Took us long enough to get a POV on the invaders. Seems that the little dude who was the last survivor in that battle or whatever is planning a counterattack. Seeing that one invader commit suicide though... :( It'll only get harder and worse for the poor little guys from here though, with the introduction of that Fujin thing.

I don't even blame the little guys tbh. We got idiot pricks like the ones that said "InVaDeRs aRe nOt pEoPlE"... smh. W girl that at least gave an effort on changing his mindset on the whole thing. It does seem like he's having withdrawals and trauma, somewhat, from it.

Finally we get the invaders’ side of things. Extremely hard episode to watch, made me sick to my stomach at times.

I know the invaders are aliens on earth and appeared without warning, but I refuse to believe there’s not a better way than just slaughtering them indiscriminately without even trying to talk to them. The colony massacre is going to haunt me for a while. All those innocent women and children just looking for a place to take shelter.. Poor Tsutomu wanted to hold on to his ideals and belief that the humans could be reasoned with. Sadly there’s only one way this ends and it won’t be pretty for either side.

Sucks that both the humans and invaders are victims of poor leadership. The invaders’ leaders clearly didn’t communicate their post arrival on earth plan well enough to the average citizens. The Japanese government’s extermination policy and encouraging private citizens like YUF to kill invaders is only making things worse too.

Looks like things on the human side are about to reach a boiling point with the pro invaders’ rights activists against those who believe they should be killed.. I hope Futaba doesn’t really get involved with a terror plot and get herself killed or kill anyone. Getting some major death flags from her. Especially when she sent everyone home after they came to spend time with her :/

Need the next episode!

This show continues to look better and better overall with time for me compared to reading the manga, been enjoying this quite a bit in the recent weeks, some good showcase of the perspective of the invaders and the planned counterattack in mind after the Fujin models have been taking out the 'invaders' mercilessly even further besides Kohirumaki's group and the military, even trying to communicate or pleading to it doesn't achieve much there. The brutality showcased with those murders as well as the suicide too was something else, this show does create a sense of empathy for them effectively. The multi-perspectives from the human side, regarding protestors or people who feel the methods should be more brutal, or people that feel a bit of grief and guilt for what they are doing and people who still are able to do what they are doing to take them down as well as the invaders' different emotional perspectives too regarding the whole survival situation is pretty damn good here. Even with a limited focus on the main cast in the episode, still feel like the show's doing a good job with it.

It happens so often, groups that claim to be all about peace, when they get big enough and angry enough, end up becoming violent themselves. This is probably one of the most unique alien invasion stories out there and I think it's because it focuses so much more on the human drama, and I love it

@StateofOhayo Dunno how it is in US. As a French, I watch it on Crunchyroll and the subs were effectively here. Maybe there's some issues in the english subs ?

@Uguu_Tsukimiya Idk but in English on Crunchyroll the subs weren't there and since it's an important episode I'd like to be able to understand everything. I only know some words and phrases in Japanese and I haven't used French in over a decade.

Edit: they should be there now, I'll cancel my vote until after I've watched it.

This was a brutal episode with a lot of character depth...futaba at the end omg idk what to expect but her pacifist nature is being challenged just like the sdf soldier but in an opposite way, very good parallel to draw.

