I am planning to watch Code Geass.
Could it be enough to watch movie version instead?

I highly recommend watching the TV series than the movie, since it's way better.

If you talk about the new movies no, beacuse it's a alternaive verison of the main serie.
The new movies is what coud have happend.

So if I was you, watch main serie, then Code Geass: Boukoku no Akito and to last you watch the alternive verison movies that is coming out now

+ it's recap so alot of the main story will not be in those new movies.

Aren't the new movies a rewrite of the main series so that the new movie won't have as many plot holes?

I guess so. How about the visual differences, since its released time span 10 years?

Watch the TV series for Code Geass, dunno about the movies, but from what I've heard they are not as good as the main series.

I don't remember much about the visuals, but it isn't bad at all rather it's good.

Never watched the movies but I doubt they have made big improvements.
Also your idea is kind of wrong...older animation doesn't necessary mean worst or subpar. For example some visually better mecha shows from the same studio came roughly about the same period - Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (2007) and Gundam Unicorn (2010). The only their recent shows with similar quality of animation is Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt (2015).

Yes, the technologies are improving (the biggest leap was 2000-2005) but lately the sales are declining and the studios are investing less money, the animation staff is overworked ect.
So most of the shows start to look more abstract and minimalist and 3D CGI shows have less detail - Hight Score Girls and Kemono Friends.
Yes, there are some amazingly looking shows but they are fewer with each year.

No it wouldnt be enough,I mean 50 eps in a movie, that's crazy. But if you start to get bored of the show then watching the movie maybe the choice for you.You can still say that you have watched Code Geass while barely know anything about it ^^

I would recommend some movies but the series has just s many details over that is not worth it

overlord movies for example are really good at summaryzing the 1st season, but I felt they lacked details a bit

Don't watch code geass at all. It's a terrible anime.

Is that what you say, but yes... I should give a try. And thank you.

No?
But if you liked Macross Delta this should be a better experience to you.

And talking about Macross I would recommend Macross Zero and Macross F.

well they release new edited movie versions of it so that it can transition well with the upcoming movie sequel of Code Geass

so if you have no time to spare watching the TV series then just watch the new movie trilogy

Would rather suggest you go with the TV series for Code Geass. The movies of Code Geass are more suited for those who have already watched the series before . More specifically for people who wanted to catch-up to the latest events before the new sequel series/movie gets release.

A consolidated retelling of the events in other words.

Basically to understand the story of the new movie(sequel) you need to watch S1/s2 + all 3 recaps...

They changed a few things in those recaps..

And tbh if you watch the movie only, will be quite bad since you won't understand literally nothing..

The first movie is better than the first 16 episodes of R1 mainly for adding good content and taking away some
of the weaker material

The second movie is worse than the rest of R1 and the first 16 episodes of R2 for butchering inferior material, despite adding good new content

I've yet to see movie 3 but I know it adapts the last 9 or so episodes.

Honestly, I feel like you should watch the first movie, and if you like what you see, watch the show from either the beginning or from where the first movie ended before deciding if you wanna return to the movies. An equally valid option is to start the series first and then save the movies for later.

If movie 2 was a better rewrite (or if this series got 4 movies instead of 3 since it desperately needed 4), I'd have just said to go for the movies and then the TV show if need be. SO yea

The TV series is much better. Start with the series or the movie, but if you like it I recommend you watch the TV series first/instead

Not just not. The series was completely better. The film cut several important scenes so that this new film (Fukkatsu no Lelouch) worked better. Not worth changing the incredible experience that is is watching the series, for a few hours which are considerably worse.
