Game is currently on sale on Steam and PSN store. I bought it recently and will probably start it soon. For anyone who has already played Scarlet Nexus, what's your thoughts on it? (without spoilers)

A game that I played the PlayStation demo of, but didn't buy on Steam due to having too many gaming options at the moment.

I'll get to it, eventually, though I did say something similar about finishing Code Vien.

I beat the game 3 times within two weeks after launch and I really enjoyed it. If you start playing, I suggest starting with Yuito's side and once you get past chapter 4 switch to Kasane and get to 4 on her. After that, complete Yuito's. It really improves your understanding of the story. It's hard to say more without spoiling, but the game is really good with the only flaw I can think of being the side missions--they're kinda boring. The OST, combat system, and main storyline are really good though.

Also heads up, don't watch the anime until beating the story. Like nearly every anime game adaptation, it's far worse than the game.

I finished it but I only played Kasane's route. My game time says ~35 hours for one route but I think it might be less than 30 because the game counted time when it was minimized. I don't think I will go back and play Yuito's route.

If you think you can invest yourself in playing both routes then it might be a good idea to follow @CookedChili suggestion about playing both routes at the same time. If not, the general recommended route is Yuito->Kasane. If you're like me and not sure if you'll play both routes, I suggest only playing Kasane's route as you get a much better picture of what's going at all times and it's easy to make sense of the story from Kasane' perspective than Yuito's.

As for the story itself, I thought it was fine. You will need to suspend your disbelief quite a bit to accept the various complications in the story and the way they are presumably solved. The general setting is great though, lot of potential for them to reuse the setting and make something more grounded in a future installment if there will be one.

The highlight of the game is definitely the combat, it's fluid and extremely fun to play while also being strategic enough to not just require button mashing. Honestly, at some points I felt the entire game is just a showcase for the combat system. I think Kasane's gameplay is far superior to Yuito for the majority of the game just because the powers and characters with Kasane are so much more fun to use and varied. Not saying Yuito is bad but that's just the feeling I got after using all of them towards the end.

Levels are largely linear and you will often trudge through the same areas in a very JRPG fashion but the combat is fun enough to not make this feel like a chore. Honestly, the only really terrible aspect of the game are the side quests which do feel like a chore to do especially since some of them are basically 'Kill X enemy in Y way Z times. The bonding system is also pretty mediocre, and often doesn't make sense within the context of the story. It feels like the entire bonding system was just tacked on at the end than made as a real part of the game because they couldn't fit all the character stories in as part of the story.

I liked the game overall and my recommendation would be buy it on a sale if you don't have anything else lined up. The combat system is most definitely worth experiencing and main story is pretty decent but I will say that you should decide how much time you can invest into the game cause it will decide what route you should play.

The one that I've played was Yuito's Route, Haven't played Kasane's yet. The main story was fine but there's nothing groundbreaking on it. It seems to me the game just following the trends where we just adding Alien, Ancient Civilization, Dangerous Experiment, Time Travel and stuff all in one package which most of Modern JRPGs doing so today.

Characters mostly archetypical like you've seen from a lame B-rated anime. You spent good amount of hours with them thanks to bonding event and dialogues in the dungeon, so overall they were ok but it was quite annoying that Yuito was another cardboard cutout dense protagonist.

The side activity I'm not a big fan of. Side Quests were dreadful; Kill this monster, kill that monster with certain ability etc, rinse and repeat. There's no variation which was very dissapointing. Aside from the bonding event and grinding, there's not a whole lot to do. There's no varied shop in the town, no minigames, No food/item recipes, and NPCs doesn't really have anything to say.

Visual also dissapointing because most of the time the cutscene was just slideshow; Animation only appears during important boss fight. The cel-shaded characters don't look to bad, but the environments are very bland and grey to me.

The combat was fast paced, fluid and I quite like it. Reminded me a lot with Nier Automata. The "brain crush" kinda annoying at times for grinding, it actually took me awhile to realize you can switched it to short in the option menu.

The game was playable enough but far from the best JRPGs out there.

Cool, thanks for the answers I guys! Probably will start the game next month. I plan to play both routes with Yuito's first (judging by the responses, it seems to be the bettter choice).

I did not intend to buy it yet since Tales of Arise is coming out soon, but I was too weak to resist when I saw that it's on sale, lol. It looks really good, so I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Only about halfway through Kasane's route which I played first. Generally the combat is the main selling point both with pretty broad ways to build your character as well as featuring more of a beat em up style gameplay with enough customization to find a style that fits.

A majority of the time spent, especially if you do the character bonding that provides combat buffs, will be spent on dialogue. Granted the vast majority is voice acted which is generally appealing and it can be skipped if you just really aren't interested. But there is a lot especially between major chapters you can easily spend 30-60 minutes just listening to conversations between characters.

They commit really hard to a specific aesthetic which is inherently going to be hit or miss.

Fair warning, if you are a person who tends to achievement hunt it's physically impossible to finish the game until the anime ends due to a tie in event.

I have played the demo and i thought it wasn't that bad actually. I didn't like how the controls felt though. Contrary to what a lot of people think i also enjoy the anime quite a bit as well, which is really odd.
