There is no way I can objectively answer this question, since I'll probably end up watching something that will replace whatever answer I say now. Although, Attack on Titan is a pretty safe bet.

Not only was it the most influential gateway anime of this generation, but it has continued to be the most popular anime in the world (or at least a strong contender for that title) for the last decade.

The animation, art design, direction and sound are consistently amazing, besides the CGI titans in the final season. It's narrative (characters, story, pacing, plot twists, etc) is considered to be one of the greatest in anime.

Is it the best modern anime, probably not. But I'd wager if this were a poll, most people would vote for Attack on Titan, and out of the candidates that normally win a 'best modern anime by popular vote' I'd say Attack on Titan deserves it the most.

Does JoJo's Bizarre Adventure count? The manga started back in 1987, but the current anime adaptation started in 2012. If it counts, I would say JoJo's is easily my favorite modern anime, especially considering what we're gonna see on December 1st.

If JoJo's doesn't count then I'd say No Game No Life. It's unfortunate that we still don't have a second season yet, cause the light novels only get better after the first 3 volumes (which is what the anime adapts) but I still have hope.