My favourite chapter that isn't the flashback was adapted!
The story starts with the invaders perspective, with what implies for me that maybe the "home nation" they came from sent them to die, they said they feel they abandon them and the mothership is going to be destroyed and no one will help? The fact that they conveniently thought humans will be willing slaves? The fact that we know they can communicate yet they don't? At least for me it always felt when I got to this part that someone has interest in their deaths (might just be me as a gundam fan projecting)
Then we go to the best side story-the soldier , this episode in general (the show really) and this side story in particular is demonization to push an us vs them narrative, with my favourite example is actually Kadode's classmates, and it has a strange point of view on the topic -a soldier, which is probably one of the two faces of the invader conflict, so why him? I think it can easily be shown by comparing him to his family and seeing his reaction to both his sister and his father, both of them see only one side of the conflict and almost certainly know nothing (I am very suspicious towards the book the sister has shown considering how much the government hides the invaders from the public) while he as a soldier both knows and cares about protecting his people and is one of the only people who truly knows a little what the invaders are like, funnily the person who fights and kills invaders is the one who can objectively (as much as he can be) see how both the SHIP people and the ones who want to see invaders die are in the wrong by seeing how both just demonize other groups
The us vs them idea continues with Futaba's character, Kiho's crazy ex, while insane and a psychopath, has a point (kind of feels like what if mahito from jjk and shigeraki from mha would be one person this episode) but the true twist comes after it-SHIP prepares a murder, to futaba which just a moment ago defended them saying they aren't violent it's breaking her worldview, I still don't want to talk too much about her and I'll wait a little
And to the most important thing this episode-happy birthday Ontan!!!
Overall one of the darkest episodes and I could write a lot more about it, but that's all for now

Damn, and I thought the scene with all the little aliens falling from the sky was brutal? This was that CUBED. Stomach churning. But it also highlights how different parties are feeling & how events are fast spinning out of control. I do not see any happy endings here.

The invaders' side feels like a punch directly to your stomach... There's clearly a problem with the invaders' leaders cuz there's no way you send a whole ship to a planet without making proper communication with the planet's habitants when we already saw they clearly can communicate with humans thanks to their thechnology. I'm asumming the poor invaders are being used for a major purpose, which has to be the real invasion.

The fake is of far greater value. In its deliberate attempt to be real, it's more real than the real thing.

@Maou_heika episode 0 is probably around ep 17-18 but the anime has an anime original ending so we might not see it, actually I think that after episode 13 I don't know if we'll follow the manga (hope that some of it because some chapters will be beautiful animated). The story is a political SoL in a pre apocalyptic world, the arc in ep 0 isn't similar to what the manga is, but again -we are going to an anime original ending so things might change

So... We now have robots that will automatically scan and kill any "enemies", and they're controlled by an AI... This should go well.

And it looks like a big attack is coming from the aliens... Uh oh. Also what was up with those taller aliens? For a second I thought they must've been humans in disguise, but I guess not? And then we've got aliens with cube helmets instead of the round ones too.

Also did they really just fire that huge laser for that one guy 💀

I hope those guys in the YUF get fucked up by the end of this. Especially that guy with the bowl cut. He's asking for it, and it's going to feel good when it happens.

And what was that gun that Futaba got at the end? Is it just a normal gun? I'm guessing no right? And who exactly is she supposed to kill with it? It looks like everything is about to go off the rails. Everything is so close to toppling over. The aliens are going to attack, the mothership is coming down soon, that AI is most likely going to start killing people sometime in the near future, YUF is out of control, and it looks like SHIP might not be far behind... Man I am so jealous of people who can just bingewatch this show in the future lol I'm left wanting so much more after each episode, but all I can do is painfully wait for next week's episode

@Marinate1016 Good to know I'm not the only one who had a hard time watching lol I hate watching these aliens get killed like this, especially with YUF running around without any kind of repercussions. But let's be real, that AI that controlled those robots is going to snap and start attacking humans at some point too. And I can't wait for YUF to get screwed over in some way too. If anything I'm going to be so mad if they manage to get out unscathed. Hopefully the aliens can take their revenge on him.

I think Futaba is so dead btw. I like her, but she is so dead. I think she will get involved with whatever plan that woman has. Especially after what that bowl cut dude told her. I think she realizes that the only way to get attention or make any kind of progress at all is to follow her plan, and kill whoever they have in mind, which I mean I'm not even sure who that'd be. Maybe that guy in charge of defense? She will die for it though, like there's no way she's getting out of that.

