Haikyuu it is. The ending of the first season when they lost against Aoba Johsai and all sat at the table together, crying and eating their meal in silence.

I cry a lot so I'm never really surprised if something brings me to tears. I can only really think of one instance where I was surprised or didn't expect it and that's Kaguya-sama: Love is War. That episode in s2 where they disbanded the student council with all the flashbacks made me really emotional for some reason.

It's a comedy so I guess I was surprised that I was it was emotional enough to make me cry.

The ending of Vinland Saga Season 1
The scene didn’t get me in the manga but for some reason the anime did, though i think that’s because i knew what would happen later in the series, and thus having a bigger impact

There was one amazing episode in Haikyuu! (I think in S1), where they dedicated the episode to the "nameless" teams that lost.

I was not expecting the show to be that real lol

Mushishi. I don't remember which specific episode, but it was about a girl and a string from the sky. And for more recent, I actually cried a bit while watching Aikatsu. Actually, tho, I rarely cry in any anime in term of sadness, especially when it's around a character's death. I usually cry when the scene's just too powerful or warm.

Err.. DANSHI KOUKOUSEI NO NICHIJOU!! The graduation and the words about that even though they are separated, they're still together.. how can an anime that supposed to made me laugh made my cry in the end instead.

i cried like 4 separate times in jojo part 5.

also gakkou gurashi. in general i wasnt expecting it to become one of my favourite animes of all time but nothing could of prepared me for the fucking dog dying. i cried in my mums arms and she was like what the fuck.

and fucking GINTAMA. same as above, was not expecting gintama to suck in every emotion out of me but here we are. so far every time ed 14 comes on screen i try not to cry like the fucking scene with kagura in the end and the smile and the song like i almost cried watching it in public two days ago. and i aint even gotten to the worst scenes yet.

I watched Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions! expecting a lighthearted, cute, fun anime about kids who think they have super powers. Wasn’t expecting the tears at the end of the first season. That anime really bested my expectations and I’m happy I finally decided to watch it after it had been lurking in my to watch list for ages.

Monogatari series (second season) when
That hit me in the feels when it had no right to do so. I was under the assumption that Monogatari was just this niche, over the top, dumb anime. So when that scene happened it came out of nowhere and really got me emotional.

Also Hibike Euphonium because I thought it was going to be just a simple slice of life coming of age story.

Hmmm, that we didn't expect... What comes to my mind would be Ojamajo Doremi, 22/7 and Bunny Senpai.
Probably some more but these are what I can recall in a second.
The biggest of all that I did not expect: 3-gatsu no Lion.

I think there's too many to list, since I'm a very emotional person and I can cry just because a character I like is sad. But there are a few types of anime that I never expect to make me cry, and then I end up crying while watching them.

Shounen/action shows - I guess I should know it by now, but I'm still surprised when an action-oriented anime makes me cry. I never expect them to, since I'm mainly expecting battles and such. Things like Jojo, Hunter x Hunter, Shingeki no Kyojin or Dr. Stone - I never expected them to be this emotional for me (especially Jojo, since all I knew about it was the memes).

Comedy and slice of life - although I probably should expect that sol can be really emotional, there are still some anime like UchiTama, Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san or Nekopara that have this one episode that surprises me with tears. Also comedies (or anime that I expect to be comedies) like Zombieland Saga, Chuubyou Gekihatsu Boy or Sarazanmai that suddenly have feelings in them.

Reverse harem or anime that I expect to be trashy or shallow - the type of shows that I watch only because the poster is pretty or a voice actor I like is in them. I usually don't have high expectations for them, but still some of them surprise me with quality and feelings. Stand my Heroes is one of them - I watched because of pretty guys on the poster, and then I cried like a bitch on the last episode (cried again when I rewatched it). There are also Namu Amida Butsu!: Rendai Utena and number24 (the latter one was especially emotional for me).

And a special mention for anime that look cute and innocent, but end up being pretty dark - you know exactly what I'm talking about. I never expected to cry on something like Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica or Made in Abyss.
ChroNoiR Episode.0 is the best anime to ever exist

Didn't cry but that made me surprisly sad. https://myanimelist.net/anime/14741/Chuunibyou_demo_Koi_ga_Shitai I think that's gonna be just a simple relatively funny slice of life, but damn, the episode when Yuuta made Dekomori cry by say her world is purely false. That was too close to home, I wasn't prepared for this.

It's why I give it a 7, otherwise the show was kinda average

I hated Assassination Classroom when I first started watching it, it was so generic and annoying through the first couple episodes.

However, the more episodes I watched the more I started to get attached and relate to the characters. For context, this was in my final year of school so the show sort of hit home in some absurd way.

Long story short, by the end of the last two episodes I was sobbing like a baby, when I think about it now it was really irrational since I don't even think it was that sad. But out of every anime I have ever seen (Your Lie in April and Angel Beats included) this made me cry the most.

I sobbed like a baby by the end of that anime too! I didn't expect it to make me cry that much. It's such a great end though!
