David Wald is an American voice actor who voices in English dubs of Japanese anime. Some of his major roles include: Gajeel Redfox in Fairy Tail, Hannes in Attack on Titan, Bulat in Akame ga Kill!, and Master Chief in Halo Legends

source: wikipedia. He also voiced Paulie, Baron Tamago from One Piece.

If you watch English dubs, you probably heard of Wald. He strongly believes some Crunchyroll employee or employees stole his fan mails for years, and only now did he find out. This is a pretty serious accusation if true. Mail theft is a federal crime under 18 U.S.C. § 1708 and is punishable by up to 5 years in federal prison and heavy fines.

I always found funny how some anime pirates hate Crunchyroll because they underpay translators and voice actors, but some other anime pirates will hate Crunchyroll because they employ "woke" VAs and translators...

I'm not listening to some NPC give their thoughts on the situation, but why does Crunchy give a shit about this dudes mail? lmao
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

No such thing as private mail if it is sent to the business address. If he got robbed from his home address mail that is a different story.

Help! I'm new to the "Eternally Grumpy Frumpy Club" whose whole life is complaining about "woke" stuff. Am I supposed to use this situation as an excuse to bash Crunchyroll (FYI - Crunchyroll is woke for firing a serial sexual harasser). Or should I celebrate a man having his confidential mail stolen (FYI - the man is woke because he reads words in English for his job).

It's a tough one, for sure! Obviously Crunchyroll bad for firing sexual harassers and I feel like they should be canceled for it (Though I don't believe in cancel culture - only woke people do that! That said, CR should totally be cancelled nonetheless). But on the other hand, maybe Crunchyroll is good in this situation for stealing from a woke person? Afterall, if you speak English for your job, you obviously deserve to have your personal mail stolen. Dub speakers don't have any rights, after all, cuz their woke. What a conundrum

One thing is for certain: I'm a good person for hating Crunchyroll for firing a serial sexual harasser and thinking people who dub in English should have their mail stolen.

@MadanielFL
personally, i don't care much about English dubs in general, or subs for that matter, but that's neither here nor there. note that i deliberately specified English dubs, as there are dubs in other languages. however, it is true that they should be paid fairly for their work.
also, it is worth noting that this alleged theft was done by (likely low-level) employees. for obvious reasons, the company itself doesn't, or at least shouldn't, condone employees committing a federal crime. if anything, i expect Crunchyroll to respond by saying that they take this situation seriously, and that after an internal investigation, they terminated the employees involved in mail theft.

don't forget about people complaining about Crunchyroll subs, only to watch pirated copies that use the exact same sub.

personally, i found there's hardly a need to pirate now that i can watch anime without subs. i watch on the sidelines with both sides having it at each other.

If the perpetrators of these acts can be found, they should receive the appropriate punishment from the justice system.

But this video is typical bad-faith clickbait from the anti-industry outrage mill, in that they attempt to equate the actions of some random low-level employees with "Crunchyroll," the company as a whole.

@Zalis exactly. i tried to word my post carefully, since it's possible that there was a mix up and the employees wasn't trying to intentionally steal his mail. that is, this could all be a complete lack of competence in properly handling incoming mails to the voice actors/actresses. although, I wouldn't be surprised if they were indeed stealing mail, knowing that they are likely low level employees in San Francisco.

The video title was of course clickbait (that's how they get views). I'm a bit surprised that some people here who should know better
automatically made a knee-jerk reaction and treated this as "Crunchyroll bad piracy good" when that was never the intention here.
Thanks for actually reading my post instead of reacting to the clickbait title in the sourced video like some others in this thread.

@MadanielFL Crunchyroll is a garbage company and always has been from the start, regardless of anyones reason for hating them.

Personally I dislike them because they started as pirates but worse, stealing other fansubbers work, only to then get popular enough to "go legit". Now my main issues with them are mediocre quality work. The difference between CR subs and actually good fansubbers (not people who just restyle CR subs) is quite large.

Literally the only positive they have in the community is that a lot of new gen anime fans have CR to thank for getting into anime, as it would have been unlikely for us to get this many new anime fans if we were all still just pirating shit on various random pirate sites or IRC channels

Literally every pirate site does this, there's a reason why many fansubbers hate pirate streams.
Yet for some reason anime pirates still worship pirate sites like Aniwave and Kissanime, despite the fact that they are as unethical as you can get, since they make money by stealing other people's work (like fansubs)

Is it? Most pirate sites prefer to use CR subs for a reason, they are better than any other service out there.
And even other fansubbers say that CR subs are good most of the time.

Also the fact that they give us anime just a few hours after Japan, there's a reason why pirate site mods tell people to watch anime legally if they can, because they quite literally rely on Crunchyroll to provide anime for them.

More rage bait from the perpetually-triggered incel neckbeard loser-sphere whining about some completely pointless, unimportant drama that they most likely made up completely.
Why are you giving this crap your time. A bunch of losers whining on the internet about corporations still hasn't changed anything after all these years, and it's just rotting your brain.
Stop enriching these chuds . Turn it off and walk away. I almost got sucked in by these doomers during the lockdowns and walking away was the best thing I ever did.

Oh yeah, also stealing fan mail bad.

Yeah, you have to wonder what the decision-making process would've been, if these thefts had been orchestrated or permitted by management or "the company" : "We're Sony, a multibillion-dollar global corporation. Let's risk severe criminal penalties and massive fan backlash to obtain some trinkets of minor value!"

Of course, the anti-industry crowd is all too ready to believe this ridiculous narrative; if they weren't, this incident wouldn't be such tempting grist for the outrage mill.

Crunchyroll when it comes to shitty business practices:

@MadanielFL Personally I'm part of the first crowd. Also because they're a subsidiary of Sony who's trying to get a monopoly on the North American anime industry

@MadanielFL different people exist and some morons care more about secondary middlemen & bums in san fran than the money actually going to the original creators in Japan. (does anyone else remember when recently ex-pirate site starting using the support "Japanese creators by paying for Crunchyroll" guilt tripl LIE)

And an update to the post, David Wald has left Crunchyroll after no resolution to his issues stating "there are far too many abuses to list."
