What genre should Attack on Titan be in (not that it does even really matter -_- was pretty much just bored and felt like asking what you guys thought)

So I can understand why it was put into the shounen category (for mainly the first season at least) It's an action packed hype thrilling anime and it can makes sense that people put it in shounen. But as the seasons and the story progressed, it started to be seen more of a seinen. It wasn't just pure action for entertainment.
Now I know there are some people who think that it's still shounen, and some who think it's seinen.

And even some "fans" who get trigger when people think that it's a shounen. And let me tell you to all you attack on titan "fans" who do that. Shut up. Why are you being so competitive? You think that getting so offended when someone says something that you don't about your favorite show is the right way to defend it. IT'S NOT! SHUT THE FUCK UP! You just a competitive little twat who is obsessed with a show. YOU'RE MAKING THE AOT FANDOM A CRAPPY PLACE. AND SAME WITH YOU MANGA READERS! QUIT SPOILING EVERYTHING AND HATING ON THE SAME PERSON WHO GAVE YOU THIS WONDERFUL STORY TO ENJOY. YOU GUYS ARE GIVING THE HATERS EVERY RIGHT TO TRASH ON AOT

Sorry, went off of a little rant. But do you think it's still a shounen or has it moved to the seinen category. For me, I personally think it's more of a seinen now and for the first season, it was a shounen that had a seinen world.

It's both, it was Shounen but then later more details about the world unraveled and the story took direction to Seinen, for me the story of AOT feels like it shows you how our heroes had these nieve beliefs at the start like most Shounen stories and how they were crushed as they grew up and knew the reality of this world and became Seinen

I personally see it as a seinen, more later on than in the beginning but the amount of blood was quite a bit, more than what I’ve experienced in any shounen. But idc about genres or ‘shounen or seinen’ cuz if i enjoy something, I just do, and not shame others for disliking something (at least if they gave it a serious try). So idk what the whole deal is with people who try to put it in a category and dont agree with someone having a different opinion.

Also, as a manga reader of AOT i’ve never spoiled the story or hated the author for the choices that were made. It makes me a little icky how you generalize the manga readers like aot haters generalize the fandom (・_・ヾ There are actual ppl who really loved the ending and while I couldn’t find the enjoyment others had i’ve never tried to fight them over it. I’m just glad they were able to love the ending of a series they love so much.

The first season is definitely shounen, but from S3P1 it becomes closer to seinen. Season 2 is still mainly shounen.

With how violent it can get at times I'd definitely consider it a Seinen anime.

This post is just a huge misunderstanding. Shounen and Seinen are demographics not genres. Attack on Titan is shounen because it releases in a shounen magazine. The same show would be seinen if it was published in a seinen magazine.

People need to learn this.

It does has some heavy plots and dialogue, but imo it's not enough to be called "seinen" in general, so yeah it's still a solid Shounen

I seriously don't understand why people think it's seinen without any pure evidence. I also don't understand why this is still a thing.
I also find it very ironic that people want a battle shounen anime to bring something new to the table but when Attack on titan did that, a lot of normies are automatically labeling it as seinen. I think it's battle shounen haters who do this sort of thing. Basically they see any battle shounen as a bad anime.
I actually find those kind of people to be dumb tbh.

Every word I write is a fact.
Lot of analysis proves this that it is indeed a Dark Shounen better than Mid Hero Academia and Mid Clover

Shounen and Seinen are demographics, not genres. That simply means which age group the show is targeted at. AOT is and will always be a shounen, no matter what the content matter of the show is. Saying that AOT being darker now means it HAS to be seinen is saying that shounen anime can’t be dark and deep. Highschoolers can handle dark and deep subjects, which I assume you’re in that age group. If it’s deep and something you can understand, then the shounen title fits perfectly.

Oh I actually didn't know that. Cause everybody around me said that Shounen is a type of genre of anime that usually is made for teenage males. But it makes sense if it's a demographics. Anyways, thanks for the explanation.

aot is a shounen because it was publishied on hounen magazine, shounen and seinen don't necessairly mean the directions or themes of a story but simply where they were publishied, but it became more seinen like the more it went on i agree.

Shounen and Seinen are just target demographics. It’s entirely decided by the production company what demographic they’re targeting and for AOT they’ve decided to market the series towards the Shounen (12-18 yo male) audience.

There is no debate on this. Shonen and seinen are not genres, they’re demographics. Attack on Titan is a shonen manga that was published in a shonen magazine aimed at the shonen (teenage boy) demographic. Debating over whether an anime should be considered shonen or seinen only works for original anime like Code Geass, because if it’s based on a manga then you know what demographic it’s for based on what magazine it’s in.

Shōnen, Seinen, Josei, etc... Are demographic targets. If something is published on a Shōnen magazine, it means that the author thoughs that his work is made for adolescents. Shingeki no Kyojin was edited by Kodensha and published on Bessatsu SHŌNEN Magazine, do what do you think it's target is?

Although people typically define these genres in terms of the magazines in which the (source) manga is published in, I'll always view the series as a whole as leaning more towards seinen rather than shounen. Sure, the first season seems to largely follow the usual shounen formula. Nothing to dispute about that but as a whole, compared to most of its other shounen counterparts, it seems to have way more mature elements in the storyline and character development, as well as in building up the "world" in which the action takes place. I might be wrong, though, as I was never so invested into genre and studio classifications as other fellow users around here are.
