I saw on another post that people said they only read about 10 chapters in one sitting. When I read, I tend to read 30-50 chapters in a sitting. Is this bad?

I'd say no, I mean isn't the best thing about manga, the fact that you can read at your own pace?

Not at all. There are many series with arcs that are better to read volume-wise in order to not get lost quickly in the long run + basically what MoreNoise said.

In my eyes, binging is only bad and also lame when you don't buy anything, even though you can afford it. ;)

Buy stuff, or buy at least your favorites if you can afford it - Don't be lame.

MAL is a far cry from being my main literature site, that's why I won't be doing mere single chapter updates anymore. Manga- aka Baka-Updates + 2 French ones are miles better and more thorough/complete + less restricting. The latter are perfectly suited for Manga/Light Novel/Books collectors such as myself. Less stressful/tiring this way. -g-

When you say "wrong" are you implying it from a health/outside life point of view or are you implying it from a "what's the best way to absorb the contents of a manga" point of view? If it's the former then not really, unless you are severely addicted. If it's the latter then that depends on the manga. Some manga are very heavy on the technical details of the plot and so it would be better to binge them because you can forget those details later on. Whereas there are other manga that are more psychological, philosophical and/or "depressing" and it's better to take your time to absorb and analyze what you just read.

While it isn't bad per se, I do think that if you binge read too much, it can be harder to digest the information and you'll be more likely to miss details. Also fatigue can be a thing.

To be fair, depends a lot of the manga as well. Some manga are fairly easy to read (popular romcoms like Rent a Girlfriend or Kanojo mo Kanojo) but others like way harder to read. Especially Attack on Titan has some chapters with so much text and information that it almost feels like reading 5-10 chapters in one. One Piece also has so much shit going on at the same time that it can be harder to follow what's going on.

Personally I spread out my manga consumption through the day, with 10-20 chapters max per sitting, but whatever works for you I guess.

It's bad if it is taking your time too much and you're forgetting to do your other priorities.

No.

Everyone goes at their own pace and not every series are suited for the binging format. Series like Gantz and I am a Hero are great binging series whereas Negima is not (for me).

Well, I would say first of all it depends on the manga since like I explained above, there are manga that you might forget the small details for if you wait too long between each volume read (and those manga heavily rely on small plot details, for example: kingdom; kingdom is great for binging) and second of all, I would say not to rush. Just because you are binging doesn't mean you should rush. In fact, you should never rush no matter the type of manga. Rushing/skimming makes you miss not only key plot details but also stuff like foreshadowing, juxtaposition, symbolism and other subtleties that play a role in giving the characters and the themes some depth.

as long as you comprehend what you're reading, read as much as you like. it's only bad if you are reading it so fast that you're forgetting/skipping crucial details

Is binging anything bad? Seems like a personal preference and depends on how much free time you have.

I would be able to read more chapters, if I didn't checked out the comment section. Sometimes the comment section is bigger then the chapter itself.

No, I don't think so. If you are really enjoying it, you should read the amount of chapters you want. When I was reading Bleach, I read the whole Fullbring arc in three days.

nah you can read more manga that way but it depends on the genre for shonen I have like 100 chapters done in a 15 hour session but if it is more complicated manga I guess 5 hours is more reasonable

When I read manga, I like to make it into something I do for a long session. I'd say around 30 chapters is my ideal. It makes it much easier to follow the story by reading it in big chunks instead of doing it in smaller portions. Same as with binging an anime after it's done airing compared to watching it weekly.

No, most definitely not. I also tend to read 30-50 chapters in a single sitting. it all depends on the time I have available.

Well, it is, but that's only if you're a speedreader and intentionally skip over things. At that point, you should assess if you want to read it or just rush through it.

It is not bad to binge something if you enjoy it. I usually read a whole manga in one go and then isolate myself to be fair. For example, I have read Solo Leveling in a day then 5 days I didn't read anything.

Never. To me, reading something once every week is quite lacking and unenjoyable. I enjoyed Berserk and One Piece (two of my most favorites) while binging. I cannot say the same right now when one of 'em arrives twice an year and other's taking constant breaks.

On a manga binge I normally read around 30-50 chapters

I don't think it's bad, if you love the series just read it more

Nah, I don’t have much time for reading outside of my lectures. So usually I read manga once month, during the weekends. I usually can finish a whole series within a day, I can find myself reading anywhere 150 to 200 chapters.

i guess it's alright, but in my case when i got bored by a manga sometime i don't know whether it's the story that's boring or i'm just tired after reading so much chapters in one sitting.

It's not at all bad imo. I always binge manga.
Now I am currently binging the One Piece manga.

Waiting for a chapter every week is really a pain, especially the WSJ manga, which would have only upto 20 pages, a chapter.

I prefer tot read it this way, I wait until more chapters are out. Then I read through them all. You can enjoy a manga more this way.
