I just finished the first two seasons of Tokyo Ghoul and absolutely loved them. But when I watched the first episode of re, I had no idea what was going on and if Kaneki is that Quinx guy then is the entire season as bad as it seems?

tokyo ghoul re is pretty much the most butchered anime adaption ever

you're 100% better off reading the manga altho you might not understand some things since they skipped out a ton of stuff in the first 2 seasons of tokyo ghoul as well

It only gets worse, even into the next season of :re it genuinely will surprise you how bad it continues to be.

Whether or not it's worth it for you to watch is not something another person can decide, but that's my 2 cents. I finished all of it.

I always recommend that you read the TG manga instead of watching the Anime. The only decent season of the Anime is S1.

The openings are Solid tho.

Since you only have watched the anime you might enjoy the next two seasons, but the manga is a lot better.

No or rather the first season was ok but second one was a total disaster. Best way to experience the Tokyo Ghoul franchise is to read the manga from the very beginning. The first season skipped stuff and Root A changed events of the story which are contradictory to Tokyo Ghoul: Re.

The tokyo ghoul anime was never good to begin with, just read the manga but if you're asking my opinion about tokyo ghoul re manga then no, it's not that good especially compared to first tokyo ghoul manga.

Really the main problem with :re is that it lacks any of the impact that the first two seasons had. Sure they had flaws and came up short on the source, but they had incredibly atmospheric & iconic scenes that made Tokyo Ghoul come to life even on its own. With :re, I didn't get that feeling at all. The overall execution was just...mediocre. I couldn't even dislike it - I simply felt indifferent & uninterested.

it's not really a majorly butchered adaptation per se, more like a butchered anime as a whole

OT: Since the original TG adaptations excluded a lot from the manga, and rootA basically changed entire parts of it, it's probably why :re doesn't make any sense. Plus the fact that the animation is garbage level and the pacing was all over the place

In fairness though, :re manga is also kinda all over the place, overall much worse than the original TG

You have to read the manga before watching :re, it was never fully adapted with season 2 beeing totally out of the place.

If you loved the first two seasons, I'm sure you will like re as well.

That said, the Tokyo Ghoul manga is actually quite good. Way better than the anime.
And I'm damn picky with the manga I buy...

I read the manga and it's awesome, anime just doesn't do it justice.
You can watch it if you like though it's not bad just not the best adaptation of the source material.

Absolutely not, it's atrocious. I know I sound like a broken record, but just read the manga.
If you want to know why, the anime is trying to adapt about 10 chapters per 23 min episode, which is just a recipe, for a disaster.

I only liked it, but I loved the ending two or three episodes of "Tokyo Ghoul re" and it's 2nd season. The quality of the anime rises, which compensates for the occasional annoying moments.

Lastly this is a little spoiler so you know

RE is more of same edgy bloody action show so I don't see why not. If you keep watching it all will be revealed.

For me Tokyo Ghoul is a mixed bag, the first season mostly bored me and was barely watchable, the 2nd was alright and I actually kinda like Tokyo Ghoul:RE which seems to be the unpopular opinion but whatever.

Maybe avoid it if you are looking for clear answers or if you don't want a rushed job.

The manga fills in the details, but on a whole the anime follows the main story closely upto its conclusion.

It was lackluster, is all I can say, seeing how it turned out by the end (speaking for both the manga/anime). Could've been better.

it's weird how they seemed to have enough resources for like 3 or 4 seasons but couldn't even follow the source properly. I'll read the manga someday

I know it sounds so generic these days, but in the case of Tokyo Ghoul (:re in particular), you're truly better off reading the manga. I firmly believe someone with a grudge against Ishida wanted to ruin the show as much as possible. It's the only explanation.

Don't watch it. The animation is awful, and the plot is literally a mess. New characters appearing and dying instantly, stuff like that. It was way too rushed, they probably had no budget to make a decent anime. Read the Manga though, it won't disappoint you.
