Do you think a 60 year old anime fan would carry a social stigma?
I like dub more than sub because I am not a weeb.

No, it just means they have decent taste in entertainment mediums for a 60 year old.

If you're male some people might think you're a creep, but that's just the people who think anime is all weird/perverted anyway, so fuck them.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

It'd be more interesting to hear how a 60 year old consumes anime but there wouldn't be any social stigma.

Also even if there were some kind of stigma does a 60 year old have any genuine reason to care about social stigmas of that type at all? Like what crowd would they be trying to impress by hiding their hobby at age 60?

Something to keep in mind is that the popular cultural image of what a "60 year-old" does and doesn't do, dresses, acts like, and so on, isn't some unchanging concept fixed in time, but changes with the times.

A 60 year-old alive today in the year 2021 grew up without the internet. For someone born in 1990 or 2000 or 2010 who eventually reaches 60, this will not be the case. You should not base your expectations of what most 60 year-olds of the future will be like in this respect in terms of cultural exposure and level of familiarity and ease of access to diverse mediums of entertainment and communication based on the limitations imposed by technological constraints some 60 year-olds would have today imprinted by their upbringing.

If you are the type who is looking to see if there is an age limit to being an anime fan then you are clearly not as big an anime fan as you would like to think you are - There is and will never be an age limit to being a fan, there is no age as to when you start being one and there is certainly no age restriction on the type of Anime that you enjoy... the only limit is on yourself and how long you can or want to be an Anime fan whether it's for one day or if it is until your final day in this life.

Contrary to what society may think, I believe you're never really too old to watch anime, just like you're never too old to watch film and play games. It's just another type of hobby/pastime.

Is there a social stigma if you're a 60 year old anime fan?
Yeah probably, if you're openly expressing your love for anime as an elder, since that might make you look like an outlier. But then again, maybe not, because millennials and Gen Z people love anime more than baby boomers do, and might never lose interest in anime despite growing older. If people have a problem with you liking anime when you're old, then that's their problem for caring about something so trivial.

It also partly depends on how old you are exactly, and what your favorite anime are. For example: If you're a 60 year old man who's favorite anime is Love Live, then chances are, you're probably going to get some weird looks from people lol.

Never too old for anime! I used to preach that on my profile lol. Seriously though, remain open minded and have fun! People get bad rep for liking things that are more catered to youth as they get older, but it's really not that bad. People expect you to conform to society and such, so you're definitely gonna get weird looks/opinions while being older as you were younger. Take it with a grain of salt b/c as long as it's not creepy then it's honestly all good.

When I watched RePrincess Connect and the overpowered and sexually irresistible MC chosen one drops straight up wisdom such as "Duh, work good. Money good.". Then the elf chick expounds on lore for twenty-five minutes, I knew. I knew we had reached the insurmountable pinnacle.

Are you ever too old to not enjoy a certain form of media? I don't think so.
Anime has varied genres that cater to the tastes of the young and the old, watch as long as you're enjoying it.

I don't think there would be a certain age where you are considered to be "too old" to be watching anime. Watching Anime is almost identical to watching movies or TV series. Everyone can watch enjoy them no matter the age.

I don't think their is necessarily an age limit, I think just in general life happens when you get older like kids and work so you might not have the time to devote to anime like you use to

"Do you think a 60 year old anime fan would carry a social stigma?"

Even a 12 year old would carry a social stigma putted there by peers if he/she liked the wrong non popular anime, so yeah...People judge others by some weirdly thought out criteriums.
For example I like to pass for anime veteran but other veterans refuse to give me street cred for skipping Evangelion, Utena, Ergo Porxy, Lain and similar...

I feel like we get this thread once a month....

Media like literature, art, movies, tv, etc. has no age limit.
i would literally not even question it if some one rose from the dead then went back to watching anime. well no I would question the coming back to life part, but not the watching anime part.

@alshu
that's because they are probably full of egotism.

anyone who self proclaims themselves a "veteran/elitest" in any type of entertainment medium be it books to anime smells full of egotism in my book. can say I've enjoyed anime for a very long time, but I don't go claiming "veteran/elitisms" status in any entertainment medium.

just like I dislike the "pro gamer." term. it just leave s a foul taste in my mouth from how much egotism such mentality must have.

if you like a book or game or anime you like it if you don't you don't
simple as that.

dictating what people should and should not like in such a medium is a pointless exorcise.

I don't think so. For example, my great parents like tom and jerry. The old anime (Yamato, Captain Hardock, etc) is like the old "western" animation series, so I wouldn't say that there is a problem, even the new anime would be ok. As people said adove, "media doesn't have a age limit"

Doesn't matter, anime is a form of media and entertainment, if it's ok for 40+ year old people to be enjoying movies and shows then it's completely fine for them to be enjoying anime as well.

When you die is too old to be watching anime.
All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper. However, for those who refuse our offer and cling to their western animation ways… For you, there will be great wrath.

i would think that a 60 year old is old enough to do whatever the fuck they want. seriously though, you're never too old to have fun. who cares what's considered "normal"? i'll probably be watching anime till i die, and i don't mind at all.

It might carry a social stigma but who cares. It's not like the 60 year old would. Besides if you think there's an age limit to watching anime that's just gatekeeping.

Of course it would carry a stigma by the ignorant and people who frown upon anime. It's up to each individual on what they would do about it. Persoanlly, I wouldn't care since I don't gate-keep enjoyment. I would think it would be awesome if my 60 year old dad watched anime.

No age. I think the lifespan of an anime fan is dependent on how long they can derive enjoyment from the medium. Plus, I feel like if an anime fan is watching anime up into there 60s, they would reach a point of not caring about stigmas. They would have likely lived the life that they wanted socially or relationship-wise.
