Same here. My heart ached every time he cried ;-;

And I cried a little with Zombieland Saga, on the Lily episode.

It's not just you, but first episode was actually rather melodramatic and heartbreaking. Also unlike Angel Beats or Ano Hana, the atmosphere was dark and intense.

Demon Slayer, Fruit basket 2019 and beaststars has some good emotional moments but the last time I truly cried was years ago, either clannad after story, anohana or assassination classroom finale.

it might seem silly but Death Note. I cried when *a certain character* died about 2/3rds of the way through. I was really attached to them and their successor really wasn't as good.

Last anime I cried like a baby was diamond no ace. I‘m weak when it comes to sports anime anyway and I cried when watching haikyuu and KnB too but DnA fucked me up emotionale on a new level. But the anime is well made and i can feel the emotions of the characters as if I was them.
I don’t really know why, i‘ve watched stuff that’s far sadder. Someone dies - no problem. Hearts get broken or people break up - i‘m cool. But my favorite sport characters train hard and then lose a match or suffer from something else and i have a mental break down.

It was either Fruit Basket or Maquia. Now those really got me tearing up. Especially Maquia. I will never watch that on a Mother's Day, 'cause it would completely break me.

I don't know if there was anything else recently, but if there was, it was most likely good. I know March Comes in Like a Lion usually breaks me.
"You know you've reached peak quality when a doujin is better than the actual source series." (Eg. To LOVE-Ru)

Just to list a couple of biases.
Likes: A good story, characters, writing, romance, a good plot twist or something that breaks expectations (In a good way), 'backstory' and justice.
Dislikes: Bad romance, too much fanservice, the harem genre, yuri, yaoi, and bad writing.

If I'm talking about manga, I just finished Pandora Hearts and it made me cry rivers.

Last episode of Guilty Crown, not because of what happened but because of the soundtrack...well maybe a little of the plot. Goddamn Departures is one of the best EDs in all of anime and that song fits perfectly at the end. Song is too beautiful.

I think the last time I cried was when watching hajime no ippo in the scene where ippo gets admission into the gym and he starts crying tears of happiness. That scene was very emotional for me.

Most recent example of me tearing up was Kimi to Nami ni Noretara, which was yesterday btw. I didn't think it'd take that approach but I was still fine, then
had me choked up.

Last real cry was Diamond no Ace Act II's last episode. It wasn't because it's the last episode or something, I cried because of Hachiya Oji. Kawabata barely appears for 3 episodes at most but he'll be going in my favorites.

I don't usually cry that much when I'm watching stuff but I just finished both demon slayer and death note and a lot of those scenes are really heavy, so I cried a couple times during each of those. It's tough because in death note and specifically the demon slayer manga they have no problem killing off main characters, which makes me sad because I get really attached to my favorites.

After this thread be forgotten, that is, tomorrow, i want to repeat the question, but about recent animes released in 2019 and 2020.

Otherwise there are too many replies about classic "onion cutting ninjas" animes.

Btw, i have a "cry list":

Completed (and approved, but with cry score 1 to 10)
Anohana (5)
Clannad After Story (10)
Plastic Memories (6)
I want to eat your pancreas (7)
Ef a tale of memories (4)
Kanon (3)
Puella Magi Madoka Magica? (5)
Angel Beats (4)
Violet Evergarden (7)
3-gatsu no lion (5)

Of course, this happens in one or another episode, if it is a series.

Plan to watch:

Your Lie in April
Assassination Classrom
One Week Friends
Now and Then, Here and Now
Air
True Tears
Asatte no Houkou.
Cross Game
Death Parade
ReLIFE
Bunny Girl Senpai
Banana Fish

Most recent anime that made me cry was probably 3-gatsu no Lion 2. Just watching Hina cry and get bullied broke my heart because I liked Hina and one of the things I hate the most is bullying. And the combination of the two was not a good mix for my emotions and heart
