This finally cleared meme status for me. This is actually really good and I liked the mix of mind powers and golems he had to crush. The goals are more clear and while its still not the most original story it has style and then substance to execute the story its trying to tell.
This keeps jumping between "boring" and "ok" from chapter to chapter. The story isn't making me feel anything, it's like the most uninspired piece of fiction I've seen in quite a while. It's just poorly written.
Another peak chapter with grand action. Enraged Chihiro's skills at using katana are truly remarkable. It was amazing to see him return so fast from such dire situation and blitz through all enemies. Hatred and revenge are indeed the fuel of his power and resolve.
We've learnt why those thugs are after Char. So she's the last survivor of a clan of people with special blood that grants miraculous abilities. Interesting.
After seeing that flashback panel showing the war where katana imbued with magic were used, I've become even more hyped to see another enchanted blade in action. They must be powerful as heck if their full power, or at least if they're used by a skilled warrior knowing how to use 'em, can generate so much destructive power.
Honestly invested now. The art varies but the mangaka definitely has a good eye for action and crowd shots. This is definitely make it to chapter 30-50 even after the memes die.
After reading this chapter and the last I had a terrifying realization.
"Wait... Why am I actually really enjoying this?"
The story is simple so far but the art is fantastic and the characters are starting to be more fleshed out. The scene in the last chapter with the fucking Uzumaki ass sequence was really cool and the art in this chapter didn't disappoint. The story never lingers on anything too long but it has been letting the conversations take up more space between chihiro and char and their dynamic is really cute.
I think it's doing everything right so far. Char continues to be really endearing, and Chihiro keeps being super badass (while not being ow-I-cut-myself-on-your-edge tier) and a vehicle for super cool action spreads/panels.
It definitely seems like the combat is going to be mainly about style rather than battles of wits, which isn't everyone's cup of tea but given Demon Slayer's massive popularity, it shouldn't hurt this series.
I really liked the implication that usage of the swords can be improved by more skilled wielders, as that future escalation of abilities what a battle shounen really needs.
And I do wonder when we're going to get dropped into a more long-form arc conflict, we're gonna need fights that last more than one chapter sooner or later, not that it's an issue yet this early on.
Good vibes and nothing overcomplicated. Keep on Bachi'ing, Kagura.