And yeah, it sucks that all of this was due to poor leadership on both sides. It's just like that soldier said, even if they had communicated, there's a good chance it wouldn't have even mattered :(

@Marinate1016 Dude watching the aliens kids get killed like that was fucked. It wasn't as bad as similar scenes like that one from the first season of Code Geass, but yeah, that hurt to watch, and I'm so upset the kids got involved in this. And the thing is, things can only get worse from here :(

I was dreading this episode. Watching them exterminate the aliens (who are of a human's child's stature) is really tough to watch. I know the aliens are going to retaliate and humans will die (good ones, bad ones and indifferent ones), and I don't know how to feel about that.

@nhkam No I am pretty experience in the genre. Complaining about this is like saying there is too much drama in Cyberpunk 2077. When you have shows dealing with aliens they are going to go down this route espeically if it is the invader angle.

Also this show is a drama...what were you expecting? I don't see it as a soap opera...you can watch one of those on Tv if you want. Thee is an end goal and end to all of the arcs and not the endless bullshit you get with them.

@nhkam the story is an apocalyptic SoL about the lives of 2 girls at the end of the world with a big political side plot, of course it will be slow, it's a character and world study and it does it very well, I can get why it bores you but it isn't as much a flaw of the story more like this kind of story might not be for you. The appeal of it is the slow burn of us learning about the characters and spending time with them while seeing slowly how the apocalypse unfold, if it isn't your cup of tea then go find something you like better and don't waste time in what you don't enjoy

@Guilmon1 I get that, and thanks for clarifying it. I posted my plot concerns about the prior episode and was enlightened about the source and anime differences so I gave it another episode. Yes, it’s not my cup of tea and I’m gone, which is unfortunate because I like the character design and overall quirkiness. However the prior poster suggested I don’t know sci-fi, which is absurd. This show is a human interest story (and I guess alien now) primarily between the two girls shrouded in a sci-fi setting. It’s a genre I typically like but the stupid plot got in the way of the story.

@nhkam it's because while the story is sci fi, Inio Asano isn't a sci-fi author and you can see it in the anime, he uses sci-fi elements but there isn't the feel most sci-fi gives you, it feels like the story of the citizens of Tokyo 3 during evangelion (I always feel like it's more close to gundam but it's probably due to me really wanting a gundam show from a civilian POV), even asano said that the story is about the feeling since the 2000s that the end of the world is here, and when seeing it that way you see why a lot of stuff doesn't have the sci-fi feel, I love the story but when comparing it's writing style to other stories I won't think serial experiments lain or gundam but more 3-getsu no lion and for some reason catcher in the rye (don't know why but when I read the book something felt asano to me, probably since I don't read much non sci-fi non fantasy stories)

@Guilmon1 hahaha, I never thought I’d see Holden Caulfield mentioned in MAL. I appreciate your explanation. I guess this is a anime where the source material needs to be read in order to fully appreciate it, or at least fill in the gaps.

finally we get to see the invaders side of things and I think what they said in the previous ep humans as pet could be resolved through talking not by doing massacre... every ep is darker than the next one for me they started killing 2 to 3 alians in the previous ep to causing genocide in this ep that's cruel.... peak ep. 😔

Got to see more from the invader side and yeah looks like they've had enough. I mean no one can blame them after what they've been put through and this episode once again shoved it right into your face by showing us how they are getting massacred. Kohirumaki or whatever piece of shit gotta get what he deserves one of these days. Meanwhile's Futaba's been upto more than just protesting and getting it with on with one of the guys from the group. Now she's getting deeper into the hole that is SHIP to the point where she won't be able to return.

Happy birthday Ouran

The scenes of the invaders getting wrecked are so absurdly brutal they make me laugh. There's something very wrong with me. But also others are right, it's pretty ridiculous how they haven't tried to communicate whatsoever

Killing the aliens feels more like genocide.

Also, it's kind of 1984 in that Japan has become a police state and the citizens don't feel it.
