Why so common 2 boys 1 girl, why not 2 girls 1 boy, or 3 of the same gender?

Maybe it's to induce the audience into thinking there'll be a love triangle? 2 boy 1 girl friend trios hardly function irl anyways, so it's not like people will start comparing them to anything
Edit: It also makes the massage easier to convey, mmm/fff would be too...buddy-ish and 2 girl 1 boy would inevitably go towards the unreal love competition route

I prefer 1 boy 1 girl, which is far less common in anime.

The mc usually has 1 love interest to motivate and 1 really close friend. Thus 2:1 ratio

So how does Eva fit into the 2 boys 1 girl trope?

Funny because the first reply is a guy with an icon of an anime that fits this category description.

I say it is due to love triangle reasons maybe.

You have a point when it comes to shonen. Chainsaw man, Gintama and Attack on Titan also come to mind.
But I still think 1 dude + 2 or more girls ends up being more common when you go beyond shonen, especially with all the romcoms out there.

Target audience, I believe. If there is a demand, there will be a product.

Isn't it like that in real life too? Either you have a full boys or girls group or a group with majority boys and few girls but almost never with majority girls and few boys. Probably has some psychological reasons or something.

You must be blind when Harem of 1 boy and multiple girls or Rabu Triangle of 1 boy and 2 girls are much more popular.

But I read your post and stupidity is your permanent illness as well.

there has to be only one girl in a group, if there are 2 there will be fights all the time. Anime girls are damn jealous and want attention.
If you don't believe me, go read dandadan, the group is 2 girls and 2 boys and what happens? fights all the time for idiotic reasons.

it's also the reason why teams in WT have all girls teams or there's one girl in a group, never 2 + some boys

Outside of battle shonen, it doesn't appear to be overwhelmingly common at all.

Is the fantasy of double-teaming a girl really that common?

Rei is a girl lol. Unless you're intentionally trying to troll that is. As far as why it's so common, it could be to introduce a potential female love interest into the team dynamic. But it could also be to reduce a bit of the testerone as opposed to a team of all men.
