So, my question is basically the title. Will this be considered Fall 2020, as it starts airing in Fall 2020, or Winter 2021, as that’s where the bulk of it will be? Just curious. Waiting for it to get updated on the site.

Fall 2020.
Fall begins in September and ends at the end of December.
Winter begins in January and ends at the end of March.

While it is not the norm for series to start 2 months into the season, there's also movies who debut mid season in theatres and are catalogued through the seasonal chart.

I searched for anime that has been released in December and a lot of them were premiered in Winter, so I guess the 4th season is considered Winter 2021.

Why would it be 2021, when the air date is on 2020?

Still Fall 2020. Winter 2021 usually begins in January.

Why hasn't it been added to the Fall season list on the front page? Will MAL show it as a Winter anime instead?

Check the front page lol...They're adding it as a Winter 2021 anime. How I see it, it's still technically a Fall 2020 anime.

well mal, it should be fall because kings avatar second season which is an online network anime, releasing of 25th sept just 1 week before fall 2020 yet it is being considered a summer anime and the same rule should apply on attack on titan its even 1 month before the strt january, it would be funny to see mal stating it 2021 and orthers 2020

I don't see it in neither Fall nor Winter season animes list. Where do you see the info that says they will add it as a Winter anime? Link.

EDIT: Just saw it says "Premiered: Winter 2021" in the info section on the Final Seasons anime page which wasn't there when I checked before. Still wondering why it hasn't been added to the "Seasonal Anime" list under Winter 2021 if that's the case though.

I disagree with MAL and Anilist classifying the series as a Winter 2021 anime, since winter solstice starts at 21 December and the air date is planned to start two weeks earlier.

I understand it qualifies as a Fall 2020 anime, but it will be treated as a Winter 2021 anime. Not just MAL, but every website has it listed as Winter 2021. You guys are thinking of it as starting late for Fall season, when in reality it is actually starting early for Winter season. December 7th is much closer to the start of Winter season, then it is to the start of Fall season, so personally I have no problem with the way it is being classified. Also if you look at the anime chart for Winter 2021 anime, there are a few shows that are starting before December 21st, similar to AOT, and they're all still listed under Winter 2021.

Personally, I would classify it to be under Fall 2020 since the Winter 2021 season won't begin until the 1st of Jan.

Winter 2021...it's more of an anticipated airing of the Winter season than a late airing of the Fall
They did the same with Kingdom s2 (also on NHK) that started airing in June and they counted it for the Summer season

I don't really see it as a seasonal in the usual sense because of the unusual release date. But MAL should definitely classify it as a Fall 2020 show, because it doesn't make sense to say "Premiered: Winter 2021" for a show that premiered during the Fall 2020 anime season.

I'll also classify as Winter 2021. To me, we have to have at least an entire arc (or the vast majority of it) displayed in that Season to be considered a part of that Season. That's why I'm also cool with Great Pretender be considered a Spring 2020 show (It had the entire first act avaiable on Spring). I've also considered Babylon a 2019 release because I've considered the first 7 episodes as an entire arc. I can't say Final Season will be a 2020 show and be eligible in my own 2020 award contest if it won't finish at least a portion of the story when the year ends.

The only exeption, as I've mentioned before, is when we have an arc that will only finish in the first couple of days of the next Season. But in SNK Final Season case, it will most likely finish when it's close to Spring 2021.

But yes, it is a bit weird when MAL chooses the word "Premiered" on their website. They probably don't care about that term anymore, and just want to place the show into the best option they think it belongs.

More than likely AoT Final Season is going to be split cour, which would frankly be a good thing considering MAPPA's previous works when they work on a longer than 1 cour series.

Kingdom S3 has been confirmed to be coming back in Spring 2021 and with Kingdom S3 being 2 cour and having no good stopping point mid Coaltion Arc that would mean the schedule of both would go down like this:

December 7 - First 4 eps of Final Season
Winter 2021 - Remaining 13 episode of Final Season.
Spring 2021 - Kingdom S3 first half
Summer 2021 - Kingdom S3 second half
Fall 2021 - The rest of AoT Final Season.

Fall 2021 - The rest of AoT Final Season.

Hmmm that's weird since the NHK hasn't made any statement on Kingdom yet, unless I just missed it. But assuming it stays on the NHK, there will be a few problems with your schedule. A 17 episode first cour season makes no sense, since there is no good stopping point at that place in the manga. A 10 or 12 episode first cour would make for a good stopping point, but 16 or 17 episodes would just be weird. If this season was going to be split cour, then it would make more sense for them to just start in January and do like 10 or 12 episodes, but instead they decided to start in December. So if Kingdom does indeed come back in Spring 2021 and stays on the NHK, then I think the schedule will go like this:

December 7th to February 8th or 22th - AOT first cour (10 or 12 episodes)

February 15th or March 1st to July 19th or August 2nd - Kingdom finishes out their remaining 22 episodes (Yes this would technically still be Winter 2021, but it could still qualify as Spring 2021, since it would be starting nearly 2 months into the season, similar to AOT S4)

July 26th or August 9 to November ?? - AOT second cour (not sure how many episodes, but it would have to be somewhere around 16-18)

now its intresting because live chart.me had stated it as fall 2020 where as mal staed it winter 2021 ,great damn mal its coming in 2020 get those screws in your brain tighten another amazing thing about this situation is that kings avatar is set to release in summer 2020 (according to mal) even though it has released just a week before fall 2020 that is 25 th sept and the huge chunk of it ,obviously will air in fall 2020 but then also mal do not apply the same rule on aot ,why. aot is clearly releasing in 2020 not 2021 so.......ummm this fall or winter thing doesnt matter much but do the right thing.idiot

Lol calm down a little. If you look again, livechart also has AOT S4 listed as a Winter 2021 anime. In addition, every other site has AOT S4 listed as a Winter 2021 anime. Also if you look at the Winter 2021 lineup, there are a few shows that are starting before December 21st, but are still listed under Winter 2021, so it does not just apply to AOT. My point here is that this is not a mistake, and AOT S4 is actually classified as a Winter 2021 anime.

I was going to post this until I saw this was already posted....

It 100% starts in fall 2020, just airs mostly after that. Winter does not start until the end of December. Mods should correct this as listing it as Winter 2021 is inherently incorrect
