I feel like my skills peaked in high school beating smt nocturne. As an adult I find games hard even on the easiest setting. I might just have less time to git gud but I still find myself struggling.

How about you? Have you gotten better or worse since high school?

Damn it's been forever since I beat a castlevania game. I have way less patience than I used to lol.

i am in my mid 20s, and I am better at games than I ever was. I even managed to beat F-Zero GX which was too hard as a kid.

If you are physically or mentally aging, then of course you’re going to be hindered while gaming. Awareness, reaction, memory, and movement are a few of the things can be affected when you age. As long as god hasn’t decided your fate, you can still be talented at video games. I wouldn’t be discouraged unless I had arthritis or something like that.

@rohan121 Lucky you. Lol. Maybe I should give f zero gx a try since I've never actually played it.

@Y0tsug1-chan yeah, there is just a stigma against playing games on easy mode lol. Makes me self conscious. Like I'm struggling with Wasteland 3 on the easiest setting.

My skills have always been mediocre and online I usually suck, but my determination and will to improve has definitely increased, like some examples...

Any game on the Atari ST: The Atari Joysticks (and they were Joysticks ) were absolute balls. The official one was still the 2600 one. Me and my Sister would fight over the 3rd party Zip Stick because it was a million times better! It's well known how awesome this Joystick is, but even with these 2 they still are somewhat unresponsive. I had to have my Sis help with some games as 1 player ST can be frustratingly hard.

But years later I thought I might try plugging in a 3rd party MegaDrive Controller as the pins were the same...and it worked! and the pad was so much more responsive.

COD Modern Warfare 2 on PS3 . For years I had been trying to clear the Spec Ops missions using 2 controllers and just me on the 360 (because I never joined XBOX Live.) I got so far but not all of them. I wanted to try it on PS3 because I really wanted the Plat Trophy for some reason?🤣 and somehow managed to do it eventually with 2 Controllers and just me, but my god it was hard.

Rage Racer on PS1. I used to really like playing this game as a kid, but only got to a certain level. Because after that it pretty much locks you into using Manual shift cars, and I used to only use automatic. I went back I taught myself how to drive the manual shift cars and passed the level I got stuck at.

yeah, reaction time is just rock bottom now. It was peak probably 20 to 15 years ago but no I'm jsut freaking sad.
Also whenever there's too much chaos and stuff happening at the same time I'm completely lost and can't follow.
it doesn't matter that much in many game I play, but in FPS it's just sad to see.

The only thing that I think that you lose over time is interest. Other than that I don't think you get worse as time passes.

I did try to replay some hard video games that I beat as a teenager and was baffled at how I could have managed to do it back then. But I don't know if it was because I really was better or if had more perseverance. Or maybe both.

Maybe not worse, depending on what you play but you'll get less time to play as you get older.
Powered on my PS4 last weekend for the first time since Dec 31 2020. What a freaking software update there was. Took forever.
Today, I may be a weak little bug that gets tossed in the wind,
washed away by the currents, and drowns, but tomorrow,
I may become the butterfly that spreads its colossal wings and flies the open skies!

I don't see my skills reducing but in any case i've greatly reduced the number of hard games i get, since i'm not an hardocre gamer anymore and i prefer easy and fun games over difficult ones.

I definitely had more patience back then. I've beaten some games like Metroid 2 as a kid that I would never be able to beat today.

Unless it’s a style I’m naturally bad at (shooting games, I suck) I’ll be okay as long as I have enough time to get the controls and muscle memory down. As I get older sadly, I have less time for games :’(

No, I'm 28 and just as competent as I was at 18. I just don't care as much as before and get bored of games more quickly.

I was a sight to see in my prime. Top 200 in Mass Effect 3's multiplayer by country. Ranked somewhere in the 1,000's in kills via jets in BF3. Top 1% in my entire career playing BF4. Now I'm old, slow, and my wife is probably sleeping with someone else.

I'd say I'm just as good as I ever was lmao if anything growing older gives you more confidence in games since you don't think too much about it and reaction wise still good.

No, I got better with age. I usually have better scores now than during my childhood and early teens.

I respect your opinion as long as you respect mine.

i think i got better. maybe because i play more games, and don't shy away from challenging ones.
quitting caffeine also helped.

pro CSGO and DOTA2 players retire at the age of 30 usually since reflexes and reaction time weakens as you grow older

I think I'm getting better because it's easier for me to understand abstract game mechanics.

The time it takes to practice and actually get really good though is something I don't have.

Almost 30 years old here. My reaction speed, finger dexterity and precision are definitely not as good as they used to be, though not by much. I make up for it by understanding the games' mechanics faster and with better decision making, so I'd say that overall, my skill at videogames is still roughly the same.

Older people tend to suck in shooter games like CoD. Still, I'm most comfortable playing a relaxed round with some boomer instead of some Monster energy sipping 15 year old autistic kid.

It's hard to say.

I wouldn't say that I'm worse, but I wouldn't say that I'm better, either. Although, when it comes to solving puzzles in video games, I'd say I'm much better now.
