Hey randomly happend to look your profile and saw you read 95 chapters of Goodnight Punpun and even gave it an 8 but still dropped it. Ive heard really good things about this manga so what happend
Yes. It's never a good idea to write such a massive reply with links. It's like saying: "You are stupid. You are incapable of analysisng. Here, let me help. These links and essays will be a revelation." No. He is one of the annoying types, like those people who forcefully try to make your convert religion. "You just didn't see the transformation. It was very subtle, very imperceptible..." I hope you can see why this type of response would be annoying to read. A lot of the manga fans use this line, and basically treat you like someone who can't use their own brain. Unlike many fans who just jump on reddit posts, I like to form my own opinions. Thanks. It's nice to see a fan who doesn't try to shove flimsy proof down my throat. Have a good day.
Also, that person in the forum gave 10/10 for every AoT-related thing. This is possible, but it beggars belief. Even ardent fans score the OVAs differently (as can be seen from the difference in average OVA scores on MAL). It's very difficult to talk to people like him (not you), who are clearly hardcore (he was the type of person who would just give 2/3 points extra based on audio-visuals, which is fine, but shallow nonetheless). He then attacked me, saying that I gave Gintama 10/10 twice. There is a difference between 2 x 10/10 and like 7 x 10/10, which includes OVAs that are not as good. And Gintama is a comedy. Naturally, a comedy is more hit-and-miss (the genre will have a lot of variation). If you look at his language, he uses a lot of hyperbole: "all your points...." .... "you didn't pay attention to a thing". This didn't help him one bit. He also claimed to present "objective facts" (there is no such thing as a subjective fact). It didn't help his case one bit that he casually dismissed most of my points. He was more focused on my rant. And he didn't need to send a massive essay with multiple hyperlinks and citations... (his first reply). Clearly he was upset (it's funny how some fans come with these massive essays, with citations, etc.). It makes me wonder if they put this much effort in their school assignments. Hope this helps :)
Thanks for this thoughtful response. I never said that someone who gives AoT 10/10 is an idiot. I understand that this is a subjective score. What I don't like is fanboys/fangirls thinking that there are no flaws. Even I am willing to accept flaws in my favourite anime. I will never, however, defend my favourite anime like overzealous die-hard fans. It's unhealthy to be that obsessed. I gave AoT 7/10, which is a respectable score. I find it irritating how manga readers come in their dozens to defend their obsession. A 7 is hardly trash. I merely pointed out an aspect that is laughable. I even gave reasons why certain aspects were not realistic or plausible. What often happens is that manga fans give me youtube links or reddit essay links (full of confirmation bias), which still do not address the offending points (at least not to a satisfactory level). It's a cheap excuse when many manga fans say, "Wait till season 4..." I hope you can see why this mentality is silly. If you fail to address certain things early on, there's no waiting... Die-hard fanbases also inflate scores massively. This makes some people give lower scores out of spite. I don't do this. However, inflating scores without much analysis is bad for the anime industry. As producers will pump out similar things. Also, I was talking about the anime, not about the manga (but many fans seem to miss this point... even though I clearly stated that I'm talking about the anime).
Felt like 0 was a bit unrealistic(in terms of their world) but nonetheless explained everything in the first one which made the whole series more enjoyable.
