aoshi no longer being the man she once looked up to, her expression isn't her usual genki self as she watches over Okina.
In Okina's letter to her, he orders the dissolution of the Oniwabanshu so Misao can live a normal life. He recommends she forget about the Oniwabanshu and Aoshi (Kenshin said something similar over the ravine). Instead of going by her elder's wishes, Misao becomes a ninja again, to assume control of the Oniwabanshu, as allies to support Himura against Shishio. Misao even refers to Aoshi by his full name without -sama, now.

With his poor sense of direction, Sanousuke, only eventually does make it to Kyoto by being captured by the police brawling.
Rather than upping his defense as Saitō suggested, he's just maxing attack by adding Futae no Kiwami to his list of techniques. Sanosuke got an easy victory because Saitō forfeited due to lack of interest.
So the Birdhead meets the Broomhead lol
If Cho snitches, he would indeed be safer in prison.
Cho use the own weight tied to his ankle as a weapon.
It was not Cho who slayed the policemen, nor was it Seta who was out collecting the other members, it was Usui, who prefers to work alone. Shishio's technically his but he's also the hitokiri that he couldn't kill.
Cho spills Shishio's plans for Kyoto; to revive the plan for the Ikedaya incident which the Shinsengumi famously stopped.
That we've seen two takes on these historical figures this season is interesting since we also got Blue Wolves of Mibu.

Sagara's inspiration Harada on the left and Seta's inspiration, Okita on the right.
Saito still bound by justice, will sure as hell stop that again. Sagara, known for hating the government due to his background, cares more for the lives of people who would be affected by the plan to set the de jure capital ablaze.
Cho tagged along too.

Another great episode. Very cool moment at the end with Sano and Saito. Watching the ending reminds to the second live action movie ending, so perhaps we will be watch something like that.

About Okina there is more to see.

I think we will see CM, MOF and perhaps even actual Hiko story, plus mega Rengoku arc. Can't wait

Best girl Megumi is finally back, that final scene with the dude just walking out of his cell was super funny, same with everyone kinda awkward when Misao said she was going to be the new leader.

I never expected Okina to live after what happened to him, that is wild, Megumi is damn good at her job lol, I’m glad for Okina and also Misao but now she’s got a mantle to take on, it’s just unfortunate that no one took her seriously when she declared herself leader lol. Also big props to Yahiko and Kaoru for standing up to Aoshi, that absolutely could have ended with their heads on the floor but they stood their ground for their boy Kenshin, and it ended up working, I guess if Aoshi gets to fight Kenshin nothing else matters lol.

And at long last, Sanosuke makes it to Kyoto! In prison… lol, somehow makes perfect sense for him, and he quickly showed off his new skill in an attempt to rematch Saito, but Saito wasn’t having it lol, but this did lead to the two of them interrogating Cho of the Ten Swords, he took a bit of convincing but he eventually exposed a really strong member of the Ten Swords, Usui, as well as Shishio’s entire plan of burning Kyoto which was a plan that was originally stopped by a group Saito himself used to be a part of, the Wolves of Mibu, very cool history there but now there’s a new reason for Saito to be in the fight, same with Sanosuke who had a really cool moment there where he swore to prevent Kyoto from burning down, a pretty hype way to end the episode, before Cho tried walking out of his cell lol, you ain’t slick chief.

Can not get over that fucking OP. Absolute BOP, one of Yama’s best ever songs and a genuine summer anthem.

There is absolutely no way gramps survived that stabbing lmaooo insane ass pull but I’ll take it. I didn’t want the old man to die. Gives Aoshi some opportunity for redemption and let’s Misao grow up and become her own person as leader of the group. This whole time she’s just been chasing after Aoshi, time for her to chart her own path and think for herself.

MY GOAT SANOSUKE FINALLY BACK LETS GOOOO. Fucking loved his banter with Cho. Cho was irredeemable just a few weeks ago, now I kinda like the dude lmao. That broom hair/bird hair fight was great, and we finally have Shishio’s plan and to see some more of the 10 swords. This ushio looks like he’s gonna be a problem. First dude we’ve seen that doesn’t straight up simp for Shishio too so you know he’s strong as hell

Misao is absolutely devastated by seeing Aoshi the way he is now. She had been holding onto this idea of him and the others in her mind and now she's gotten it all shattered. Misao has chosen her side, Aoshi or her family there at the restaurant, she's wisely chosen her family there to stick by. Taking over leadership duties as they've got no one to formally lead them with Aoshi gone and the old man incapacitated. Saito running into Sanosuke again is cool, they make a fun odd pairing to follow. Sanosuke was right that getting in trouble with the police would be a more direct route to contact Saito. The whole scene at the jail was funny, Sanosuke asking to help Saito only for the wolf to refuse but Sanosuke shows off his new strength blasting out of the jail cell. Them both interrogating Cho together made for an interesting dynamic. Both very intimidating guys trying to get answers out of a very uncooperative individual. Cho smartly standing down once he saw Sanosuke take that solid iron ball to the head. Through him we get introduced to another Shishio ten swords, a ruthless blind man who even openly opposes Shishio.

The old man brought some plot armor along with him it seems. Masao will try to put on an act but we all know she will fold before Aoshi.

Also its about time Sanosuke showed back up, he's late.

Okina truly has the plot armor of a shounen protagonist, huh? Don't misunderstand me, I like this old man but I was never a fan of him miraculously surviving Aoshi's brutal attacks.

That aside, I still highly enjoyed this episode. The always-pretty Megumi is back, Usui's character was introduced and Shishio's master plan was finally revealed. All pretty exciting stuff.
Also, anime-original ending scene with Chou nonchalantly walking out of his cell was plain hilarious xD

It was pretty cool to see the scene with Yahiko and Kaoru standing up to Aoshi finally animated. The 1996 anime, for whatever reason, decided to omit it in favor of Aoshi just telling Misao to tell Kenshin to come see him in Mt. Hiei, which meant we lost Aoshi confronting the remaining Aoiya members and Yahiko in particular showing his guts by standing up to him.

@AmarantineAzure the flaws of 96 were like this. kaoru arrived in Kyoto without any plan and suddenly met with Misao who gave shelter and then this scene to tell Misao about Mount Hiei for Kenshin. and many more.

@SouthRzVa Why are you calling this miraculously??? If we can remember, Aoshi has cut down four monks before within many pieces using this six slashes attack. This time he spared the life of this old man. If he wanted to kill, he could do the same with him.

Yeah wtf Okina manage to be alive? So damn lucky old man. I approve those 'pretty and adios' banter then. So yeah, pretty understandable resolve for Misao. Girl really like to get herself into trouble, so yeah good luck becoming the okashira and stop Aoshi from the villain fate. Also, wtf Megumi and Sanosuke truly arrive at Kyoto with style! But not expecting the second part tho. Cho is so chill telling all the secret to those both. I really need to know his background asap even after what just happened a few episodes ago...

Next episode heard to be a banger so let's see it then.

With the loss of Okina, the Oniwaban Group cannot stand against Aoshi's resolve, not even Yahiko and the others.

But in the nick of time, Misao, and eventually Megumi, managed to revive Okina, and it's almost a miracle that he's able to survive against Aoshi's strong offense. And while the letter from her Gramps certainly is both serious and light-hearted, Misao's decision to stand and be the Group's new leader in place of Aoshi, is a much-needed change from her. And in the midst of trouble, Sanosuke getting lucky to be caught by the police and then coincidentally meeting Saito so that he could find Kenshin faster, but the latter is here for another reason: One of Shishio's Ten Swords of Cho the Sword Hunter being captured for interrogation.

Obviously, Saito wants answers from Cho, and to add to the mix of Sanosuke picking up a fight between the two, that surprisingly got Cho to heed Fujita's claims and confirms that while Sojiro was the one behind Minister Okubo's assassination, he's not the one that the police must focus on, for there's someone else who's more capable: Usui the Blind Sword, the samurai who knows no fear, even if he has to kill off Hoji's own men to complete the deed. And similar to the Ikedaya Incident, Shishio's revenge to burn the Millennium Imperial Castle to the ground, peace is traded for war, and for once, both Sanosuke and Saito actually agree on eliminating that calamity to come.

Both Sanosuke and Saito are frenemies at best, but actually worth counting to reliability.
